Microsoft Cashback. Anyone Tried It?

so I started using Microsoft Edge because I heard it's basically Google Chrome and that's what I use to make sure I get cashback.

but recently I used Edge, and noticed a "price history check" popup from the address bar, I just closed it by clicking the X but apparently that's enough for it to take over?

my Cashback from CR got declined, and instead I got this "Welcome to" Microsoft Cashback email. I successfully got CR cashback with Edge before but this time it yanked it from CR.

so anyone used Microsoft cashback? do they pay out more? do they have bonuses sent to your email like CR?

  • That sounds anticompetitive tbh.

Have only just heard of Microsoft cashback. Looking into it now.

    • It seems to very opaque.

There's no where I can find to see what cashback rates or amounts they're offering without logging in or using Edge (which I don't have, yet). All the other cashback sites I can check without logging in.

I did find out they limit you to $1000 per year cashback.

        ok thanks for the info.

I have Edge, but I couldn't really figure out where it is in the browser (and also only just noticed that MS price track and cashback are the same thing). I looked around in browser settings to see if I could turn it off so I can use CR next time but I couldn't find anything. I got the email though so maybe I have to log in to microsoft using my email.

I can let you know if I find the % rates. it will just be one example though because they usually change all the time.

tbh I upgraded from Win10 to 11 so I got around having to create a MS account just to use Windows. so I really don't want to create and sign into Edge, which might auto sign me into Windows.

  • +1

I'm somewhat surprised you didn't post a deal 'Price history check free with Microsoft Edge'

      I get this reference

  • I believe I activated it once by accident without noticing, paid out no problem.

  • Have used multiple times before, just like other cashbacks as long as you follow the right steps such as no adblock and other t&cs as directed, it tracks. Paid out no issues.
I don't believe they have bonuses, but you can somewhat easily search for products with cashback by using Bing Shopping.

yeah still figuring out where to access it and how it's meant to work. all I know so far is you have to use Edge and click through Bing search it said in the email.

if no bonuses I think their rates should be better overall.

I'm not a big spender tbh but more than 50% of my CR total is from bonuses. early on only too they used to send you one almost once a week, now not so much.
I click through everytime don't bother checking rates but yeah 50% is a decent chunk from just bonuses.

  • This sounds like the Honey scandal where it would steal referal tokens at the last second.

    • yeah maybe my mistake was interacting with it. which might mean now it steals the referral every single time. couldn't find where to turn off "MS Edge Price check" or turn off "MS cashback" anywhere in the browser settings. it's probably named something different to make it harder to disable like "Copilot background process" or something like that.

I should have just ignored the popup and never clicked X to close it. 😭

      • Can you just use a different browser?

        • tbh I didn't want to install Chrome again because it takes up so much PC usage. I'm only running 8GB RAM and the rest is mostly very old hardware I just upgraded what I needed to get Win11.

I read Edge is basically Chrome so since that's already installed by Windows I thought it will be lower PC usage and just convenient. just finding out now how much it's connected to Windows behind the scenes which is a bit annoying. 🙁

either I need to just give up and install Chrome, give all the data mining usage to google. or I need to do some research how to disable everything in Edge to turn it into just a basic Chrome like browser.

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Use one browser just for cashback tracking. Use another for other personal stuff.
Other browser options are Brave (don't recommend to use for cashback, better for personal) and Firefox (what I use for cashback).

            • @tenpercent: made some progress. under profiles setting I was able to disable "auto sign in" e.g. if I sign into a MS account it won't auto sign me into Edge and Windows. still don't trust it though since my Win11 acc keeps turning yellow and bugging me to sign in every few days, I know they really want everyone on Win11 to sign into a MS account.

also under profiles was "Microsoft rewards" which I went into and turned off. I think that's what it's officially called (Cashback and Price check).

also buried in privacy and something else was a setting called "Improve your shopping experience and save money" or something like that, sounds like a second level to MS rewards taking over so I turned that off. I guess next time I will just have to Clear browser data then try CR again and see what happens.

  • Came here to ask exactly about this.

So, it seems I got a $6.50 cashback on some dog food. I have no idea, how I get paid out?

Does it take my PayPal account from the purchase?
    Does it pay instantly?

The information I can find seems very limited on how the process actually works.

    • still figuring it out slowly. haven't had time to get any further but pretty sure the entire MS Cashback/Pricecheck system is called Microsoft Rewards.

so maybe google search that and see if you can sign in/get some progress.
