TCL 85" C855 4K QD Mini-LED Google TV (2024) $2995 + NSW Delivery ($0 C&C/ in Limited Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

570

Here it is folks, likely the last sale for 85" C855 as the stock is extremely low (only display stock left in Queensland, for example).

This is definitely not an all time low, but likely the best price we'll see before stock is gone.

Picked one up myself as the price/performance of the new TCL range (C7K, etc.) wasn't as good as this.

No online order and no stock within 200km of Melbourne.

    • I'm not sure if I'm reading the website correctly, but there are lots of green dots next to the stores, which I assume means they have it in stock?

  • +2

I have this TV. Really happy with it. Previously had C845 (2023 model) which was lackluster (I think mine was faulty though as HDR content looked bad and blacks were all grey) but got this as a replacement after some back and forth with customer support.

    • Happy with mine too.

Question, does your Wi-Fi disconnect almost every time you turn it on?

      • Mine does disconnect and connect back every time on start up.

      • I had this issue. Moved the router a bit closer and haven’t had a problem since.

        • My router is literally under my tv and it still disconnects… other than that, there’s some micro stuttering with some kind of content. I still really like the tv , though

          • +3

@pragmaticguy: If it's that close why not just connect it by wire?

            • @greatlamp: TVs wired is max 100Mbps unless you buy a gigabit ethernet adaptor which can be plugged into the USB port.

              TV supports WiFi 6.

Despite that, having to go into settings to reconnect WiFi half the time gives me the shits, so I might try it and see if I can avoid buffering.
Router is about a metre away from the TV. Hopefully I remembered to feed an ethernet cable through the wall cavity when I mounted it. Will check this weekend.

            • @greatlamp: As @pusdi said… I have the cable, but tv doesn’t seem to work the same with high res content if not on wifi 6. Not sure why, because 100mbps should be enough

              • @pragmaticguy: That's concerning. 4K content uses 15-25 mbps via streaming services. There's no bandwidth limitations. I was very confused by @Pusdi comment around 'max 100mbps' as if that was any sort of limitation

        • just came here to report I have updated my TV firmware from V135 to the latest (V486), using the zip file found in the tclupdates telegram group. Motion handling seems to be vastly improved, will keep an eye if wifi connectivity also improves.

    • I have a 75C845 and an 85C755. I have calibrated both and I’m happy with their performance and value. I much prefer the C845 for watch footy though, especially if the stream is HD and not 4K. The processor is much better and faster.

My TV hasn’t updated and is stuck on firmware V8-T653T01-LF1V135 but the latest is V8-T653T01-LF1V486 which brings new improvements.

      What firmware are you on?

      • +1

on my c855 fw v486 even fixed some bugs, just download and install it

        • I downloaded it yesterday from the Telegram group. Just need to organise a USB.

      • Hey man, I'm waiting for a deal on 75 C855, how is the motion in footy on it? I've seen some crappy TVs and there's artifacts as the ball moves through the air etc. this is the only thing I'm worried about that mighy make me go for a 65 C4.

        • I come from a Sony and I calibrate TVs as a hobby

upgrade fw to 486, set both motion settings to 3-5 and enjoy, motion now is a tad below Sony, likely on par with lg/Samsung

          also go 85 :)

          • @CrazyTachikoma: Thanks, how will it compare to something like a C4 OLED?

            • +1

@bleeder: no burn in, no oled degradation

still has amazing blacks, mostly no blooming

              oleds are very very overrated

              • @CrazyTachikoma: In the store I feel like I could tell the difference, but I feel like at home I will just get used to whatever I have. Main issue I'm concerned about with miniLED is motion, I've seen a few posts like in this thread where people complain about watching sports on them. All I use my TV for is sports, so I feel like I may be better to go OLED to be on the safe side. But at the same time if I get miniLED I can afford a 10" bigger TV which would be more suitable for my setup.

                • @bleeder: hey hey, OLED has motions issues as well

Motion is more a brand thing than a tech thing, Sony being the best, but not worth paying 2-3x the price of the TV for such small improvement

TCL in this x55 gen improved motion a lot, a have an older one and can compare. That's why people complained.

                  • @CrazyTachikoma: Sorry to bother you again, but one last question as you seem to know your shit haha. My 10 year old Panasonic seems to be perfect with motion as far as I can see (not so perfect on other things), where as I look at these new miniLEDs and OLEDs in store and I can see issues. Is it possible they are actually worse than my 10 year old Panasonic? Or do you think it's about how they are tuned in store or maybe I am just looking too close in store haha. Also could be that my Panasonic is only 1080p, maybe the jump to 4K makes it easier to see issues? I'm just worried I get a brand new TV and it's actually worse with motion than my crappy old TV.

