    It's a pass from me.

Without a stronger lineup they'll be cutting the price pretty quickly imo.

  • I'm seeing people talk about the actual games being keys and not cartridges. What exactly does this mean? I saw a comment somewhere saying games will be required to call back to a server to confirm ownership? Are the games physically on the cart or are they moving to digital download for physical with just some anti piracy device in the box?

    • This depends on the developer. Some game carts will have the full game, other large games may require a download where the cart acts as more of a key.

The way I see it, this is better than a code in a box that is tied to your Nintendo account, as you can still re-sell the cart/key.

      • I'd be intrigued to see if the key is a one time locked to device though. Could be a way of them stopping people from selling on again

        • Pretty sure this won’t be the case, as there are already Switch games like this.

        • +1

If that was the intent they could have stuck with the paper codes, which would be cheaper to manufacture.

  • Will be interesting to see if switch 2 price changes in the US. Unless Nintendo had heads up on the tariff rates then the Switch 2 is likely to need to be repriced to over $500 USD for US gamers.

    • The pre-orders has officially been delayed indefinitely in the US due to the tariffs.

      • Not sure if pre-orders has been delayed indefinitely, as they are keeping the release date on the 5th June as big sellers have advertised on their sites.

Yeah, more to the point that SW2 prices will not come down anytime soon. I’ve read on the Whirlpool forums that EB Games started to sold out on the SW2 pre-orders, I just checked and the base unit (no bundle) is in fact sold out.

        • Could just as easily be a tactic to encourage people to ore order. I wouldn't put it past Nintendo or eb to artificially create demand. I can't believe that there is that much demand for the switch 2. Unless scalpers are just trying to buy up all stock. I mean eb is the safest pre order option since it's only $50 and you can cancel. That could be the reason. People hedging their bets. Keep pre order if it does sell out or cancel if it was an impulse buy.

Not the case anywhere else to my knowledge. I doubt people are willing to slap down a full pre order price when it's uncertain if they will even sell out.

          • -1

@hazzad: yup, given the price and lack of initial game line up I think if it is scalpers they are going to get burnt.

            • -1

@gromit: Burnt how? They just cancel and get a refund of $50 or full price even from JB, nobodies getting burnt, they have 2 months to cancel.

Also, it's hilarious you come up with every scenario other than people just wanting a Switch2, which is almost certainly by far the most common reason to place an order.

              • +1

@eagerfisherman: Agree with you. I am one of those wanting the SW2.

              • @eagerfisherman: WTF are you on about. how do they get a refund after they collect the Switch and try to sell it at an inflated price? I want a switch 2 as well, but will probably wait till their are games. The price and game line up though is being pretty much universally panned across the globe.

              • +1

@eagerfisherman: If history has shown us anything, the most likely reason for a lot of people to pre order is to hedge their bets on the scalping market. The vast majority of PS5 units got scalped. Im sure many scalpers are hoping the same for the switch 2. Ordering via EB games is a smart bet cause you cancel the order if they dont sell out and and be no worse off. Pre ordering elsewhere leaves you with a unit you still have to move on if they dont sell out. No one can deny that the market is rife with opportunists hoping they can make a quick buck should they sell out stock is slow to come back in.

        • more to the point that SW2 prices will not come down anytime soon

Switch 1 never did in a meaningful way official. OLED rrp is still over $500. There was the odd promo here and there, some of which were Amazing like Prime day or eBay sales, but the RRP has always remained high.

So yeah, don’t bank on price drops. We’ve seen rising prices already from MS and Sony too.

  • I have a pre-order with the game and one without because I thought it didn't go through. Why is it so hard to cancel pre-orders online? You have to physically go to the store for EBGames? Big W does not have any emails to send to cancel you have to call or wait for online chat during weekdays 9 to 5 only? wtf.

Only a fool would buy the Switch replay edition.

    • Literally all my friends and I are buying them. That's the entire appeal for us.

  • -1

I will not buy another Switch to play old games.

Every game console takes time to build a library…

      • -1

Then there is no reason to buy the Switch 2 at launch.

        • +1

Mario Kart is enough reason for most people

You don't have to buy it at launch though

    Yuzu

    • -1

I'm actually interested in seeing how Switch 1 compatibility was implemented as i read this morning that it isnt strictly hardware compatibility but a mix of software and hardware. I'm keen to know if anything from Yuzu was actually used to create their emulator since they sued their pants off and im pretty sure they had to hand over all the source code.

    • Considering you can pre order the switch 2 pretty much everywhere who exactly would be lining up to pre order from Nintendo directly? I may buy one but won't bother until black Friday to see if they do any deals. I just can't see this selling out in any way before launch. The only outlets that will sell out will be those with a pre order with zero or minimal deposit with cancellation option for those who want to hedge their bets.

Switch 2 Enhanced Packs will be A$20/$30

Still a great video (and advice) after all these years:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rIJmGj4g-s

  • I don’t have any gaming consoles and I’m thinking of getting the NS2 console and Mario bundle. Due to promo vouchers I can get it for $715 delivered from a reputable store. It’ll be delivered at the end of June. Is that a good deal?

    • Its a decent deal, harvey norman had a spend $500+, get 10% back in gift cards but that has expired, $715 is a decent price but the delivery date is a bit of a wait, other than that its ok

    • Why end of June? It comes out June 5th

Should be getting it on release?

  • How exactly are people getting 7% off and pre-ordering the bundle for $715 with Macquarie marketplace and EB games?

The marketplace max gift card is $500. And according to the EB games support site you cant stack multiple gift cards in one transaction online. Also with pre-order click & collect you also can't use gift cards

  • Aside from the Nintendo branded 256GB, does anyone know where we can buy microSD Express cards locally for a decent price?

    • +1

EB have their brand MicroSD Express cards up to 1tb

EB Games are doing midnight/breakfast launches in select stores around the country:
    https://www.ebgames.com.au/fast-pass

But, you can only attend if you're an EB World Plus Member or you trade in your Switch 1 console in advance. So scummy, they're pushing their bloody subscription thing so hard. I reckon I'm getting to the point where I'm going to stop supporting them as a company.

    • +1

I never get the whole midnight launch thing. Are people seriously grabbing their new console at midnight then go straight home to play them at the crack of dawn? I’d be lucky to even get around to pick up my order the following week.

      • Back then, yes.

        These days, no.

Almost anything these days can be pre-ordered.

Will pick up console after work.

    • In case anyone cares; an internal EB Memo leaked that tells employees to accommodate customers regardless of whether they meet the 'midnight launch' criteria:
      https://www.reddit.com/r/EBGAMES/comments/1kmfftc/you_dont_n…

So if you want it at midnight, just go.
