  • This or Sony Xm5?

    • +4

Get the box damaged xm4 for less than half the price

    • If you’ve got a Sonos soundbar and want to take advantage of the new integration at home, this could be worth a look.
But if you’re mainly after something for on-the-go use, I don’t really see why you’d choose this over the XM5. The biggest downside of the XM5 — not folding down compactly — is still an issue with the Sonos Ace too.

I prefer the slim design of Sonos and it's a no-brainer if you are in Sonos eco system.

      • I’ve owned both and would happily have either. If you own a Sonos sound bar or thinking about getting one go the Sonos for sure. I also prefer the aesthetic of the Sonos.

    • Different strokes, different folks.

i know Sonos makes really good speakers but do they make good headphones?

      • What if I told you neither was true?

    • I have both, and toggle between them each week or thereabouts.

I would say either are good and price you can get them for should be a factor.

The Sonys are easier to pack up each time into the case, the Sonos case is a tad tight and each time it feels like a chore to slide the adjusters so they fin in the case, it just seems more natural for the Sony XM5.

Sound wise they both do a great job, I find they both get hot on my ears, The batteries feel like they last about the same, I think the SONOS look a bit better but any they mark up less than my Sony.

      Both are great choices

    • Do you regularly fly on an aircraft? XM5 seconds from Sony, but you'll probably want to EQ.

Otherwise? Sennheiser Momentum 4 on sale. If it's not urgent, it seems there'll be some more interesting ANC releases later this year, perhaps mostly earphones though.

I personally wouldn't give Sonos a cent of my money after they way they have deliberately ruined both the apps functionality and bricked hardware to prevent it being used.

    • +2

I haven't been a customer of theirs, but tried to get a family member's speakers going (after the breaking changes to their app/s). Such a waste of my time. Stupidly, I tried again a few months later. This lovely, expensive gear remains unused and unusable to this day.

This is one of the worst headphones I've tried.

Got this cheaper with the previous deal and had to return it to JB hi-fi.

    • staff mention these headphones are the most returned product they encounter. It's common to see returns of this particular product

I guess I was one of those people. The connectivity issues with Bluetooth are well publicized, I took a punt and lost out. Spent hours troubleshooting only to have to return a defective product.

I suggest not taking a risk for a huge investment. Was a waste of time and energy for me

    • Sonos products are Good only when it is in working condition . Minute they disconnect from wifi or anything , you almost need a IT technician ( Troubleshoot ) to get it all working .

Even the cheap Bose QC SC gets a better score on RTINGS: https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/sonos-ace-vs…
Seems like a grossly overpriced product.

      • While you hit the right conclusion, that's not the way to come about it… RTings headphone reviews are good for making sure it's competent, doesn't speak to most aspects of audio quality.

I've had mine a while - they are OK. If you can get them sub 400 probably a good buy.

Sound is good, "lossless" bt support is impressive if you have the workflow/gear. Definitely get a bit "hotter" in the ear wearing them vs my old qc-35's.

I'd only get them if you are already deep in the sonos ecosystem - no real compelling reason to get them otherwise vs alternatives.

  • My house is full of Sonos stuff, as in, like ALOT of it. And I kind of wish that I didn't go down that route now, the last purchase was these headphones so I could easily pass audio to them from my soundbars.

I would say if you're in the ecosystem, and want to pass over audio, they are ok, if you only have ONE soundbar.
Otherwise, you need to constantly change the soundbar it's connected to in the settings, and that's a little annoying.

If you're just looking for a pair of nice headphones, then I would suggest looking elsewhere. I have a pair of Bose Quetcomfort 45's and I still find myself using those more so than the Sonos.
Would 100% recommend Sony's over these if you're just looking for nice headphones.

  • I purchased a pair of these a couple of months ago as I was after some decent headphones to use for watching TV and listening to music at home.

Like other members have already mentioned, they are great IF you are already invested in the Sonos ecosystem and would like these to complement your existing setup.

However, I would look at alternatives if you can't relate to the above.

  • So these are the cans that Sonos trashed their reputation over.

  • I'm writing this while wearing my pre-ordered Sonos Ace and listening to spotify via Bluetooth on the phone. I came from a pair of XM3s that I wore until they started falling apart.

I am already in the Sonos ecosystem so the soundbar connectivity was appealing, and is quite useful, I use it every night in the lounge room when the house has gone to sleep. That being said, my XM3s were also paired with the TV, it just took a few more clicks on the remote. I find the sound is quite balanced, the ANC is OK, the comfort for a big head like mine is great, better than the XM3s for extended wear periods. I have had no issues with them as headphones and I quite like the slim form that they pack down to, I carry them in my satchel when travelling, whereas the XM3s had to go in the carry-on. Bit annoyed that Sonos released them without Android compatability to link to the soundbar initially, but that was remedied pretty quickly.

$499 is an OK deal. <$400 would be their ideal price point to be competitive against Sony/Bose other offerings..

  • $463.42 at The Good Guys eBay with code APRIL6 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/116352090100

  • I picked these up in the last Qantas marketplace deal (under $300). They're fine headphones, but I would have been underwhelmed and considered returning them had I bought them at full price - even at this price I would probably give them a miss. I mainly got them as a lighter alternative to my AirPods Max for work.