                    • @bleeder: unless you have a Panasonic CRT or plasma, any modern LCD/OLED will run leaps around your old TV. As for the reason they look like shit in store (to you) could be any of the following
                      - you are just used to your TV's motion
                      - store TVs are set to the stupidest modes possible, with everything set to max/ultra/bleed/kill me

any mid to high end Sony/TCL/LG/Samsung, with anti blur and anti judder (each brand calls these by different names) set to 30-40% intensity, will give a smooth experience without the soap opera effect

                      • @CrazyTachikoma: It's LED. Thanks that gives me more comfort about getting the 75 C855. Just need the right deal to come up. I'd probably buy it if it gets down to $2K again, but I see the C845 got to $1600, that would be nice! Bit worried I've missed all the C855 sales now…

                        • @bleeder: there's the new c8k… I'm sure it's better than the C855

I managed to get my C855 around September last year for 2700 in 85inch

        • I have been playing around with the settings a lot over the last few dayson 85c755 and 75C845. I found the best result was to switch all motion to the lowest settings (or off) and clarity settings off, other than some added sharpness. Anything dynamic is off.

I watch a lot of footy via Kayo. The 4K streams look great, but the HD streams always have some processing issues with the grass. I think this can’t be helped because of the size of the screen and stream quality. Increasing motion settings actually has a negative effect and gives a blurry effect and ghost the footy during kicks. I spent a lot of time calibrating the same pieces of footage and have zero ghosting now. My results generally reflect the calibration guides found online and I’m very happy with the results.

Updated to v486 firmware today. The C845 is bloody bright and I do prefer it over the C755. Love the big ol’ 85 though in my open plan living area.

  • What's the difference between C755 & C855?

    • +3

      Mainly brightness and dimming zones.
The TCL website allows you to compare models pretty easily: https://www.tcl.com/au/en/tvs?mini-led-tv

      • I tried to compere the 85c745 that I bought from another deal to this deal and there is not much it can tell me.

    • I saw the c655 c745 c755 c855 and a bunch of other TV's like the Hisense U6N U7N U8N and LG C4 and sold Samsung's and Sony's.

The c655 just looked like a normal average tv.

The c755 looked better than the c655 and I think c745.

But here is where it gets weird for me the c745 looked much brighter and clearer popped out more than the c755 and I compared it with multiple c655 and c755 display TV's they had not just one and for brighter clearer display the c745 looked better I don't know why.

And lastly the c855 looked so good omg it really is in a world of its own no comparison the clarity and brightness really makes the details pop the only other tv that made me drool more was the LG C4 OLED which I want to buy so bad but my PC monitor use case scenario would screen burn it in really fast.

I'm conflicted now I need to see the TV's at another store too confirm what I saw at JB hi-fi.

But right now I am not sold on the c755 I am actually more sold on the c745.

I am considering reorganising my space to fit a c855 since the smallest they come in is a 65".

What I'm hoping is if I can find a store that is displaying the c6k and c7k because they come in my sizes and are not cheap but on paper look well worth it.

I need to look at the c655 and c745 c755 again because they didn't look much different.

      • I found Good Guys better because they play regular movies and stuff on them and let me try YouTube. JB had the demo crap that makes the tv look better than it is and wouldn't let me try anything else. Could have been th particular stores I went to though.

Thought 655 looked horrible. 755 looked great, 855 was like 755 but slightly brighter, C4 looked the best (didn't compare brightness as was the other side of the room)

        • were you able to check c7k by any chance?

that is the one i am looking at now since c855 doesn't make 55" and under (i just remeasured my space and 65" is too big sadly first world problems)

Will give The Good Guys a go.

I am looking at checking Harvey Norman in person and any other TV display stores I might be able to think of maybe like Myer if they still do TV displays and etc.

      • The top models have bits and are far brighter. My C845 destroys my C755 and almost gives me a tan. Great in a bright room.

    • Saw them in person and only difference I could see (quick look only) was the brightness was slightly higher on the 855

  • I wonder if the price of chinese goods in australia will drop a bit soon, if the orange mussolini tariffs with US hit chinese imports.

    • +2

Plausible but highly uncertain still as cheese dick could change his mind, or what's left of it, at any time. The Australian dollar tanking coukd counterbalance this or even push prices up.

      • -1

        "cheese dick"

I think this may be my favourite of all his nicknames.

  • I bought an 85" TCL 85c655 recently…. took 3 months to become in stock, but for $1398 after gift card discounts I'm loving it.
No doubt different quality from the deal in this post, but good for my requirements.
The younger dog spends a lot of time watching TV now…. She can recognise a dog in a frozen frame, and if the video is live she gets very excited.

