Anti Low Latency doesn't seem like a great feature for gaming.

    • +5

In this case only the size matters

      • +1

I think above is mocking on the ad getting the full name of ALLM wrong. It should be "Auto" not "Anti".

"Anti" low latency would be a disaster in deed.

  • +2

People will see the size, and the price, and it’ll sell out

    • +13

For average use what's wrong with it? Thinking of something for the inlaws who don't game and aren't audio visual aficionado's

      • +12

I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with it, but people on here and whirlpool only want tv that is OLED with 16K tv with beautiful blacks and wonderful colours

        • +1

Yeah, and i want it for $600

      • +1

For the average user, it is completely fine. Relatives have bought one as a replacement to a 2017 LG OLED that died, and they're quite happy with it for watching movies and free-to-air sports. The impressive size more than makes up for the very average picture quality, brightness, and poor viewing angles to them.

        • +16

Haha, if they're happy with this after having an OLED, then they clearly never cared for PQ in the first place

          • +4

@Ryanmyo: Just because someone is legally blind doesn't mean they cannot enjoy television.

          • @Ryanmyo: Quality is wasted on some people. I couldn't recommend this TV when they asked me as I was expecting them to be disappointed with the pq. They also still have a LG OLED CX and an older Samsung high end full array, yet they prefer watching the larger screen 🤷‍♂️

          • @Ryanmyo: Its all about balancing price, picture quality and size. Most people who are stuck up with OLED probably never own TV bigger than 65". Now to get an OLED within this budget(<1.5K) you are looking to only get 55" comparing with this 86" TVs which is about 2.5x bigger screen area. There's something in the middle as well like looking for some good QLED or mini-LED, depending on someone's preferences on a TVs.

I have both 65" LG OLED C4 and 98" C745 QLED TV, the OLED have better picture quality especially on dark scenes but I'm way happier with larger screen size that makes everything looks more immersive.

  • +35

Go for 98" if you have the space. Given you'll probably only buy once every 5+ years you don't want to be stuck with a tiny 86" screen made for ants

    • What's the lowest price you've seen the 98" for?

      • +1

        Under $3k for TCL

    • +1

LG QNED89 98 inch is going for $4888 at Harveys and Jb Hifi but can't get myself to spend another $3400 for 12 inches more.
Although I am sure many many will disagree.

      • +3

That is not what she said.

    • +1

      That's the size of a tiny-suv

    • Wow! Every five years? People really do that?
Still got my 2010 Samsung 50 inch plasma and another one (same year) given by a friend (Panasonic). After trying a few TVs he is now regretting giving it away. I haven't seen a better (realistic) picture on all these new models they display in the shops.

      • +1

I miss plasmas. Got about 12 years from my pioneer. Pretty sure i just need a new powerboard for it, but parts arent easy

      • Maybe there's something about your-preference that drive you to your-conclusion?

        Do a side-by-side comparison, borrow a friend's OLED-TV & play a BluRay quality rip, say RE-mastered Gladiator 2000 @ 1080p & output as daisy-chain ?

        • Maybe. For watching movies I have a cinema room with a projector. If I'd buy a new TV it's only if one of the plasmas breaks (which I was expecting for the last few years :) ) and it probably would be Samsung Frame or something similar. I like the idea of displaying some family photos / art in the living room.

    • Whatever your preferences: size vs PQ…what is source that stir-up your desire to consume?

Then what did you do to satisfy your-desire ?

  • Also saw this instore today and it looked great.

In the market for a new TV, but QLED, DLED, OLED… Not sure really what's best, but this one (DLED) did look nice.

    • +4

True, it is getting very confusing and on top of it all the different series numbers..

    • +3

DLED isn't a positive marketing thing. It's backlit, so wont get good blacks, but they are usually somewhat localised so the whole screen might not be washed out on dark scenes.

QLED is samgsung adding a filter to led tech. Blacks show better (most important) and you get better colours as they interfere with each other less. Most brands have some kinda minor LED variation like this. QLED means nothing by itself and can come in edgelot, full array, zoned dimming - it's a layer of marketing on top of marketing.

OLED is a different technology, with no backlighting at all, making perfect blacks and better colours with pretty much no screen washing.

