They look identical to ones being sold on Amazon. You can buy wifi or ZigBee compatible from Ali.

You could be right about electrical certification. I'm happy so far. People mention that the tapo ones have a high failure rate. The Ali ones could too but $4 doesn't bother as much.

        • Have had Tapo everywhere in my home for years. 20+ plugs, switches and cameras/sensors etc. Never had anything fail

      • Exactly my thought, you don’t want to risk burning your home down and denied insurance for the sake of saving $7.

I love AliExpress but I wouldn’t buy electrical devices from there. We all remember what happened to cheap mobile chargers a few years ago

    • There are many comments saying that tuya is generally unreliable

    • You can buy smart tuya power plugs from Ali for $4 each. Link tuya app with google home (or just use it in the tuya app).

I found and bought what looks like it fits your description on Aliexpress. It arrived yesterday and used it today. Surprisingly, it has energy monitoring. I'm using it with the Smartlife app as my garage door openers use it. Not bad for $5.

  • I wish the TP110M was also on sale. I am trying to use one as a remote switch for an EV dumb charger.

    • What amp your EV use for charging? These are only 10amp I think so I won’t be using anything that exceeds that.

You could consider upgrading your circuit with Tuya compatible circuit for that use but if you are after energy monitoring Tuya circuit might not do the job.

      • The car was set to take 8 amp only. I have an existing dumb GPO so if I can smart it up then I won't need any wiring work.

    • +1

Sounds good but wouldn't you just set your car to charge at a certain time instead?

      8c a kw so good :)

      • Yeah I need to see if my car can do that - haven't really played with the settings yet. Thank you for the advice.

  • Won't ship to any address I choose in regional Victoria or Melbourne (trying to buy 3 of them).

There’s some speculation that the matter version (which is not this deal) is a hardware revision with a lower failure rate.
I’ve had around 50% of mine fail. Amazing that they haven’t been recalled etc and just shows the disdain that TP link have for their customers.

For a while I had one connected to a fridge (for energy monitoring) but after waking up to the failure rate of these I removed it. No point in loosing a fridge freezer worth of food over it.

    • There’s some speculation that the matter version (which is not this deal) is a hardware revision with a lower failure rate

I heard that as well, but then somebody supposedly did a full hardware disassembly/breakdown and found that the critical components inside (that fail) are still the same as the non-Matter version, so…

      • @deadpoet do you have a source for that? I'd be curious to read/watch.

        • Unfortunately no source, if I remember right I read it in a Reddit comment, and they didn't have a source or link for it either. A lot of this is hear-say, but it sounds about right to me.

I'm extremely skeptical that the P110M won't fail the same way as all the other Tapo and Kasa smart plugs. The Matter version of these plugs is new enough that we probably won't have solid failure rate data for another 2 years or so.

    • Yes TP110M is the better version and less prone to failure

    • Same, mine are about 3-4 years old and 2 of the 4 I had have failed with the relay constantly cycling in both cases. Mine is the KP115 though.

  • Compatible with home assistant/ zigbee?

    • Should just work with the tp link integration

    • +1

Yep. It's one of the main reasons I still use these TP-Link plugs. HA integration is flawless.

Also, these are Wi-Fi only (2.4GHz, no 5GHz) plugs, not Zigbee.

  • Bunnings used to have Click remote controlled mains outlet adapters that were a great compromise to the "smart" adapters. I can't seem to find them on the website, but very similar to these here. Been using for about 5 years now, never fails. Quick click of the remote and easy on/off. Perfect for Christmas lights or like others have said, audio equipment.

    • I've got a couple of sets of them too. They have been under the Arlec brand for me.
      https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-remote-controlled-power-ou…

(No, I didn't pay anywhere near this much for mine.)

      • Yep these are all Tuya-based smart plugs. Unfortunately my Arlec GridConnect plug failed on me after 2 years with the dreaded continuous click of death, so it's not any better than the TP-Link smart plugs (for me at least).

        • Agree all these things are dodgy lottery when they die. I've bought all the brands by now i reckon and they all die the same way sooner or later.

  • How much is standby consumption power on these? I'm worried when it comes to volume.

    • +1

Very little. Maybe a watt from memory.

      • 1.4W (based on @deadpoet) is considered little for an old light bulb tho for new 5W-10W bulbs it becomes 15%-30% extra. 10 of these will be ~15W not that bad.

    • +1

My old KP105 Kasa smart plug consumed 0.65W when "off", and 1.40W when "on" (but with no appliance plugged in) — measured with the Power-Mate Lite. I haven't done any readings for the newer P110/P110M, but it's probably fairly similar power consumption.

If you use a lot of smart plugs it does add up to a fair bit overall.

  • JB didn't price match as it is in backorder status.

Also, I usually use these for oil heaters. Unfortunately, they have failed in functioning correclty. I have seen that they turn on by themseleves!

  • Available again for $11 on backorder.

  • I believe these require TP-Link cloud and app, I wouldn't recommend based on that. Unless you aren't using Home Assistant and actually need that stuff.

  • Thanks OP bought two, my printer keeps going offline after every few days and require manual restart. I have now put this plug on the printer so I can get Alexa to turn on the printer when needed. Works a treat!

Any ideas of its internals? ESP32 + relay?

  • Mine arrived dead on arrival. Led doesn’t light up. Holding down button to reset it did nothing. Just for info.
