[Switch] The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom $48 + $1.99 Standard Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Harvey Norman

1930

I realise HN aren't popular here but this is a good price. For those with Switch 2 orders I believe the upgrade will cost $10 USD (~$17 AUD)

Got it for $45.60 from Officeworks with their price beat guarantee. Thank you

      • +12

        This is the way.

      • Did you have to call them or web chat?

        • You'll have to call up as they don’t have a web chat option

        • You might have better luck going in person.

Online person rejected due to HN not having same product code as them.

      • +1

Tried calling up OW for price beat but didn't work for me. Apparently they couldn't match the part number on the HN website. Must just depend on who you speak to.

JB Hi-Fi was good enough to price match for me.

        Thanks OP!

      • My thoughts exactly.

      • +1

Price Beat both games at OW over the phone just now. Apparently, they have updated the price on TOTK to match HN though, so YMMV in terms of getting it discounted to $45.60

      • +1

OW are awful for price matching. In fact, I'd rather give money to Harvey than deal with OW price match policy

    • yeah currently enjoying this on my steam deck good game.

    • +1

Thanks for this! JB price matched it for me at the checkout counter.

    Great for pricematching!

NSOL+ will have S2 upgrade "free", $48 for those with the sub is a great price for ToTK on S2.

    • What's the difference between ToTk on S2 vs S1? More DLCs?

I'm sure they wish that looked more different than it does lol

          • +1

@drprox: It's pretty impressive for an emulator running on portable hardware with upscaling. Battery life is supposedly decent too. Power draw for the game might be around 6W

            • @belongsinforums: Sure that all sounds great but I guess I mean it looks lovely on switch and looks (in the video) very similar on switch 2. That's not bad I just don't see any need to grab on switch 2 or why it would, in itself, be a major selling point for the new console.

              • @drprox: Because 10 fps is unplayable. A more extreme example is any of tje the musou games on switch.

                • @belongsinforums: I had no idea it was 10fps on the switch. I have the game but haven't played it yet so will check it out for the lols

                  • +1

@drprox: The Korok Forest is pretty shocking on the Switch. It’s lovely scenery, but it really does get down to 10FPS at the worst bit.

The rest of the game is fine. Some frame drops, but nothing like the forest. It really makes you wonder why they didn’t just tone its graphics down in that section. It’s jarring.

                    • @axyh: using ultrahannd almost freezes my mariko

                      • @belongsinforums: Yep, but that’s ToTK, which has a different set of issues.

                    • @axyh: They should’ve have just used heavy FSR on that section.

                  • @drprox: Mostly I think it's 30. But there are bad dips at times, especially when there are lots of effects on screen, very choppy

            • @belongsinforums: Isn’t the Switch 2 using hybrid emulation like the fat PS3s that don’t have the full PS2 chip?
As in, the CPU is native, but the GPU shaders and some I/O have to be emulated, especially since graphically intensive Switch games used lower-level shaders that are coded similarly to how DeepSeek used NVIDIA PTX (assembly for GPUs) to make R1 run on lower-end hardware that would make games harder to ensure compatibility with Switch 2.

EDIT: It could also be a part of using their ill-gotten ownership of Yuzu from that lawsuit a while back, but I doubt they’d want anything to do with an inferior emulator compared to their own internal tools.

              • @FujinShu: their official line is "the switch 2 does not share any hardware with the switch 1"

                • @belongsinforums: It still does have an ARM CPU, so it’s sharing the same ISA as the Switch 1, kinda like how the PS5 and new Xboxes share the same x86 ISA as the previous generation.

                  • +1

@FujinShu: makes sense as they did say something to the effect of "it's a hybrid solution"

              • @FujinShu: I wouldn't make the assumption that their internal tools are better.

Canoe on the SNES mini wasn't that impressive.

