get in touch with Boehringer Ingelheim. We did ~2yrs ago & they confirmed you can split the tablets for smaller dogs.

Nup they don’t recommend this as the medication cannot be ensured to be evenly distributed throughout the chew. It would be off label use.

Have you contacted them as well?

          Yes

I would guess thats true. Very hard to exactly divide. But given that a tablet of each size covers a large range of sizes. I doubt if there are dependent on being highly accurate doses. ( and note shauns prawn comment below)

eg your dog weighs 15kg they recommend medium, but for 15.1 they recommend large. And are your scales that accurate.

However its your loved one. The choice is yours.

      • I wonder, Is it their pharmacovigilance or marketing dept that don’t recommend halving? Or have you not contacted them?

      • Chicken Little over here.

      • Wrong.

homogeneity is very basic practice in pharmaceutical industry.

All of effective substances are blended well then mixing with carrier(starch etc.)

I wonder how it's manufactured, if the medication part is all mixed into the batch before the individual chews are formed, or are the chews formed first and the medication part is 'injected' individually to each chew. If it is all premixed first then the concentration should be the same throughout each chew. But if added individually it might not be evenly distributed throughout chew 🤷

        My two cents worth
In any medication manufacturing process, it is a legal requirement to ensure that the active ingredients are evenly distributed within the carrier (uniform contents). These uniformity tests must be conducted and documented. Additionally, these medications often have a wide range of dosages, such as for dogs weighing between 30.1 kg and 60 kg. In such cases, the medication is typically dosed to meet the minimum effective requirement for a 60 kg dog and the maximum requirement for a 30.1 kg dog.

        • Good points above. Human meds are made to a very high standard. I wonder if the same standards of good manufacturing practice apply to pet medications? Also, not all humans meds are able to be halved; not just the ones that are coated or slow release. Means that not all meds are evenly distributed, unless the manufacturer specifically aims to do so.

          • @janeymac: one tablet contains two activities ingredients which total 180mg, one tablet may around 7g=7000mg, cannot imaging the pharmacy manufacturer cannot evenly blended them well before extruding into tablets.

    • This is absolutely not true and I am very confident no one from BI gave you that advice. That conversation is fiction.

      @sjp1801 is correct.

  • Any stackable things with Amazon?

Usually I do the petcircle churn on new customer sign up and get it between $76-$79 but this is less effort and has the potential of being even better with a stackable 😅

  • Thank you, sir

Vetsupply regularly have deals on these, last lot I ordered of the extra large was $67.99 one before that was $73, this is a decent ‘deal’ but pretty much street price multiple times a year but if you need it now I’d grab it as doesn’t seem to be reduced elsewhere right now

Please post whenever you see these so I can stock up 😅

I wouldn't necessarily call a 31kg dog "very large". That's like labrador size. In my books, very large is like great dane, st. bernard etc. size.

    • My greyhound is 32kg and that’s not even a large greyhound

    • The packaging shows a Malamute and those guys are often 50kg+

      • ‘Does what is says on the tin’

      • The cut off point for very large dogs should be more like 40kg not 30.

  • Thank you I think I am nearing out the end of my current pack

  • Why can't I see the bargain? I clicked the deal link, went to amazon and got
'This item is only available from third-party sellers (see all offers).'

None of the offers are 50% off.

This would be an awesome deal for someone like me with three 60kg+ dogs

I just refreshed the page as I hadn't purchased yet… the price has increased
Deal is gone, its showing at $109 for me now

  • Bugger!

  • Petcircle has the small dog 12 pack for $153 and there's some discounts if you buy through their app or if you're a new customer which reduces further. This price is for auto delivery which can be cancelled anytime.

  • Awwww no I missed it.. :/

  • Anyone know a good deal on treatment with the worming? I over bought on Milbemax so don’t need one with worming.

  • Back in stock!
