  • Love a good Potenza, are they doing tyres for EV’s yet?

    • Been hunting for EV tyres too…

      • Yeah pretty crap tyres out there unless you want to get the OEM Conti's. Im a massive fan of the Potenza, have been rolling them for over 2 decades.

  • Which tyre is recommended for a 10+ year old Toyota Corolla?

Potenza RE003 or Turanza Serenity Plus?

Main priority is safety (especially in the wet) as there are young kids including a newborn in the car

      Potenza RE003

      • RE003 is a performance tyre. A 10 year old Corolla is not a performance car. I have RE003 on my weekender and don't drive it in the rain because RE003 are marginal at best in the wet.

Turanza serenity plus are great in all conditions and get great mileage out of them.

        • +1

(Even if) A 10 year second old Corolla is not a performance car.

Lol :), it is toyoto carol not a Mustang, GTI or Mercedes!

    • +4

I have Turanza on my car of similar age and would recommend. Good grip, quiet and long lasting (got over 50K and still going).

    • +2

RE003's are amazing, but for a Corolla maybe a tad overkill, go the Serenity, unless you're throwing your Corolla around the track (so to speak).

    • +3

^ as above. Turanza for everyday driving. RE003's for sportier/spirited driving.

      • agreed, the Turanza are great, long lasting quiet & good grip

      • But turns out Potenza RE003 are cheaper than Turanza on all platforms I checked (Bridgestone, Bob Jane etc.)

      • They might be cheaper but only last half as long

    • it's not worth bridgestones to be honest…

    • Can only speak for 003s, I daily on these tyres and they're fine. For me just fine in the wet.

Putting on quality performance tyres on a car isn't a waste in terms of safety.

That said check other manufacturers, can sometimes find better deals elsewhere. Continental pretty good all rounder these days for example.

As others have said, the Potenza is for performance so there's not much when it comes to comfort especially on your 10 year old Corolla. Get the Turanza Serenity Plus - you won't regret it. I bought a set of Turanza SP five years ago and I only recently bought a new set to replace them after 60,000km (tread indicators were also showing) - again, going with the Turanza SP. I swear by them now for daily driving - so much grip in the wet, so much grip in the dry, and road noise is much lower (compared to Michelin).

I drive on the motorway very often for work through all kinds of weather and can definitely vouch for these tyres.

      • My experience with the Tuzanza Serenity Plus has been less than ideal in the wet. A superior alternative would be the Dunlop SP Sport FM800, but they won't last as many kilometres because of the softer compound they use for better grip.

    Check the price at Costco.
Bridgestones rrp are outrageous and make the deal redundant.

    Costco pricing for
    195/50/15 re003
    $509.97 Fitted

    Bridgestone
    $655.20 fitted

    • Concur to this. If you are in Sydney, try Tempe tyre.

      • -1

Tempe tyre is great it’s pretty much my go to for years

    • +1

Came here to post this. Also worth noting Costco give lifetime tyre rotation.

      • Do you have to continue to be a member in order to make use of this?

        • I don't really know but my guess would be it's highly likely.

    • 195/50/15 re003

The RE003 has a pretty aggressive tread pattern. They would look so cute in these dimensions.

      • Budget track tyre for us little boys and girls!

        • NA MX5?

        • +1

Hankook RS4s are even better from my experience. RE003s don't last long.
Also some Yoko A050s for when you really want to go for the push lap. But they're $300 a corner hehe.

          • @sobriety22: Rs4 will be my next try, waiting for the buy 3 get 1 free deal.
I’m at the limit of the re003 imo.

            • +1

@Owgasm: It is their wear life that is the RS4s benefit, RS4s are 200TW, RE003s are 220TW so not a major improvement in grip.
Generally I go to private dealers for the Hankooks, got a set for $540 fitted earlier this year.
The other option is Sailun Atrezzo R01, also have run these before and are not bad and I was able to get them for $75 each unfitted.
Finally the NS2R options from Nankang. Come in Drift and Track specs with different treadwear, will get you more grip without splashing for AR-1s or Yokos.

  • Bridgestone RE003 has been sold in Australia since 2015, decent tyre but old model. RE004 has been sold in Asia since 2020.

    • any reason we don't get the RE004 here?

      • I think it's to do with cost. Cheaper to produce for an old model I guess.

  • Just bought a set of potenza sports for my fgx falcon. Even after purchasing a costco membership, my tyres came out over $100 cheaper than bridgestone or any other tyre fitters. Great price.

  • Pilotsports or these for a VE V8?

    • +1

      Wet or dry?
I find the Michelins have better wet grip while dry grip is about the same.

  • Wish it was on the Serenity Plus.
