Vodafone Started to Charge for 13xx Numbers

I found that all 365 day plans cannot call 13xx numbers now.

They removed the ability to quietly however the likes of Kogan mobile still have this enabled.

I found this out when I could not phone Virgin Australia, phoned Vodafone they advised they made a change. Food for thought.

Calling a 13 number, a 15 number, a 18 number or a 1800 number

Oh, that could be an issue for them if they have outright blocked it, because some essential services run off 13 and 1800 numbers.

    • Not necessarily disputing your claim, but which essential services?

        Domino's

        • Fair call

            @oscargamer: Just a few examples from NSW;

            Police it's 131 444.
            Crime stoppers is 1800 444 000
            NSW SES is 132 500
            Service NSW is 13 77 88
            Child protection hotline is 13 21 11
            Kids helpline is 1800 551 800
            Lifeline is 13 11 14
            The list goes on…

Almost every government department you would need to contact, Australia wide, has either a 13 number or a 1800 number.

Most of the electricity companies numbers, if you need call them in an emergency, are 1800 numbers. Internet providers are pretty much the same, 1800 numbers.

Oh, and dont forget, Lube Mobile on 13 30 32! (or as I affectionately know it as "ferteen ferty ferty tew" because of the guy with the lisp that sang the song.)

@pegaxs: Don't forget the reading and writing hotline, which is 1 3 double oh, 6 triple 5 oh 6.

            • -3

@pegaxs: Firstly, These (13 XX XX) are not 1300 numbers

1800 numbers are actually FREE calls so not affected

And given Kogan uses the Vodafone network and is merely an MVNO, then they would be bound by Vodafones policies and pricing.
Unless they are still under a price contract which includes 1300 numbers. In which case this will eventually change

        • "Domino's"
          Positive change then
          .

  • Anyone noticed that recently Vodafone does not apply speed limit after the included data runs out?

That is sneaky move. Unlucky for me, I just signed up on 365 days on voda.

    • usually there is an international mobile for those that cannot call 13xx numbers but its a pain to find them

      • You are right.
Very likely this will be my last year with Voda….

How do these guys constantly manage to shoot themselves in the foot for very little gain?

I found that all 365 day plans cannot call 13xx numbers now.

Cannot call them, or cannot call them for free?

Very bad but not sure which is worse, Optus without overseas SMS and rising prices or this. Could go back to Tesla but then pay through the roof for worse reception in the city.

  • +2

"Calls to 13 numbers are $0.20 per minute" so you must have to add credit to be able to ring 13 numbers

    • A Pay and Go plan includes initial credits ($35, $45, $55), unless OP used them all.

Vodafone Started to Charge for 13xx Numbers

That's so retro! I know 90s and 00s is back in fashion, but this is very extra.

Seriously Vodafone? This is the kind of crap we had to work around 25 years ago.

Googling for the number to call when overseas usually got you the one you could still call for free but not everyone provides that readily.

this is what you get when u sign up to Vodafail! the worst possible network and even worse service.. but they can make all their marketing so pretty & hyped up. best to move off any vodafail services… especially any of their MVNO. Why do you think they're advertising that they're doubling their coverage across Australia? Coz they have below standard coverage! they had this problem back in 2010, people signed up to their cheap plans, but you get what you paid for, they cannot compete with the likes of telstra or Optus or Telsrta/ optus' MVNO's!

    • you are ill informed. Vodafone sold their towers to Optus in exchange to use Optus regional towers. Vodafone now owns their own core network but the towers are maintained by optus. Optus coverage has also got better in areas where Vodafone was strong and Optus was not. In my opinion Vodafone selling their assets was a bad move, but Optus is 10x worse customer service. Optus and Vodafone now have the exact same coverage.
