  • I am guessing this has the usual KYC requirements. Anyone had an issues withdrawing or using this without getting the old 'you are not verified' BS?

    • So far I've given them my phone number and the text does not have the code, but forcing me to install the 'authy' 2fa app. Dodgy already.

      • +2

Authy is one of, if not THE, most widely used 2fa apps.
Far more secure of an option than using your mobile number for sms 2fa.
        You'll be fine.

      • +1

You can read about Authy here
        https://www.authy.com/

Most exchanges will require at least time based codes, Authy owned by Twilio does timebased codes and push codes to your mobile device.

        • Yeah I should have clarified - they asked for my phone number and then replied with a generic authy.com link - which is pretty disingenuous. I mean, sure - get me to add 2fa with an app. Don't ask for my phone number and then slap back with an app link.

Twilio is definitely legit. I don't have it yet (okta, google and MS - so far…) but I'm sure it was an inevitable download.

          Still. Just be honest ffs!

Also - while it's technically 'more secure' than text 2fa that's not why they do it. It's absolutely for cost reasons. As if anyone is going to ghost my SIM for $100!

edit: they sent me a 2fa code after a second attempt

        • Do you have to use Authy or can you use any Authenticator app like Microsoft Authenticator?

    Thanks Bro

  • easy money. thanks OP!!

  • Bought $100USD of crypto. No joy. Traded it back and forth, $89USD left after fees, traded approx $140USD through a few transactions.

    No referral bonus flagged.

Any ideas? Does it take a while for the Twins to verify the trades? OKX does this way better.

I think you need to wait 30 days to receive reward, can anyone confirm? I used ActiveTrader and the fees/losses from trading were less than $1.

      • Oh damn. I mean that makes a fair bit of sense. Still bloody annoying!

Yeah I'm so shit at this. And impatient. So I just bought and sold a few tokens and ate the fees.

I'll be ahead eventually and someone in here will score some free money.

      • Can you withdraw the initial $100USD of crypto that you purcase or do you need to leave it in for the 30 days to receive the bonus?

        • +2

I think it's probably ok to withdraw it, but I haven't checked the terms and conditions. It looks like you can also just put in a bit over $US10 and trade it 10 times to get your total trades above $100 (or $US5 * 20 trades, etc) if you only want to put in a small amount of money.

      • How did you add funds to ActiveTrader… I get this error when I have toggled to that mode.

"Sorry, you do not have sufficient funds available in your account to complete this order."

Do you need to do a wire transfer to their US bank account?

        • +3

I transferred in approx $AU50 worth of crypto and traded it 4 times (ie. sell $50 + buy $50 + sell $50 + buy $50 = $AU200 / $US128 total trades). Doing this only cost approx $1 in total fees and trading losses. Depositing cash or buying with cash looked too complicated/expensive as far as I could tell (needed wire transfer), so I didn't do it that way.

(edit: You might also be able to use the "simple" buy to buy $5 of crypto with a debit card, and then switch to ActiveTrader to trade it 20+ times to reach the $100 in trading volume)

I received an email for them today (approx 2 days after I joined up and did the trades) saying that I will be receiving the $50:
"You've achieved Recruit status. You've earned $50 in the crypto of your choice since you achieved Recruit status. You and your referrer will receive your rewards starting 30 days after you created an account."

          • @devilbabies: This is the way!

            • @krunchymoses: Which crypto did you transfer in and then buy and sell? Something like XLM or LTC a good option since it has low fees?

              • @Moo Deng: I bought XRP cause I didn't bother thinking it through and then tumbled it for a couple others including LTC. Should have been less impatient with it tbh.

Left it all in BTC in the end cause the alts are getting hammered and I need to wait out 30 days. Probably should have put it into USDT but meh.

  • Can you buy stable coin like USDT?

  • Yeah I just assumed it was gonna be easy as like OKX but it ain't. 32 days!

The reward will be credited to both accounts 32 days after the referred user’s sign-up date, provided the referred user trades at least 100 USD (or the equivalent in their local currency) within the first 30 days.

    • Okex use to be the same, my Signup with them was $100usd on a single trade.

      • OKX does it instantly though - these guys make you wait. Which is completely reasonable - free money on ozbargain brings out the real entitled (profanity) in me :-P

I just hope they don't play some switcharoo at the last minute.

        • Okex does now, gemini is now $75usd by referral.

  • Did these guys get most of their money back from the FTX (and peripheral) fallout a couple of years back?

  • Did everyone add their debit card or did you add an international bank account like Wise?

    • I just did my spending card which I only have a few hundred bucks on at a time. Bank account seemed a bridge too far but generally speaking it's been a legit onboarding. Identify verification was through an app and not a 'upload your licence trust me bro' portal.

  • Yep. Got the email this morning for myself and a recruit. Just takes a little time for the twins to sort it.

  • got confirmed for the referral bonus, easy money when it arrives. Just transfer crypto in and out is my suggestion - seemed to work well with SOL. nice and easy in the end.

  • Gemini is so annoying not accepting AUD deposits directly. Don’t do what I do and try to use Wise. Transferred money over to US Wise account and then tried to do a wire transfer, but there are three different types (wire transfer, ACH, and another option I think SWIFT). Tried the wire transfer option and Wise said it can’t send to that recipient. So had to transfer the money back and thought I would transfer to my Wise Australian account as it had lower fees than directly to my bank. But then they charge another fee to withdraw from Wise Aud to my bank account, so ended up being more expensive than a direct transfer.

So for anyone else out there I don’t suggest using Wise for this. Trying now with buying LTC from Swyftx.

Once the LTC has arrived at Gemini, can I just buy the LTC/USD pair? Or do I sell LTC and then buy USDT?

    • Brutal. Yeah, for the sake of convenience I just bought $100USD with my credit card.

    • +1

This is now $75usd, I'll update the post

  • Does anyone know if I can buy USDT instead? Does it count as the transaction?

  • Payment method verification is a pain, I found on my banking app the USD transactions when you convert from USD to AUD you must get that AUD figure and then round it down by 1c. That converted -1c figure enabled me to verify.

I think alternatively you can go into account settings and then convert your base currency to AUD.

  • Got the email about the increased from US$50 to 75 too. Should have waited ☹️

    • Yes, its now $75. Kinda crazy.