                • @TightLikeThisx: They made the Canoe emulator from scratch mainly for the few games on the SNES Classic that ran on a low-end ARM chip, as well as Virtual Console for the PowerPC-based Wii and Wii U and the ARM chip in the 3DS, because they didn’t use an emulator for making SNES games on their actual computers and instead they probably used a developer cartridge to build the game locally and send the build to an actual SNES for testing, rather than being able to emulate the console within the computer to quickly test.
The Switch 2, meanwhile, needs to play at least 99% of the existing Switch 1 library at launch, and they already have their own in-house development emulator for testing games directly on their computers, so they may as well port their emulator to run Switch 1 games perfectly, as well as use compatibility layers to allow the Switch 2 CPU (not the SoC as a whole) to run Switch 1 games natively, freeing up resources to emulate the other parts of the Switch 1 SoC.

                • @TightLikeThisx: Didn't Nintendo get caught using one of the big name emulators at one of their event booths or something?

            • @belongsinforums: I’m thinking it’s likely a port

              • @robinbanks: they announced its emulated

                • @belongsinforums: My understanding is that Nintendo have talked about Switch 2 backward compatibility with Switch games, and that they’re emulated/running with a compatability layer. I don’t believe they’ve announced that ‘Switch 2 Edition’ games are emulated. Please share a source if I’m wrong, but even the ‘Switch 2 Edition’ moniker would indicate to me that they’re Switch 2 Versions ie ports

        • Thank you

up once your NSOL+ membership expires, you cannot use the upgrades anymore

    • +1

I forget that I'm on the NSO family plan because it's so cheap, like $15 a year or something. I don't even know who the members of the plan are. My friend joined us up with randos online.

    • had the same though… buy this game now at $48, get the NSOL+ subscription when the S2 launches for $60/yr so it's $108 total which is basically the cost of buying the switch2 version of this game… and the subscription gives me a bunch of other stuff as well…

      • I’d rather just trade in the game and buy the Switch 2 version instead at that point.
But it depends on whether I want to send duped items to others with Zelda Notes.

    Go Harvey!

    • Fan Boi?

      • -1

Lol I don't think anyone is a Harvey Norman fanboy. I do think it's hilarious how upset people get about him though and this is actually a great deal. So go Harvey!

        • you think it's hilarious that he successfully lobbied for the government to reduce the tax free import threshold to $0, just to fatten his own wallet?

          • -1

@belongsinforums: It's hilarious that people blame Gerry and not the corrupt people that actually make the rules in the government. Of course a business person wants an even playing field. The government could lower taxes, but no: more taxes is always the answer! See? Hilarious.

            • @locknuts: i'll make it simpler for you.
big money guy gives big money to politic group. says there's more if you give me my money back by pushing through bill in gubbament.
politic guys say okay me likey money.
politic guys follow through with bills to make rich guy richer.
politic guy and gerry very happy. winner winner.
              the rest of us losers

              • @belongsinforums: "politic guys say okay me likey money.
politic guys follow through with bills to make rich guy richer."

You said it yourself. Politic guy is in charge of making the rules.

He is to blame for being weak. Leadership requires strength.

            • @locknuts: What’s even about charging tax on items that Gerry doesn’t even sell? No one’s buying a goddamn fridge from AliExpress.

Only if you have dozens of hours to learn all the gameplay mechanics, item effects, combinations, etc.

      • +2

respectfully disagree. hit sword, shoot arrow, block with shield, fly with paraglider. beauty of this game is the skill floor is very low

    • +1

First Zelda game for me. I got bored of it within 2 hours and never played it again. It's because of the open-world aspect which causes me to lose interest. Same thing happened with The Witcher 3.

      • +1

A traditional Zelda game might be more to your liking, like ocarina of time, or any of the Gameboy ones

      • +1

You might prefer the top down Zeldas on Switch: Links Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom.

  • +4

I still prefer BoTW overall, but TOTK is an extraordinary game.

  • +3

i am still stuck on Twlight light Princess on the GC. I guess this will go on my shame pile.

    • +1

No one is forced to play current gen games on next gen hardware.

ToTK runs perfectly fine on the Switch.

      • +4

"Perfectly fine" is very much up to interpretation. This game pushed the console to its absolute limits which was at times a little too far IMO. 15/20FPS is unacceptable.

