Which credit card offer looks like it might offer the best value.

Ideally just want to capitalise on bonus bonus/introductory Qantas points as we're booking a holiday soon so could hit the minimum spend pretty comofrtably and would benefit from the insurance provided.

Commbank Ultimate Awards credit card

Which credit card offer looks like it might offer the best value.

I like my free Amex and free CBA Mastercard. Both have good rewards programs.

Good list! They all have pros and cons depending on your situation.
    - NAB is best overall - good bonus; good earning rate; great insurance for both overseas and domestic car rentals, up to 10k excess covered.
    - Commbank is good for overseas spend, no overseas transaction fees; free if you spend above 4k monthly, which may not be that simple over the entire year - be ready to pay the monthly fee; however poor rental car insurance - only domestic covered and only small excess included (2.5k from memory).
    - St George no idea.

If you can comfortably meet the minimum spending requirements on two cards, consider applying for two cards simultaneously. Since credit histories are updated infrequently, you have a good chance of getting approved for both before your credit report reflects the new accounts.

    • only domestic covered

      rubbish, it's all travel.

        This is correct.

      • I could be wrong, no doubts. The PDS has a table for Overseas Travel Policy Benefits, which clearly states Rental Vehicle Insurance excess coverage (up to $2,250 BTW) but there is no word about domestic cover. How do you know if domestic is covered?

        • Just noticed I typed originally "only domestic" covered while it's the other way around "only overseas covered, not domestic". My bad.

Think there's also a $75 annual fee on St George cards for enrolment in QFfF.

  • We have the ANZ QFF Black card…annual fee is $370 + $55 rewards fee, so $425. Have made a couple of travel insurance claims in the last couple of years, just due to delayed luggage and they have paid out no problem. Also was charged the annual fee a couple of weeks ago and I called them up and they reversed the $370 part of the fee for me. We have had the card for maybe 10 years or more though. Sometimes they reverse the fee, sometimes they don't. I would say 1 in 3 years they reverse it. Also give 2 Qantas lounge passes each year.

    • ANZ CC application process is a nightmare though (own experience, few times)

      • yep. but last time I was probably lucky and got it in a couple of days instead of the previous cards taking 2-3 weeks every time..

  • The CommBank is more realistically 0.8 points/$ on most things (groceries, petrol, dining) and 0.4 on other 'eligible' things.

  • Thinking St George may be the best best to just hit the minimum spend, get the points and use it for the insurance then cancel it after the trip. NAB wouldnt move on the annual fee when i called them
