Recommendations for Good Locksmith, Electrician and Plumber in Sydney

In light of the rising cost of living, I’m thinking it might be a good idea to compile a list of reliable locksmiths, electricians, and plumbers—just in case.

From my own experience, finding a locksmith was quite a challenge—I sent out 10 emails and only got two responses!

If you’ve had good experiences with any tradespeople, could you share their names? It’d be great to have some trusted contacts for when we need them.

Cheers!

I think the standard OzB suggestion is to get 4 quotes and pick the 2nd highest :P

Sydney is a big place, not everyone services everywhere. Cost and skill is also dependent on the job so experiences will vary.

This is not practical, maybe for bigger jobs, defintely not for smaller jobs.

I've found a lot of busy tradies a bit unresponsive to emails. You're better off calling.

This is a terrible idea. Most of these services are 1-2 person operations. Imagine how many phone calls they'll receive when their details are posted here?

Just ask your neighbours/friends/family for recommendations, or use something like Airtasker to find your own. Not that hard

  • Just as a warning, if you are going to hire a locksmith, just make sure they are accredited and licensed with someone like MLAA and that they have their security license details mentioned somewhere.

Do NOT get on "Fartbook/Scumtree/Airtasker/Fiver/Google top recomendation/random places" and find one of these $49 locksmiths. They are NOT locksmiths and are often just overseas students hired by a dodgy company and will turn up, ruin your locks and then have all kinds of "hidden fees" to put it all back together again. Your $49 job will turn into a $900 in about 30 seconds.

    • This is a good advice. Thanks

Did you try ringing them insteal?

    • I havent cos I need to replace quite a few locks and I want to attach photos in the email.

  • In light of the rising cost of living,

Can you elaborate on what you mean by this and how it connects to "locksmiths, electricians, and plumbers"?
Are your toilet and electrical outlets more likely to need repair because of inflation? I don't get it.

    • What I mean is that we have a list of decent tradie instead of the $500 call-out fee and who-know-how-much-they-gonna-charge after a crappy job - in case we need it

  • Don't people just use Hipages or Oneflare?

  • None of this makes sense. Cheers

    • Why is that MSP?

      • Two words - common sense

    Silly idea:

    • You want tradies not to far from you, else they have to factor travel time.

    • By the time you need them, they could have died, retired, moved, etc.

    • If I knew I was on such list, I'd up my price by say 20%.
