  I price matched the cellular version at myer Canberra when target had 5% off - $645

  From my experience, it really depends on the seller.
  The Myer salesperson I talked to lied right to my face telling me $500 was the stock price and anything lower they'd lose money.

  Thank god for competition.

    Actually, the sales person would have been looking at our cost/profit data too see if they could do the deal, typically normal staff who haven't been there very long are reluctant to do any sort of markdown.

    I don't know exactly what model you were looking at (or at what store), but they would have said no, either because he didn't think he could do it, or wasn't looking at the right data.
    The other thing to keep in mind is that a lot of the time, apple's cost price is extremely close to the sale price, no-one actually makes much of a profit on ipads/ipods.

    You are right though, when you say it depends of the staff member. If one of the reps can't/won't do it, ask for a manager, generally they have more discretionary power, they can do prices that the normal staff can't.

  I have successfully price matched an oil heater, a few toys and a cordless phone at Myer in the last two years. So, my answer would be yes, they do price match. But I have seen that most of the price matching depends more on the sales person's keenness rather than the actual store policy. I suggest you try another store if one doesn't match. Or try the same store on a different day/time when the shifts change.

  Myer have a policy on price matching. Maybe call head office & ask for specifics. A sign in one if there stores states they do price match unless it is under cost. There is very very little margin on apple products so I'm not surprised if $500 is the cheapest u can get. A friend who works for Apple told me about the very little margin they get for each unit sold.

  My understanding is that Myer will match a price but not beat it so unless the Myer store is more convenient I would not use them.

  I bought an iPad4 16GB Wi-Fi mid January in Sydney CBD Myer and got the price match with BigW no problems.
