Replacement for Reckon Personal Plus Accounting Software

I have been using Reckon Personal Plus for at least the last 30 odd years for keeping track of my finances. Last time I upgraded was 2018 when I moved everything to a new laptop.

Now I am upgrading to a new computer, and note that the cost of the software is now $220 and is only for a 12 month licence. I have not spoken to them as yet about transferring the 2018 version to the new computer. Everytime you move your software to a new computer you have to get a new code from them. I suspect it won't suit them to allow me to do this any more as they want to sell licences.

Can anyone suggest an alternative option, especially one where I could move all my current stuff over. Being a proprietry system it is almost impossible to convert their files to another format, e.g. csv file.

I would like to keep all my history as it enables me to find out when I purchased things, and I can create various reports on spending over different time periods etc.

Just using something like Excel to record all my spending etc, is a last resort option due to the fact that I am not skilled enough to produce reports or interrogate the data.

My accounting is simple, bank accounts, credit cards, spending etc. No shares, property, or other investments.

I would stress that this is not life or death for me, it is a "like to have" thing as I find it useful. If I have to make do with Excel, then so be it, but I feel certain there could be something out there that would work for me.

Money Dance ? $110 for lifetime with one upgrade; not sure if it has the all the functionality you need but it does all the base reports.

It wont automatically import from your bank account, not sure if that's a requirement ?

If reckon does QIF it should be easy to move; if not there's some older guidance on it : https://infinitekind.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200975473…

you can see if https://www.manager.io is suitable.. free software, seems to have decent features inc bank feeds

    another options is https://www.freeaccountingsoftware.com.au/

Maybe consider if you can close out the year with your current software and transition to something new for the 2026 year. You can create opening balances as at 1 july and go on from there.

  • I used MS money for 30 years, three ago I started using Moneydance. No subscription required. I didn't bother trying to transfer all the data from MS Money just started from scratch. If I want to look up an older transaction I look it up in MS Money which I kept on my PC. One of the things I like most about Moneydance is the ability to attach files to the transactions something that was lacking in MS money.

  • Price is what you pay, value is what you get.

I would have thought $220 is value considering all the fluffing around you need to do now to find a new product

    • Good point

  • If you want to stay with Reckon, there is a whirlpool page to convert to the free 2013 US version of Reckon (called Quicken).

Note: not sure if this is the case with the latest versions of Reckon, but you need some other way to upload bank files eg. convert csv into qfx file. Banks provide qif file but not qfx.

  • I found this in Moneydance Help files, howto export from Reckon Personal plus:
