MyUS Heads up on Issues

Just a heads up for everyone after my first (and last!) experience with MyUS

  1. I used a referral code. I did not get the discount with MyUS. They said that the referral discount doesn't apply to the Budget Economy shipping method!

  2. It takes them a while to process your package after it arrives in their facility. My parcel hadn't been logged in their system by 2 days after the tracking said they had it. I queried this and they said "our login process usually takes 1-5 business days after arrival, excluding weekends"!!

  3. On the free 'single package' plan, they take the money out of your payment method and send the package with no correspondence with you whatsoever. This is stated up front but it does mean that if there are any issues it is very hard to get money back, compared to other freight forwarders I have used where you confirm everything before any money is paid.

  4. They have the option of paying them the GST for Australia. I opted out of this in my preferences but they charged it anyway!!! When I queried them about this they said that with the Budget Economy and Budget Express shipping options they will automatically take the GST out (As far as I can see this isn't mentioned on their website).

  5. The GST that they charged wasn't on the actual value of my goods but on a value they made up which was greater that the actual value of the goods!! They said I needed to upload an invoice with the actual value before shipping if I wanted the correct value to be used. Given that they ship out immediately without corresponding with you (on the 'free single package' plan) this is obviously not possible. I asked to upload an invoice so they could correct the GST and refund me the amount overpaid, which they were perfectly happy to do as long as I paid a $20 processing fee!!!!! Of course $20 was more than the GST overpaid so not worth it.

  6. They charge a fee called a 'government / carrier fee' which I had seen no mention of on their website. They were unable to provide me with a link to anywhere on their website that said this would be charged.

You may have a better experience using one of their 'paid' plans, but I'd avoid the free one.

    They've been dodgy ever since they changed owners 10+ years ago. I believe they've changed owners several times since then as well. They were really good many years ago but I stopped using them when I received someone else's items instead of my own and they didn't want to hear about it.

    • Similar case for us. We used them to bring in items for our business but they slowly went downhill with their service. Also, they would use every angle to screw more money out of you. Don't mention our experience with and insurance claim- total nightmare.
      Have a new forwarder now and very happy with their service.

    Yeah I had a 2 year free plan but they tried to start charging me after 6 months. Was handy to bring in some headphones though.

  • That's really bad. Unfortunately all of the higher rated ones like Stackry etc are absurdly expensive.
