    • Thanks. Not keen on Samsung. Heard they are a hit and miss with their quality.

I've had my Samsung for 8 years now and I've never had an issue with it. If you/your wife have Facebook, join Mums who Clean and search best washing machine, you ll see heaps of recommendations and what to avoid

        • Thanks. Appreciate the help

Any washer not made in China would be a good bet…..
If you can find one these days

        • Maybe Vietnam or the Philippines?

    German made Bosch.

    • The one in my link is a Spain made Bosch. Couldn't find a deal under $1000 for a german made Bosch.

      • -2

Do not drink & eat one week buy Gerrman made Bosh otherwise soon you would come here and cry!

        • +2

My Spanish one has been great so far

Are the bits inside made in Germany as well or are they quality Chinese components? May as well skip the German middle man and get a Haier instead. Mine was $499 from Harvey Norman and hasn't had any issues in 4 years.

      • +1

My Haier lasted 4 months. It wasn't the product's fault it became junk. It was that to fix a $440 washing machine, Haier wanted me pay over $400 for the spare part - a 30cm long cable - and another $200 to come and fit it. My previous Haier washing machine lasted a while, after the replacement of a faulty major part under warranty. But a 5c piece left in a pocket ended up in the pump and killed it because they'd saved 50c by not putting a mesh screen over the pump inlet. So with the issues with the first one, then the absurdly ridiculous cost of replacement parts for the second, its hard to call Haier washing machines an OzBargain.

    • This week I tried to get a like for like replacement for my Bosch hot water system. After one company saying it might take a while to get one, another told me why. Bosch had so embarrassed itself by putting a real dog of a product on the market it had pulled out of making hot water systems altogether. The only Bosch systems available were years old stock that hadn't been sold yet. So Bosch doesn't always mean good.

Sounds like BS. Probably just trying to sell you a different brand. Bosch is one of the biggest manufacturers of hws in the world. Number one in UK and Europe.

    • How long have you had it for? I just came across this comment when I was searching for OP

Not a Bosch, if you want it to last.
I have had 2 German made Bosch ‘s and they don’t last longer than 4-5 years

  • If you have access to the good guys commercial, that Bosch is $848

    • Have you had experience with that Bosch - good or bad?

  • +2

Haier are pretty good these days

    • +2

      Hisense preferable to Samsung, LG.

And the programmes are more sane than Bosch etc.

      • Ok but the one on my link, reviews said it spins like crazy almost flying up

  • +1

Can someone help me with the Choice ratings of the models in the link?

Miele sometimes has outlet stock below $1K

    • Thanks. Couldn't find one currently and in need to make a call on one swiftly.

    Why top loader isnt popular?

    • I prefer top loaders.

Top-load washing machines are generally considered more reliable than front-load washers. They typically last longer and have lower repair costs. The average life expectancy of a standard top-load washer is 14 years, while the average life expectancy of a high-efficiency front-load or top-load washer is 11 years.
Additionally, top-load washers are easier to maintain and clean, which can contribute to their longevity.

    • +5

They don't clean as well and aren't as efficient.

      Night and day difference imo.

      • I hate cleaning the water from small outlet from front loading machine (bosch, 10 yo). Do you know if newer model still have that?

  • Have a look at the fisher and paykel as well. Depends on what loaf capacity you want

    • +6

I don't think he's making bread in it.

      • But maybe his mixing the dough before baking it in his dryer

  • +1

I would go the LG. I bought my LG front loader in 2008 and it's still going strong (touch wood).

  • +2

Wife and I bought one of the cheapest Haier models back in 2019 when we started living together… it's still running and running strong. Of course, we've now moved into a new house, using a LG washtower as our main washer/dryer, and the Haier is in the garage as our pug's washing machine.

    • Please don’t put your pug in the washing machine, unless it’s on low rpm spin cycle of course

When it comes to washing machines, the general consensus on OZB is get the Bosch. Had our Bosch series 8 god knows for how many years and 5+ loads a week, they just work.

    • +1

Its because Ozb like to brag about their german made Bosch/Miele. All the other brands as much as reliable as them.
Having said that, they perfect brands when you selling your house, damn, that house got german appliances lol

      • +2

Just get a couple of these before open house.

      • +1

OzB devotion to Bosch is textbook Groupthink: the psychological phenomenon where group members dismiss dissenting opinions, disregard alternatives and blindly prioritise conformity over critical thinking. Not that there's anything wrong with that…

    • There's no basis to your consensus argument. On this thread alone there's been 2 recommending Haier, one Samsung and one LG and only two people suggesting Bosch.

      2/6 ≠ consensus

  • I have a haier. 6 years old, good machine, and still going strong.

I used to repair washing machines. Samsung or LG also get my vote.

  • Never had a washing machine that wasn't reliable. When I was renting 10 years ago, my landlord bought a Simpson washing machine that was so reliable I bought myself the same model. Only cost about $600. Still going strong after 4 years.

  • Check were the product is made and also the actual warranty terms. Most of the time its 2 years and 10 year's on the motor parts.

I would also be checking complaint about the seller and if they comply with ACL which a separate thing to warranty.

Even the best products can have issue and you would want to know the seller and manufacturer will support you.

  • We bought the LG one you listed (WV5-1409W) at the start of Feb and it's been great. Fairly quiet, compared to our last Haier that is.

We did buy it for 799 + 150 for 3 year additional care plan (total 5 yr warranty equiv) = $949 delivered and installed from AppliancesOnline… So current price seems expensive….

But no complaints. I wanted to get a German made Bosch but couldn't find the budget at the time, and we really needed a washing machine.
I heard many of the German made Bosch parts are still Chinese made, but the assembly process has much better QC practices.

  • which one did you go with

    • Bosch