  • -5

If you can wait 3 to 6 months, I'd be looking at the successor to this model. Don't know much about it though..

    • +15

And if you wait 6 months on top of that, you can score the successor model on clearance sale too.
But by that point you may as well wait another 6 months for the successor to the successor model.

      • +2

Yep agree, I think the only time these just wait comments make sense in expensive early adoption tech i.e - I.e 110"+ TV's right now.

85's like this TV are in such a good spot right now for price to performance I think if your keen for one just pull the trigger on a good deal

    • -2

Meh I wouldn't pull the trigger on that either way

      • Pray , do tell?

    • I scored two of these 85inch c855s last year between June and October by googling prices online before they hit ozbargain and sold out. Both paid less than $2700. One for me, and then one for my parents because I liked it so much.

It depends on how much money you want to save, and how patient you are!

NB: By Black Friday last year, stock was hard to come by and the sales weren't ATLs.

  • +2

Mini LED FTW. I have the Bravia 7 mini LED and LG B8 OLED. There is a difference but Bravia comes close without any risk of burn-in.

    Highly recommended.

    • +1

Big MiniLED fan myself and own one but I think its a bit unfair to compare a 7 year old tv to one from this year when comparing technologies…

I think if same size Oled & miniLED were the same price most would go OLED.

      • Actually, it's a pretty fair comparison given the B4 is a downgrade over the B8: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-b8-oled-vs-lg-b4-…

        • You gotta be a bit careful when using Rtings for TV's tested years apart, especially when its one key metric (in this case, reflections) throwing the overall score that very well may have very different testing methods and scales for the score as TV's get better and better.

I think it would be unfair in this case to call the B4 worse then the 8 with its better brightness, colour and addition of VRR.

    • Agree. I have a QN90A and struggle to replace it. Yes, even OLED.

      • Yeah agree, I don't really see me upgrading my QN90D until 120+ inches get cheap (er)

        • They're so underrated. Probably due to TCL having dominated the Mini LED market.

  • Not a bad price for a fantastic TV, but I got one for $2,254 (after cashback) on Black Friday 2023. A deal for the ages.

    • +1

2024 perhaps? C855 didn't exist on Black Friday 2023. I got mine for $2,300 after gift card in October 2024, it's fine for a bright room, I still prefer to watch TV on my old Pioneer Kuro in the dark ;)

      • +1

You have a Kuro? Haha. Classic.

      • +2

My mistake, I got the C845.

    • +1

I managed to grab the 85 c855 for $2100 delivered October last year, that was a deal for the ages my friend!

      • How ?? Cheaper I’ve seen last year was 2700. After gift cards maybe 2500?

        • Harvey Norman had it for $2557 October last year. I price matched with jb hi fi and used their 20% off perks voucher through the price match link to see if it worked and it did haha.
Was $2045 and the delivery took it to $2100.

  • -4

What's mini about an 85" TV?

    • +4

      The….the LEDs are mini…not the TV….

    • +2

      Unsure if serious?

      • +1

As are apparently quite a few dullards. ;)

    • +1

When your other TV is 98 inches, this one looks mini. Amazing what a difference a few inches makes. Apparently.

      • +2

        That’s what she said.

  • I wondering what would be the price for upcoming Sony Bravia 5 85inch Mini LED, I see 4.5k for Bravia 7 so I wonder if would be in the 3,500-3,800 RRP range. Might be better of holding out until Sony's pricing is out.

  • +1

Have the 75” and it’s phenomenal

Upgraded from a Hisense, vidaa can go die

    • I got the hisense 75" u8k but it had hdmi and CEC issues with the google streamer, so wanted to return it and change to 85" C855 that I got for $2440 but the retailer nor hisense would accept that it was a bug on their software.

I wanted the bigger TV and google TV OS.

      • Yeah I hear you but don’t think that’s grounds for a refund though.

My Hisense Q8 had the same cec issues with my amplifier where it wouldn’t pair. Changed hdmi cables, amplifier settings but no dice.

Basically fixed with a full factory reset

Still tcl has always been the ever reliable one

        • It was an "old" (6 years old) Yamaha sound bar direct to the Hisense tv via HDMI. Would connect and then randomly disconnected, had to do a power cycle to get it back for maybe one session of tv. The google streamer seemed to confuse the CEC (even with the remote not setup to control the tv or soundbar at all) and cause the disconnection but Hisense wouldn't take it as a bug of their OS. Even the Hisense tech came out and tried everything including factory reset and a bunch of other hidden settings.

Seems the soundbar stayed connected fine without the google streamer so they blamed that.

