RV Hire USA

Has anyone in the past year hired an RV in the USA and can provide a recommendation?

The more you look at each of the big names, the more you find terrible reviews and recommendations for the other providers who also have bad reviews.

Currently the order of preference is as follows:

  1. Outdoorsy
  2. RvShare
  3. Cruise America

I suggest they get an RV that is bulletproof and has good acceleration.

Seems more risky just trying to enter the country. Might get locked up and thrown in a dark hole just because you don't answer a question properly.

Still Safer than Melbourne tho, lol

          • @Fredfloresjr: To be fair, Melbourne would compare more to Tijuana..

@Fredfloresjr: Is that you Dutton? Still scared of your shadow? Nothing gets between a Melbournian and a good restaurant.

That's going to be expensive with our dollar currently worth about 2 US cents.

This reminds me of one of my favourite T-shirts,
“paddle faster, I hear banjo music”.

There was one going cheap near Albuquerque, but I think it is now broken, badly.

We did this sometime ago and it was the insurance on the vehicle that was the killer.Do not skimp on this as if you are involved in an accident (and it is more than likely to be your fault driving on the right) litigation is rife in the US.
Lawyers will come after your Aussie assets. Take a tour or hire a more manageable car and stay in motels.

    I haven't.

First try to get into the place. They are rejecting people for all sorts of reasons. You will be wasting an airfare the way things are going.

  • The USA are, understandably, desperate for tourism and tourists to have a facade of normality again.

Not sure about all the negativity regarding entering (LEGALLY!) the USA.

Used to go to the USA a bit when I was younger. I always got the impression they were looking for a way to bounce people. I suspect it is much worse now. Why take the risk when there are better options for travel. Then you have to think where will you travel in an RV in a country that not only has many guns but has a judicial system that is marginal at best. The corker I saw was a place that was a combination wildlife park and rifle range.

Not in a hurry to go visit again but never felt intimidated about being rejected. Mind you all my paperwork was impeccable.

And certainly would not do RV'ing in USA.
Canada sounds far better and easier.
And the USA is just at a stone-throw for some "must see" places like in Utah and whereabouts.
        In and out. Hurriedly.

        • From what I’m hearing they aren’t keen on foreigners popping in from Canada and popping out again. That is raising red flags at the moment. Never been to Utah but went to Yosemite a few times, really lovely but Canada has places just as interesting. However, I do recommend New Orleans if this shit show ever ends. Dodgy as hell from a safety perspective but great food, music and architecture.

  • Such helpful folks🙄I will be there in September - October and was looking for some options also. Found this website which seems to be the most competeitive, but I haven't properly investigated a lot of options yet.

  • Not quite an RV adventure BUT..
We did a 6 week road trip in September/October 2023. 6500kms roundtrip from LA to Seattle and back (Alaska cruise booked ex Seattle), via Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Salt Lake City etc. I was suprised by the amount of RV's on the road and there were so many RV parks etc. It's a big deal over there.

We booked a regular SUV type car via Budget, pick up and return in LA, and just arranged 7 days parking in Seattle while we were on the cruise. We used a combination of motels booked via Wotif, and airbnb's. All last minute, end of the day type bookings. It was such an adventure and most days we had no idea where we were staying that night.

Have you considered relocating a motorhome? I've never done it, but I have friends who have. https://www.imoova.com/en/relocations?region=US