I totally agree the paid upgrade is absolute BS for a game you've already bought.

      • +1

No you're right no one is forced to play on the switch 2. Even the Nintendo president said if you're too poor to buy the switch 2 then go play on switch 1.

My beef is with the double dipping Nintendo does on everything. Botw is gonna cost $110 for the switch 2 version, the switch one edition was like $60 and the wiiu version was even lower at around $40 on sale.

It's an 8 year old game that's been re-released over and over and over and now magically has its rrp refreshed at quadruple A game prices.

        • +2

hmm? jbhifi have it at $99, which is the $80 for launch price BOTW and a $20 switch 2 upgrade (assumed AUD price point)

plus it's still in pre-order range on a brand new release. I doubt JB even properly know what the supply price for these games exactly is yet, so they're setting it high. Any "Just announced" game always has a high pre-order price which often drops closer to launch. I'd not be surprised if we end up paying $89 or 94 AUD for the new normal priced switch games on release.

        • +3

In fairness, yours is the most butthurt perspective possible.

From my perspective, I never played ToTK on Switch, so picked it up for $48 - I already subscribe to the expansion pass, so it's not going to cost me any extra.

Sure, free upgrades would be the best option for the consumer. But this is probably the best generational upgrade path Nintendo has ever offered their player base… not saying it's the right thing but it's probably the truth.

          • @Sidog: If Nintendo caps Switch 2 remasters at $15 per upgrade like what the PS5 has for PS4 games, that would be enough for me.

      • Not true, unless you overclock your switch. Looks great in previews on switch 2 but not worth it for me as i have edizon running

  • Got it from Officeworks with pricematching - Thanks OP

  • Nice, matched at JB Hifi so I could pickup locally and then used previously purchased gift cards from Flybuys.

    • This is the way.

  • +1

Who in their right mind would buy the Switch 2 version of the game for $108. Hopefully we are looking at $20 max for the upgrade..

    • yeah it's $20 fro memory to purchase the upgrade, OR if you have the Nintendo Switch online 'Expandion' subscription ($60 a year) then the upgrade is free.

      • +1

Or get family pass which works out to under $14/year after splitting with 8 accounts. Check ozbargain classified

  • Great price! I just paid this much for second hand copies to get ready for the switch 2.

  • +1

assuming this should also work on the switch 2

    • Yeah, you should be able to just purchase the upgrade pack or have it included with NOS + Expansion Pack.

  • +1

For those that want to touch HN with generous inches of pole - they have the collectors edition of TOTK for $118

    • Are the extra contents worth $70 ?

      • If you’re a fan of the series - I reckon

  • Would this be factory sealed or opened box? Do you need to sign for delivery? Asking because it would be a birthday present

    • +1

Depends on the store, that is allocated the order (unless you specify Click & Collect).

Where I worked (up until nearly 2 years ago), we kept them in Security cases at our store.
If a store however, has a high theft of these titles, they may be unsealed, (unless they have bulk Qty's).

Also, some stores may use Aramex, or Couriers Please, as they are cheaper (plus absorbing the cost). AusPost costs the store @ $8.

  • Just received a back ordered email

  • I didn’t think they could top BotW, but after playing this - Just wow.. best game on the Switch. It’s a steal at this price.

  • +1

    Thanks grabbed a copy as I'll be getting a switch 2.. I think…

  • +2

Anyone found any deals for kirby and the forgotten land? looking to find it for cheap so i can buy the upgrade pack later myself

    • Downvoting people for asking a question is ridiculous smh…

Have an upvote on me 🙂

  • +2

They are popular here, for price matching purpose.

Great game. Emulate on PC for an even better experience :~)

  • +7
  • Such a good game! It's crazy how optimised this is.

  • +1

I got Mario wonder with a price beat at officeworks for 55.10. Stacked it with a $50 Ultimate gift card to get $5 bonus in Woolies points.

I’m trying to collect a bunch of games for the switch 2 launch since I completely skipped over the original. Is it worth playing the original breath of the wild first? I haven’t played any Zelda games before.

    • +3

definetly try to play breath of the wild first.