Instead I got a Hisense 5.1.2 soundbar for $388 which sounds amazing and no disconnection issues. The tv picture is great and super bright, just the vidaa is not the best. So in the end pretty happy.

  • +1

great deal, got a 77 inch C4 OLED ex display from the GG for 3200 last week…. maybe should have held out for this one…

    • In your case. I wouldn’t be having buyer remorse. 85 inch is not that big. I have 98 inch at home. Seen an 85 inch and say eh.

      • +1

Strange logic. Of course, an 85" will seem small to someone with a 98". They are coming from a 77" which will appear large until their eyes get used to it.

        • I’m just saying the difference between the 77 inch and the 85 inch is not that big. He won’t be missing out on much especially since an oled is still the superior picture quality. I have a 98 inch mini led and 55 inch oled so I know the pro and cons of each tech

    • Pretty good deal on the 77”C4,
if it’s been in display mode for a year though I’d be putting it through its paces with pixel cleaning etc and turn the economy mode on for a while.
The C4 is a fairly bright for an OLED.
Despite everything they say , they still burn-in over time, and why they make the G model with the heatsink and the 5year panel warranty.

    • Oh man the LG C4 looks superb.

Honestly a good deal for a great screen.

Just the burn in is putting me off away otherwise no brainer instant buy but I need a tv for a PC screen.

    • This deal wasn't on Ozbargain I think? I might have begged my wife to let me get it…

      • It an ex display so no it wasn’t a nationwide deal.

  • do you get further discount on display models?

    • Not unlesss they are literally taking it down off the wall as you make an offer,
but it’s worth asking in the store.

    • only if it happens to be the actual last one in the shop and they don't plan to get more in.
Have to be very lucky or research stock levels if you are hunting for a specific model.

I got a 85C745 display model by chance. They discounted it a couple of hundred and offered an extended warranty and delivery at 50% off.
Who knows how many hours it has been on at the shop. but hopefully I'll be safe for at least 5 years (warranty)

    • I've seen some good deals on display models, sometimes they have it written on it too. Only as good as the best sales though. But be careful, I saw one with some werid problem looked like a customer may have knocked it or something.

  • +1

Have the 65 inch. Not a bad tv, not quite as 'pretty' as my LG OLED and seems to have a few odd wifi issues (too many times where we need to manually reconnect from the settings) but otherwise happy with it. Plex gui runs far better than on my LG.

  • Watching my TCL 85c855 now. Love watching the footy on it…super bright and great picture.

  • -1

I have a feeling we won't be seeing prices like this in the next yearly updates. Price trend has been going up with each model. I purchased my 75inch c835 which was 1.4k on clearance and have not seen clearance prices that cheap for the same class and size

Now that TCL have established a name for themselves, I think prices will go up. It'll still be comparatively cheaper compared to other brands but it won't be as crazy cheap as before. So if there isn't much difference between c855 and the 2025 models then this deal is pretty good.

    • TVs pretty much always fall in price.

Larger screens, more features, lower prices.

  • Supercheap!

  • +3

Incredible set, have the 98”. No perceived blooming and seems to provide infinite contrast. What’s extra amazing is it turns all games into a 120fps presentation with no input lag to be noticed, and I’m pretty much a lag bloodhound and snob.

Any 30fps game of old that has become unpalatable is now a pleasure. 👍🏻

    • +1

Super jelly also I didn't know that it did that with old games now I really need to get this.

  • Just managed to buy one. Can anyone recommend a good wall mount for it please?

  • I know this is super wishful thinking but I wish they made this specific tv model in 43" 48" 50" or 55".

After looking at it in person today it really was a huge difference compared to the c755.

Only the LG C4 looked better than this tv honestly but that's OLED :(

Ah life is too cruel sometimes.

  • +1

    Got excited to finally see a C855 deal, but it's 85" :(

Been hanging out for a good deal on the 75.

  • +1

Got the 75" down to $2200. Not the ATL, but there is hardly any stock left.

    • Did you buy? Mind sharing the receipt please? Wouldn't mind it at 2200

    • Please share the receipt. Would buy 75" for $2200. Thanks in advance

  • I've got the C745 pro which is already very very good. It's miles better than Samsung QLED TV I used to have (due to high number of dimming zones) but that's not as high as to be classified as mini LED (hence C745 isn't technically called mini LED). Judging by the quality of that TV and deep black levels, I can only imagine how good this C855 would be..

  • how is the TCL 85 P7K 2025 model ? Anyone got one ?

  • Managed to bring price down to $2828.85 delivered using some gc's and a small discount by asking over live chat. Expected to arrive tomorrow.

  • Jb called, they want to give me used stock model for this purchase. A tv used 10h a day everyday for a year. 🤪
