Did Uniqlo and H&M collude to have the worst UX websites imaginable?

    • +5

It's for the iPad generation. They can't cope with more than one thing on their screen at a time.

      • In all seriousness, its sort of true. But less iPad but more iPhone.

The trend has been that customers have increasingly spent more time shopping on their phones rather than on PCs. From experience and not disclosing business info, retailer "A" is getting 60% traffic and 40% sales from mobile phones. There is an obvious shift over the years. This is not even a fast fashion business which is more skewed towards mobiles.

So it makes sense for a business to prioritise phone over desktop form factor when making investment decisions.

To be fair, the Japanese have been notorious for super unfriendly websites.

      • +15

That's actually a misunderstanding. Japanese websites are unfriendly to Western users who are used the the Western conventions of websites.

Japanese "style" websites mimic their cultural conventions/aesthetics of advertising which has shown to draw more engagement with Japanese people compared to western style sites. Some global companies actually have localised styles of their site for Japan that mimics the sites you and I would describe as "unfriendly".

That said, I don't think the Uniqlo website does this. I think it's actually just a terrible website.

    • +5

Yeah their website used to be fine, now it is awful.

    • I don't understand this comment. They have one the best UX designs to me. I'm curious which clothing retail websites you consider better?

      • +1

It does seem to have improved a bit since the initial redesign, where you couldn't get to subcategories without scrolling to the bottom and clicking the huge magnifying glass.

      • +4

The UX is clearly designed for mobile and not computer browser so you get some really strange experiences. It has gotten better slowly but there are things like:

        • Placement of home, search and profile button at the bottom. Breaks convention needlessly.
        • Buttons could have stayed in the top right corner but instead they have a language selection button there with only 1 language choice.
        • Apart from homepage, you have to click the search button at the very bottom of the page to open a drop down that comes from the very top of the page.
        • Home button at the bottom does the exact same thing as clicking on logo
        • If not logged in, the profile button takes you to an error page that directs you to the login page. Most sites, if you are not logged in, it will just tell you to login.
        • Worst is all the weird inconsistencies everywhere! e.g.t-shirt section there are male/female tabs but the tabs don't seem to exist for like Graphic Tee.
        • Certain pages have an extra search bar and some don't. Maybe there is a pattern to this but it's not obvious.
        • There have been times where I am browsing around and end up on a page but have no idea how I got there.

I personally think The Iconic have a more intuitive and consistent UX. The buttons are arguably more cluttered but you always know where to find them. TBF lots of these do come down to personal preference.

Great price, got 1x purple to ad to my collection of other colours haha. Thanks OP

  • Awesome price. The purple is a great colour. Added 2x to my collection!

  • Anyone able to help me with what sizing would be good for my 5ft7 partner to use as a baggy pyjama shirt?

    • +1

Defs either a XS or S imo. Perhaps you can order both and return one once you see it.

    • +1

I'm a muscular (~80 kg) 5'5 and S fits on me. Depending on how big your partner is M/L would be safe.

    • +1

      for my 5ft7 partner

I am around the same, I bought S here but baggy may be M is better.

    • Keep in mind these tend to shrink slightly after a few washes and in the dryer

    • +1

Personal preference but I would hate to sleep in polyester. Cotton ftw.

  • I grabbed the purple a few days ago at 14.95.

Is it easy to return with Uniqlo?

    • +1

I know at least that if you did pickup it's really easy.

    • +1

Yes easy return, but make sure they have stock to buy at $9.90

      • Just buy and return the new one for 14.95.

        • For some reason, last time when I tried to return the in store one with my online C&C T-shirt invoice, they knew and have to manually override it.

          • @superforever: It scanned up at the lower price. Happens all the time with Uniqlo.

            • @tyarrhea: They knew the one I return wasn't the same one I C&C but the barcode, product number the same.

          • @superforever: Yes, I had the same issue.

It looks like they store the tag id (RFID ?) with the receipt number in the system. So you need to return the item with the receipt that was associated with.

    • +1

It is if you go in person (assuming they have stock).

Online returns / refunds is quite tricky and you need to pay a fee to return items.

      • Online C&C and return in store.

  • Navy OOS

  • Might be better asked in the forums but since the comments will attract t-shirt people;

Who sells decent plain-colour tees that aren’t heavyweight yet aren’t flimsy? I’m slimming my wardrobe down to essentially jeans + 6 tees and want quality ones I can rely on. I’m getting spammed with ads on FB since I paused over an ASCOLOR ad and there just seems to be hundreds of lame brands reselling bulk sweatshop tees.

I won’t buy H&M as they’re poor quality nor UNIQLO as they always shrink on me.

Any suggestions? Max $30 a shirt.

    • +1

AS Colour classic tee. Use promo code THEDEAL

      • Noted - I have enjoyed an old ASCOLOUR merch tee that’s still in reasonable shape, but had read comments they’d lowered quality of late. Will check.

    • I think it depends on which Uniqlo tshirt you buy. I have put airism shirts in the wash and dryer many times and have not noticed any shrinking.

      • I haven’t had airism tees but recall a longsleeve cotton that went from standard fit to figure hugging!

  • Same. No shrinkage whatsoever.

  • Not sure why they call it cotton when it’s only 53% Cotton and 47% Polyester. I’m not a big fan of how the feel

  • If it says they have stock in a certain size in store does that mean it will be $9.90 in store?

    • yes, same price

    • Also sometime you may find some stock even online said NO

  • Does pricing vary from store to store? I walked into the Perth CBD store and nowhere did it indicate they were on special even though they were in stock but the website said "not available". Not sure how Uniqlo works

    • +1

owhere did it indicate they were on special even though they were in stock but the website said "not available". Not sure how Uniqlo works

Ask them to scan it to check the price and make sure the code are the same as the one on special because they may not exactly the same.
