Does anyone know how well do these work? I have Samsung and would love to use these?

    • +6

      These are amazing.

Just fyi. Make sure your Samsung is compatible with smartthings.

Some budget ones and old ones are not.

    • +3

Very well for me. Only issue is it occasionally beeps, but I think that might be me bumping the battery. In terms of actual tracking, it's helped me find my misplaced wallet and keys many times - well worth the price of admission for that alone.

      • +2

Re: beeping, Take the battery out and put it back in. It solved this problem for me.

    • Pretty well for me too. But you'd be locked in the ecosystem as it only works on Galaxy device, but still one of the best on the market for Android (Samsung).

    • +1

These work just as seamlessly as airtags in my experience. Note if you want the ultra wideband (UWB) close proximity finding, you'll need a Plus or Ultra model (from the S21 Plus onwards).

      • +1

Or a Galaxy Fold - I am sure the 5 has it, not sure about earlier ones.

    • They work fine. I haven't used them for travel yet though.

I have one on my keys, backpack, and car. The last will be for luggage when I travel. I get alerts pretty quickly when I'm >10m away from my devices (like my keys) when I'm not at home.

It can be a bit buggy sometimes, it sometimes tells me that the battery is low one week, then the next it is sufficient. The built in button can be useful to turn the lights on and off if you have smart devices.

    • its been great for me and has given peace of mind when I'm on the plane and i can see that my luggage is also.

Just be aware that these things can only bounce off other samsung devices (apple tags work the same) so if for some reason you're in a region where samsung isn't really a thing it would be harder for you to locate your things

    • +1

I travel regularly both domestic and international and personally find them a bit useless. It is accurate around the time the luggage is put into the plane but off-loading (i.e. when you are wondering where your luggage is) the location does not update very often at all. It is at best to give you the most general idea of the location of the luggage but nothing more than that. I.e. is the luggage at least in the same airport as me but not more accurate than that.

As the other comment said, it also is regional dependent. For example overseas in Brazil - nearly no one uses Samsung Galaxy devices so they are completeness useless there however you have better results in South Korea (the home of Samsung).

      • what is your model of your phone and does it have ultra wideband (UWB) ?

        • I have a samsung s24

    • I am not in the Samsung ecosystem. Got this working great though with my Motorola using uTag https://github.com/KieronQuinn/uTag

Great deal / price - thanks OP

    Standard Postage for me was $8.95 + $98 = $106.95

Bezos has his for $106.95 delivered if you have prime, saved me setting up an account with digidirect.

That's normal price on Logan, dicksmith, woollies Etc not a genuine discount?

    • Are those grey imports though? And do you mean Woolworths Marketplace?

      • +1

        They are imports

  • If I have a Google Pixel phone, but just want to put these in my kids school backpacks for approximate tracking, would they be useful or not?

    • Won't work on non-Samsung phones, even some Samsung phones aren't compatible.

      • +7

        Absolutely ridiculous

        • +5

Luckily Google Find My Device has opened the gates to Android wide trackers.

        • Replace Absolutely with iPhone users ;)

    • +3

According to a comment below, you can with this: https://github.com/KieronQuinn/uTag

The Moto tags work with pixels and are also the same form factor as the apple air tags so the air tag accessories will fit them. I believe the click to take a photo feature might be iffy on non moto devices but the device itself works fine.

  • +8

Woo , that's cheap. Don't forget you can use these with non-Samsung phones using uTag. Worked well tracking my wife's luggage through Egypt via my Pixel Pro 9 and Pixel 6A :)

    • Were these OK to put in the checked luggage ie are they OK to check in with the lithium ion batteries in them?

      • +2

Batteries are well under the capacity to be scrutinised. Think of a AA in your check-in.

    • damn, I wish I knew about this before we went and bought iTags - every time we want to track, we are going to have to drag out my wife's iPad and hotspot…

  • +3

Thanks OP, did the Officeworks price beat. Got free delivery with OnePass.

DigiDirect is $106.95 including delivery. So is Amazon.

    • Awesome! How do you pricebeat online and get the delivery linked with onepass please ? Id likd to do the same

      • I gave them my Officeworks account number.

I asked about it and they said they could do it.

        • Lovely, easy enough - thanks!

        • How did you ask? Did you call them?

  • I've never used anything like these before but have been interested in them. Is there anything major I need to know with them that might be an issue? It looks like they should work with my S23 except for precise location tracking since the S23 doesn't have UWB? Is there anything else I'm missing or is it worth taking the plunge on it?

    • They have a little speaker so you can still get them to ring when trying to find them nearby. For me they have been worthwhile to have in the car and on the keys.

      • +1

Oh, that makes it handy then! So if my phone doesn't have UWB and I can't get the accurate tracking, I can just make it ring? That works well then, thanks!

      • They're loud enough for you to find your car?

        • Loud enough to find the keys in the house if I misplace them. For the car, well, no, probably not. I just provided putting one in a car as an example use case.

  • How long do the batteries in these last from a full charge? We're going to Europe in a few weeks… these might be handy to put in our bags to keep track of them just in case…

    • +1

Also, can you even replace the batteries ?

    • +2

for mine it last maybe 10months. Batteries replaceable and easy to change (need a sim ejection tool)

    • +2

They last about 12 months depending on usage. They are easy to change.

