Even Though Disney Getting a Lot of Hate, I Think They Redeemed Themselves with Tron Ares (2025) Trailer

https://youtu.be/9KVG_X_7Naw

wow. wasn't a fan of the original Tron movie. but this looks awesome.

cyberpunk blade runner simulation vibes. Jared Leto.
I have expressed some frustrage not being able to rent Alien Romulus for acceptable price. but tbh if this was out right now I would pay a month of disney+ just to watch it. (haven't subbed since the 3 month offer last year).

So make 20 bad movies, but 1 movie MIGHT be ok, so all is forgiven? Yeah nah

      So make 20 bad movies,

you are being too nice. I hear they ruined entire franchises. 😂

Romulus still not available to rent or watch on other services btw. 😒

      • So go to the pirate bay.

Yes I was, I lost count so just picked a number!

But I agree, Disney has ruined entire franchises in recent years. Fell for the age old issue of trying to fix something that wasn't broken as the 'new owner' wanted to put their spin on it and leave a legacy.

While I haven't been a big marvel fan myself, what they have done to that storyline is just a total mind duck!

  • Cool

  • Hollywood is all shitty remakes and sequels now. Barely anything original or worth watching.

But so what? No need to complain. We have Netflix, Apple, Hulu, HBO, … Whatever your taste, there is more high-quality content than any sane person could ever watch. The era of "feature length" is over.

    • The average Disney+ movie is better than the Average Netflix original movie. Netflix only seem to try to make a few good movies each year, and the rest is just bad slop that they make because it doesn't matter if movies are good or not it only matters if enough people watch them.

      • The average is not important, considering the huge volume. Try to move away from movies to mini-series or longer formats.

      • The average Disney+ movie is better than the Average Netflix original movie.

while I agree Netflix exclusive's are mostly slop.

Netflix can be much cheaper per month, and still squeezes some standard new releases in (most recently stuff like Bikeriders, Speak No Evil, Furiosa, upcoming: Havoc).

while on the Disney side, their entire catalogue is still small (menu system is also crap so if feels like even less content). I don't find the new releases worth subbing for. I got 3 months for $17.99 I think last year, didn't feel I got my money's worth because not enough standard new releases. the only thing I enjoyed watching was Hold Your Breath with Sarah Paulson. even though released while I was subbed, didn't like Kinds of kindness. other than that I was occasionally watching older movies on the very short wishlist I have. just wasn't worth it ime.

        • Disney also owns Fox's catalogue now on top of their own studios and their mainstream Searchlight films.

So you're basing an entire company's reputation on a new trailer they released?

Sounds like you're a Nigerian king's wet dream.

Beating a dead horse with Jared Leto? Guaranteed 2/10

wasn't a fan of the original Tron movie

WTF? The one from like 40+ years ago? JFC, some people are hard to please.

Any other movies from the 1980's that you "weren't a fan of"? What about Alien… That was released in the 80's (well 1979, but close enough), not a fan of that "original" either?

no the one from 10 years ago with Jeff bridges. Tron Legacy sorry I didn't know that was the title. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104001/

I just didn't have a good memory of it. maybe I didn't get it I should watch it again.

      • no the one from 10 years ago with Jeff bridges

Oh, as opposed to the one from 43~ish years ago that also starred Jeff Bridges…

  • I don't consider myself a Tron fan, but I did enjoy Tron : Legacy then the series Tron : Uprising, although it ended after season 1.

    This looks good.

I have fallen into the internet trap that anything with Jared Leto is crap, as this was my first impression, but I will give it a try at least for the action.

    • The problem is Leto kept doing comic book movies with scripts written in crayon. That and he was allowed to run loose creating his own Joker that didn't fit in the movies in the slightest.

When he does a standard movie, like House of Gucci, he's a fantastic actor. I thought he was good in Blade Runner too, I still don't understand how it bombed as hard as it did.

Disney can make amazing trailers, it doesn't translate into a good movie.

Seeing the trailer for The Rise of Skywalker made my heart flutter. Then I watched a movie that made basically no sense (it was pretty though).

  • +3

Either you are easily impressed or we didn't watch the same trailer….

    • OP also thought The Crow 2024 looked good from the trailer

      • I watched it on Primevideo would you like to hear my opinion about it?

        • Yes please. The trailer made me not want to watch it.

@Sammy2000: my bad sorry for the delay, read your notification earlier but thought I would reply when I had more time and forgot.

my opinion is it's definitely not going to be anyone favorite revenge movie, because even though there is action, violence, some backstory and some supernatural themes. the entire movie as a whole is two dimensional. I will do my best to not have spoilers.

by that I mean even though it introduces you to characters, because of who/where they are in life you don't really feel for them (I think this is intentional though) and they aren't detailed characters which makes you not care about them even more (they could have done a lot better here). especially the girl played by FKA twigs even at the end she is still basically a cardboard cut out of a person. you can't relate or take her seriously. the villain is also a cardboard cutout of a person. 😂 usually villains can be. but imo not for this movie they needed him to actually be somebody complete the story.

the supernatural side is also not explained at all. other than those involved in supernatural scenes have "a dark secret" which is not revealed, usually this is also the case irl people keep these secrets to themselves and only tell therapists but in a movie imo it should be revealed even very subtly. you get just ominous scenes of evil, which don't say anything other than "some bad energy". even climatic evil scenes you are just left thinking "what is actually happening?" and "explanation please!!".

other than that at least the story keep moving, cool moments and there is plenty of action scenes which were good. and there is a alternate world aspect which keeps your interest. so what happens at the end? I will leave that a mystery if you decide to watch it. some might be like "meh" "what" but I thought it brought the ending together. the scenes just before the end were a bit cheesy though, probably not helped by the fact the girl character is just a cardboard cutout of a person.

the look and action and effects of the movie were great, so I think the director did their job. just the script let it down, you feel like the writer could have worked on the script for another month to make it complete and much better. make the characters more relatable and interesting, make the supernatural scenes have much deeper meaning.

yeah definitely B grade movie, I would say even C grade I was glad I didn't pay 99c to rent it and watched it on Prime instead. ymmv. 🤗
I think B grade usually everything is not so good, but all parts are kind of balanced to make a whole. this movie was like action good, looks/effect good, story bad, characters bad. which makes it unbalanced so worse than a B grade movie imo.

            • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Now the only thing making me want to watch it is your review to enjoy and agree with you about how bad it is.
Thank you for your detailed response.

              • @Sammy2000: no problem. a lot of users say my opinion on movies is just terrible/off, I guess they are real serious about movies so little things annoy them more.

right now I'm watching G20 that was just released on Primevideo you are probably better off watching that. tbh again my opinion might be a bit different to others, but I wish G20 was a bit more ridiculous. some people might like the realism more but I wish she (female president) just started deleting people in a almost non-stop action sequence, kinda like the John Wick movies. that would have been bad ass and much more fun imo. just for the type of movie I mean it has so much potential. 😋 also plenty headshots etc this isn't a PC marvel movie. 😀

                • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Sounds like an 80's film blurb:
The threat is global, but for President Sutton her mission is personal.
I'll add it to my watch list.

                  • @Sammy2000: yeah the synopsis makes it sound like a extremely fun time. maybe that's why I'm feeling like it could do with the energy turned up 200%.
some people will like the more realistic vibe with different pacing and moments of drama in between. other people will probably expect a bit more from what sounded like a punch and shoot type (John wick, Taken, The Transporter) action movie.

  • I thought Tron Legacy was great albeit underrated film, the story was ok but the visuals and soundtrack are awesome. It's still my go to for audio/visual demos.
