DoorDash Charging Long Distance Fees!

I was about to place a Costco order through DoorDash today and noticed a new fee called “Long Distance Fees.”

I have DashPass, so delivery should be free for the amount I’m ordering—it even shows a $2.99 discount. But then it adds a $13.99 Long Distance Fee. The thing is, I’m only 2.4 km away from Costco by car, so I’m not sure why this fee is being applied. I’ve placed food orders from even farther away without seeing this charge.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Don't be lazy and just get it yourself. Too easy

    • Have you seen the checkout queues at Costco?

The length of the checkout queue is probably where the "long distance fee" comes from.

Don't give DoorDash or any of the others delivery services any ideas or next they'll be charging "Long checkout queue fee", "crowded carpark fee", "stairs fee @ $2.99 per stair". UberEats will waive the stairs fee if there is a lift their delivery driver can urinate in.

      • Costco the worse linez, they should have more checkouts

  • But then it adds a $13.99 Long Distance Fee. The thing is, I’m only 2.4 km away from Costco by car, so I’m not sure why this fee is being applied

Understand the LDF if the store was a good distance away, as the drivers are paid by distance, but yeah 2.4km isn't that far.

Guessing its just a way to 'hide' the real Costco delivery fee.

Or it is the weekend, so maybe the LDF is for the checkout queues!

  • Its most likely a bug, if you go on ur phone app and select the closest one location to you, you get the correct costco location.

Thanks mate, location was selected correctly. But I have cleared the cart and re-added everything and Long Distance Fee disappeared.

    Pride

    • Implicit in the tone: “I’ve placed food orders from even farther away without seeing this charge,” suggesting OP's past ordering savvy makes them an authority on what should or shouldn't happen.

    Greed

    • Upset over a $13.99 fee despite already getting a $2.99 discount with DashPass. The reaction implies a strong desire to get maximum value for minimum cost—a touch of greed in wanting the deal to be sweeter.

    Wrath

    • OP, while polite, carries an undertone of frustration and disbelief: “I’m not sure why this fee is being applied.” It hints at irritation aimed at DoorDash’s policy.

    Envy

    • Possibly envious of users who aren’t being charged the fee. The line “I’ve placed food orders from even farther away without seeing this charge” may also imply envy for a past, better experience.

    Lust

    • In this context, interpreted metaphorically as a strong craving—not for a person, but for Costco food. OP was about to place an order, suggesting an eager desire for that sweet, discounted delivery.

    Gluttony

    • Related again to the Costco order via DoorDash—this sin might be reflected in the frequent ordering of food, as OP note they’ve done this many times, possibly beyond necessity.

    Sloth

    • Rather than drive 2.4 km (a short distance), OP chose to order delivery—highlighting a preference for convenience over effort.

This is the very basis of ozbargain.

I'm 5.5km from Costco and I don't get charged long distance fee.
