Such a strange device, why release a new model that benchmarks worse than your previous device and with the same terrible OS, for more money? Curious to know what the upside to buying this over the Z1 is

    • I agree, that is probably why it has a price drop so early - good for some, but I would just wait for the Legion go 2

    • +2

I am not looking forward to the prices of the z2e version, after seeing the price of the S Z2

      • probably 2k? or 1800….

        • Yeah, I'd guess around 1700-1999

        • By guess is $1800 for a 512gb model, $2000 for 1tb

      • I tbink itll retail for the same $1499 proce point, and youll be able to get it for a bit less on a launch promotion 10% off, or a couple of months later for a bit less, like this one, now $999.

    • Maybe battery life and ergonomics? The controllers were not very comfortable in the prev. gen… but yeah, not totally sure…

    • Bet this will drop even more close to EOFY sale

  • such a downgrade im glad i nabbed the first legion when it went on sale for cheaper than this!

    • Yup! I am waiting for the LG2 - though I hear the perfromance bump isnt that great, May be a good tradeoff to get the older one at 1/3 the price!

      • It all depends if it will use the z2 or the z2e

When does the steam os version release

    • -1

just buy a steam deck you can get a 1tb version for 1050 delivered on the steam store. 3 to 12 hours of battery what more can you want? the biggest issue with these things is windows power management sucks on windows.

Actually more grunt to play aaa titles?

        • what game do you want to play? this is an on the go device, battery life is number one, if you want real grunt performance buy an actual PC.

          • @kungfuman: Got a few games I need to catch up on - God of war, horizon, monster Hunter, wukong and helldivers (notoriously bad fps even with good hardware).

I realise this is an on the go device and I have compared everything on the market and it just isn't there yet for me. I'm been spoilt with streaming games at 1440p 120fps on a tablet at home with graphics absolutely cranked and the thought of playing games at 30fps on the go just gives me ptsd (thanks to playing botw on the switch).

            • +2

@krisspy: its understandable switch has good game play because they optimize games for there platform, they don't really do that with pc games basically the best hardware wins. it hard to get a portable device though on windows with 3 to 12 hours of gaming time on battery power. After seeing how disappointing the switch 2 is I decided to go for a steam deck.

      • You are trying to argue it’s a better idea to buy a technically inferior performance product that is steam deck oled vs. LeGo S for more money?

LeGo S whilst isn’t as good as Z1E is still leagues ahead of Steam Deck APU at 15W and above. Not to mention LeGo S you also get upgradable 2280 SSD + VRR screen and more.

    • I read the Steam version is meant to be really good and better then the deck itself

      • I am weighing up getting the Steam version of this or an OLED steamdeck. Tough choice!

        • +1

yeah i was thinking about the switch 2 and the oled steam deck i just went for the steam deck. in my eyes its better option.

          • @kungfuman: Same, the reveal really put me off. Expensive games and nothing that appealed.

The steam version should be same price as OLED SD looking at the USD comparison.

        • Also read the steam version of this is going to be cheaper then this windows version and also available in a optional Z1Extreme I’ve read

          We will see

        • I had a 64GB LCD Steam Deck, which I upgraded to 1TB. Sold that after I nabbed a 1TB OLED off Marketplace.

Got my wife a ROG Ally and installed Bazitte. I got jealous, bought another ROG Ally and installed Bazitte. I now play the ROG Ally more than the OLED Steam Deck. The OLED Steam Deck certainly has better contrast and colours, but the ROG Ally is 1080p and 120Hz which I prefer. I'm honestly surprised at myself.

          • @tonyamazing: The ROG has a bad battery life too.

            • @kungfuman: Yeah that's true. Personally I've never needed to game for longer than the battery lasts. And I've got decent chargers and batteries around my house.

I might upgrade to a larger capacity battery if I find myself playing more demanding games.

              • @tonyamazing: I plan on using the steam deck on a 15 hour flight :D for me i need as much power out of the battery as I can get.

                • +1

@kungfuman: Huh, long haul flights have power sockets - you can plug it in and charge it during the flight.

      • but what are we talking here fps wise and battery life wise? how many hours can you get out it? remember I am more interested in the portability of the device, so getting alot of hours on it is good.

  • its got pretty bad reviews this.

    • It only gets bad reviews because of the price. Which looks like that is fixed here.

It could stand to be at least $300 cheaper in my eyes though!

      • still the biggest sticking point for me is the battery life none seem to match the steam deck in battery life. Its can have all the bells and whistles in the world but if I can't be on a plane for 10 hours with it, what is the point.

  • I wish the ROG Ally X would hit this price point.

    • HODL for easter or eofy sale

      • Doubt it. Its the best portAble PC and sells well.