  • also to note good guys commercial you can get this for $104 picked up if you are close to a GG shop.

    https://www.thegoodguyscommercial.com.au/samsung-smarttag2-4…

For those that want it more immediatly, and your local OW doesnt have stock.

  • Can I put this in the car and track it if it gets stolen?

    • +2

      Yes

    • +1

Yes, we have one in each car.

      • +4

Cool, now i need to buy 3 more cars to justify 4 pack

  • Are these compatibale with Samsung A16 phone?

  • -2

Useless product tbh. Doesn't update frequently even when doing manually.

    • +3

Mmmm many comments above suggests otherwise…?

    • +3

Doesn't work great if you leave it in apple showroom

  • Kogan also have them at same price - cheaper at $95 if you have Kogan First https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-smarttag2-4-pack-2-x-bl…

    • International model.

      • it can track internationally?

  • Managed to get it price matched at officeworks hunter st. Pretty pain free.

  • +1

    Thanks !

Got it for $93.10 delivered from OW

  • Are these work equally well as Apple air tags.?

    • Better than Apple

  • -1

For those who use android phones than Samsung, Chipolo ONE 4kp is $93.

Should give huge improvement in coverage due to lots more supporting devices around (including Samsung?)

  • +1

Thanks OP. ordered via OW price beat. I already have the chipolo but they dont support UWB so these should be better.

  • Stupid question. How do you get OW to price beat? Do you call your local shop?

    • Call the main Officeworks phone number or go in store.

      • +1

        Thank you. That worked perfectly.

        • No one answered my calls. How long did you end up waiting for? I might just have to go in store :(

          • @IamaCam: Not OP but I waited for about 3 minutes.

They close at 6pm AEDT so perhaps it was after hours?

            • @gaber: Damn, i called way before cloee time. Will try again tomorrow, thanks

          • @IamaCam: I called the main number and selected the price beat option and they answered within about 2 mins.

  • Does it need samsung phone nearby to track the location? Similar to airtag that needs apple device?

  • Which one works on all devicds?

    • None. Apple will never let that happen.

      • Only Apple jails the users. If Apple can fool, Samsung can with better products. Many other work on all devices, eg. Tile Pro, Chipolo ONE, …

        • Both have really poor reviews. They aren't genuine competitors for SmartTags or AirTags at this point.

          • @wombat81: Tile is the veteran & with subscription is better than Samsung/Apple (you pay Apple tax+holder anyway).
Chipolo ONE Point (with Android Find My Device) is also better than both.
Both are better, particulalry for those that don't have expensive newer iPhone/ Samsung, >80% users :)

            • @taki: They might be better "in theory" but I'm struggling to find anything positive about either of them. I'll pass.

  • -2

Had Samsung smart tags, but sorry they sucks. Still give out wrong location.

    • +1

I am having remorse on one I just bought.

  • +1

Used that CBA Yello "$20 back with $100 spend" at Coles to buy a Giftcard.

Then paid with the giftcard after price beating at Officeworks.

    • Is that confirmation that you had success when gift card purchase redirects you to giftcards.com.au?

      • I purchased from Coles instore. I got the "coles group" gift card that allows use at Officeworks

        • +1

          Thanks!

        • so you can pay for officeworks items using the "coles group" gift card?

can how much discount did you get using this method?

          • @pinkybrain: Yes correct. They price beat digiDirect down to a total of $93.10. With my CBA cashback of $20 per $100 spent…. that's an extra 20% off.

So in total it was $74.48 out of pocket for the 4x smart tags.

  • Do these use the Android find my X(phone, tag, etc) network?

I get they are good for finding stuff thats close, but what about further away?
    (like lost luggage, etc).

    • They use Samsung Smart Things. Yes, you can find anything with them. Any close by Samsung phone will ping them and give a location. Basically the same as Apple air tags.

  • -1

Bought one from amazon, some regret; when your bag gets moved, that thing doesn't alert you at all, and I have a recent Samsung phone too. I am still wondering whether to return it. Notify when left behind is on, notify when movement detected is on. A bit gimmicky.

  • -1

I am returning mine, thank goodness, I bought only one, it is useless. You would think when your bag gets moved you would get some alert, but nothing happens though “Notify when movement detected” was on. Search nearby: camera function doesn’t work. Tag was left in my car at shops parking, I was already in the car & it was still trying to find my car & battery is full and my phone is a Samsung a s23 Ultra, not an old model.

    • +2

You do realise how these work? There needs to be a Samsung device within range to be able to detect any movement. They don't have an in built GPS. You'd be paying much more for such a device.

  • -2

I know too well and more than you think. Do you think I did not do any research about it? No GPS, who doesn't know that? Movement not detected when being nearby, I should put up with that? Search nearby, camera not functioning, I should put up with that? I was in my car, it was still searching; I am in my car with my Samsung phone, what there should be a few Samsung phones around? Believe me, I know enough about tech, to know if an item is worth it. I think it's ok mainly to find your misplaced keys in the house.

  • The location pin is so bad, probably because less Samsung phones around now, that I now just use it to find my phone lol

    • Why would there be less Samsung phones around?

You realise it's not meant to provide real time tracking? It only pings every few minutes.

      • I tried to pin once, when I actually didn't realise the key was underneath my car seat. It still says the key at last location at home. Drove all the way back, just to find out its underneath my seat.. Useless piece of crap