Soon you'll see common mini-LED tvs, which will be like DLED 2.0. Should be reasonably good image quality and much brighter than OLED, though image quality wont be there as it's still LCD. Should have good panel life though - I'm confident these will the new standard for cheaper tvs.

Eventually we'll see micro-LED affordable, which should replace OLED. They won't be constrained to the LCD issues of all other LED tech, and will function as a longer life, brighter, and possibly quicker response OLED. They'll be expensive for ages though, and likely only on large tvs.

Thank you for the explanation! This is super helpful :)

Not surprised that some of these things is just marketing speak to sound cool.

Very handy guide though, thanks again!

  • HDMI 2.0 only by the looks of it. But a lot of screen for the price.

    • That's all you need for 4k60.

      • Yeah but if they actually release a game for PS5 one day i might buy a PS5 and want.. something something hdmi2.4 something… Variable refresh rate.. hmm

        • +1

You missed eug's point. This TV only does 4k 60, you don't need anything higher than hdmi 2.0 for that regardless of your input.

  • +3

    Lucky Goldstar.

    • Shhh… that's an embarrassing look into their cringe past

      • I used to sell Goldstar.
@22 years ago LG started bring LG Notebooks into Australia. They were awesome. I purchased one. Great Unit

    • Life is Great

  • +1

Agree with the comment about 98” if you have the space and budget. Bought a 85 2 years ago, started to thinking about 100” in our next purchase. Btw, stay away from Samsung, our tv died twice literally in the last month in the warranty. Replacement wasn’t too hard to process though.

    • +1

      Isn't that perfect timing?

      • +4

        It's almost a recommendation

Be aware it's 50 Hz actual refresh rate (usually half the value they advertise as motion rate). If you're sensitive to flickering, then probably not the TV to get. With its massive size, I'd say it'll be pretty noticeable for sensitive people.

  • +1

    Based price

    • +1

I was gonna pass till I noticed how based the price is.
If you do a search for this price on ozbargain you'll notice there's a particularly based vendor on here.

  • +2

Is it worth paying $90 more for QLED?
Hisense 85" Q6NAU is $1,573 at appliancesonline with free delivery (I assume depending on postcode).

This is a better buy if you can afford to spend a little more: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-85-c745-pro-4k-uhd-ql…

    • +1

that one needs to be 200 cheaper, which it was recently :)

      • +2

Stock is scarce so the chances of that happening again is slim to none. Also, $200 is a small price to pay for significantly better picture quality.

    • +1

Thanks for the link, didn't realise this was on special again. I'm in the market for an 80+ inch TV for my just turned 80 years young mum but was recommended to go for the C755 over the C745. But those are currently $2695 for the equivalent size.

Can anyone advise if there's much of a difference (for the price) between those 2 given she doesn't really game and would just like a nice big screen to watch ABC iView on :)

      • +1

The C755 is Mini LED so you'll get deeper blacks. To be honest with you, she isn't going to notice a difference and will no doubt be very happy with this. Personally, I would buy this for 1k less without hesitation.

  • +1

My 75 inch TV uses 250 watts on default config. As I am retired I watch a load of TV a day. Likely 8-12 hours. I turn the brightness down and adjust other settings to get it closer to 100w. It all adds up.

    Here's a review (UT8000 = UT8050): https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/ut8000

Not bright enough for a well lit room and without even local dimming means crap in a dark room too.

TCL Mini LED has been on sale for just a few hundred more and would absolutely blow this away.

UT8050 is a mediocre TV for people who just want something big and don't care about picture quality.

    • That's closer-to-the-truth than some comments @ this-post, based on my eyes perception.

      But user-preferences varies widely.

Get 5 people looking @ the same daisy-chained 5-different-TVs outputting from the SAME-source, you're UN-likely to get 100% agreement, even with say
Transformers: The Last Knight 2017 @ 2160p, BluRay RIP PSA-encoder.

When the source is BluRay disc animation, eg Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2023, it's even-HARDER to tell the differences. Tested @ JB-Hifi store via daisy-chained TVs.

5-different-TVs: PREMIUM-branded, say Samsung, LG, Sony, TCL etc.

    • It's wild that they can't even do VA panels right either.
