China Wholesale - Has Anyone Done Any Buying since The Tariffs Come into Effect

I have been seeing a lot online about products direct from China since all the Tarrifs with the USA came into effect.

Just wondering if anyone has any experiance with this and what sites, or apps were used.

It sounds like there could be some really good bargins, if you get know where to go and who to order from

DHGate and Taobao? These have always been the go-to ecommerce platforms for resellers.

    • Have you used these before, is the quality good on there or can it be a bit mixed?

These are marketplaces so you are dealing with all kinds of sellers, many of which are actually factories and manufacture the items after you paid for your orders. Mileage will vary depending on who you buy from.

I really want to know what people think we're importing from the US that they believe this stuff is going to impact us?

Tariffs impact the consumer of the country that is applying it.

It impacts the exporters of the countries that sent it.

Considering we arent tariffing the US (yet, or at no increased rate), then šŸ¤”

Your bottle of bourbon or new Dodge should be the same as it was whenever.

OP - what are you thinking? Mass product dumping? No evidence of that… yet.

I think he is saying they are losing a lot of US sales, so there could be bargains form unsold stock?

US has abolished "De Minimis", so even small orders get hit with substantial processing fees. That order that used to be US$12 from Aliexpress now arrives with a $30 bill for processing fees. The US is, or was, a massive proportion of China's exports.

    • "Your bottle of bourbon or new Dodge should be the same as it was whenever"
Bourbon probably, but the Dodge would likely have Chinese made components that are now more expensive so price of end product goes up regardless of where it is sold (to maintain profit margin)

Yes why would anything change besides the exchange rate? Tarrifs are a US customs tax paid by US citizens. Nothing changes for the sellers in China, other than potentially less US customers.

    • +4

Fewer US customers means lower demand and potentially lower prices.

Indeed. My suppliers have been more eager to provide better pricing. I'm loving it.

What are you being supplied with?

          • @tenpercent: Goods. I started a little side hustle a couple years ago and it has turned into a successful business. Years of networking paid off šŸ˜‰

            • @Clear: May I enquire what kind of goods / what niche?

              • @tenpercent: Electrical goods.

                • @Clear: why have you not posted your own deals here?

                  • @BuyoTheCat: I have been successful without the need for OzBargain. This community teaches a lot on what to do and what not to do in business.

It's not a tariff. It is a tax that is applied to both domestic and imported goods and services.

      One 'r' in tariff.

      • The second r was added did to the tariff increase. ;)

    • we call this tarriff on imports GST

The USA also had state and federal taxes applied at sale…. before all this went down.

The UK has VAT etc, most countries apply taxes at sale. So nothing new here. These taxes are applied equally to all companies regardless, unlike tariffs applied to a single country.

      • We also have an ā€œanti dumpingā€ policy, which is essentially a mechanism similar to a tariff.

We also have a luxury car tax, which is the same as a tariff

  • What have you been seeing alot online?

    Tariffs
    Tarrifs

That's the way, try all possible spellings, one of them must be right. Never can remember which it is myself.

Have I logged into USAbargain by mistake again?

    • +4

Yes didn't you hear. Slickdeals bought us out after Trump announced Australia as their 52nd state.

      • +4

53rd… I think we're behind Canada and Greenland.

no tariffs on ozbargain, try usabargain

  • sounds like there could be some really good bargins

Thought tariffs were supposed to add not subtract…

  • Keep seeing on tik tok and reels on insta saying basically you can get all the "name" brand stuff made in China directly from them instead of from name retailers, Which i dont think these things are directly affected by the tariffs but more looks like a FU to the USA. things like Lululemon, Nike and other things like that.

You do realise they are just manufacturers who are selling counterfeit products?

They are not the actual factory making LV/Prada etc, they are just making fakes.

It’s also been going on for years and years and made more mainstream recently with the access via dh gate etc

Basically what popcorn said. There are websites, WeChat accounts and even hidden AliExpress listings that'll sell you knock off designer clothing and bags that look like the real deal. Take a walk through Crown Casino and I guarantee most of the wannabe high rollers in the public gambling areas are wearing fake Louis Vuitton.
