I have been researching projectors for our theatre room build and came across this deal for the C2 Ultra. This recently released model is receiving great reviews and appears will be more than enough projector for our needs. It was the apparent absence of laser speckle that won me over for the Ultra (as opposed to the C1 and C2 pro) as it seems unlikely to have a sickening effect on some of the household viewers. The RRP appears to be $4495 (if your local JB HiFi has this in stock, perhaps you could get it price-matched). Undoubtedly, some sales later in the year will likely beat this price (just like the C1 did in December last year), however, I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent saving considering it has not been on the market long in Aus.

Shipping for me to WA was $37

    Anyone has experience on this?

This seemed to be the best and least biased comparison video of the current lifestyle projector models that are on the market. The 29-minute mark provides and nice summary:

    • There is one on display at a Harvey Norman near me. They have it up on a 200" screen and it looks phenomenal. Even in the bright environment it looks fantastic. I haven't committed yet but I'm pretty happy with what Hisense is putting out these days projector wise, so I'm strongly considering it.

I also bought this today but from Alibaba, via a recommended seller on previous Ozbargain thread. This came to $2100 Aud including delivery. Hard to justify the cost of $3800 when the price difference is huge.

    • Real bargain in the comments! Are links allowed?

    • Good find, that is quite the saving.

    • The AliExpress or similar sites are usually not the same specs and are a watered down version. I saw it with the C1 projector, someone I know purchased and it was in Chinese and the specs were not to the standards of the Aus model. Can't say how true this is for this particular model but be cautious

      • That is definitely true, I do not think they are watered down version (should be identical hardware) . But the Chinese version is often inferior terms software. I intend to use C2 Ultra with Nvidia Sheild TV anyway and $1700 price difference was too much for me to care about Chinese version VS AU version.

        • True.. does if good enough to replace tv?

Pretty comprehensive review from a well regarded projector reviewer … just convert French to English

    Too expensive

    • Other places cheap?

    • Cheaper than a lot of 98/100" TVs and goes up to 300"

      • Whats viddaa? Thats cheaper same model?

Get a chromecast / fire tv too. Their VIDAA OS sucks

  • How big is the room?

  • For anyone interested, this has Dolby Vision, but the Chinese one does not. I bought this form AliExpress last August and its been an amazing unit. For anyone in the know the Lucia and the Valerian share the same hardware, but use different software. Hisense have recently been sending out firmware to improve dynamic contrast to emulate the EBL found on the Valerian that has all the Zeitgeist at the moment.

    • So your one is viddaa version?

      • Yep, but i use streaming boxes so OS not an issue

        • Without dolby vision, the print must not be that good?

Is it good to replace a tv? Enjoyable?

  • I'm thinking recently to get a TCL 100" TV but not sure if this would be a better buy. Has anyone compared how this stack against TCL QLED TVs?

I would go this over a 100" tv.
It's portable so you don't need to pay for installation (can install a screen yourself)
Brightness wise it works well in a medium bright room and quality wise I prefer Hisense over TCL

I was in a similar position when comparing the two different options. In the end, the deciding factor was my assumption that this would be more robust with young children around. A 100" TV is a pretty big area that could potentially get hit with an unintentional flying object (this seems to be almost normalised in my household). I also believe that I will end up with a 120" screen which is significantly bigger than 100" when comparing the two.

      • Are you not worried about kids looking into the projector light? I bet, it could be damaging to the eyes

        • +1

These projectors have eye protection features 👍
Much safer than a 100kg screen falling on them

  • Question, does it require special screen or paint? Anyone have recommendations?

Also, recommendations for a value sound system will be appreciated as well.
