I have been on the lookout for an entry level road bike for quite some time. Appears to be good value & Costco has an excellent returns policy should it not meet expectations.

The Northrock SR1 700C Road Bike features Shimano Sora 18 Speed Drivetrain and Kenda 700c Road Tyres for better performance. Experience real road bike performance on the SR1 with an all aluminium lightweight frame and carbon fork to reduce bicycle weight and absorb vibrations. Whether tackling a climb or flying on the flats, performance enhancing Shimano Sora Drivetrain delivers speed and precision. A Shimano Cassette adds to the continuity of the Drivetrain while Shimano Sora STI Shifters with integrated brake levers provide control, inspiring confidence to perform at your best on the SR1. Finished with a Velo contoured road saddle and Kenda 700c performance road tyres, the SR1 is built for speed and reliability on the road.

    Quite entry indeed

Would be able to pick up a decent bike on fb marketplace for not much more

Agreed, on Gumtree you could get a brand name bike with Shimano 105 for the same price or less, especially with rim brakes. You'll likely be able to buy parts for it later down the line too, like derailer hangers etc.

      • I was thinking the same thing. I'd be checking what bottom bracket and derailleur hanger this needs, although I suspect for the cost of those plus a service it would be financially cheaper to bin it and get a new bike.

  • Sorry for dumb question. Does high end road bike likd Pinarello that cost >$10k ever been on sale? I know nothing about bike, but my brother wanted to buy 1 to be exported overseas, just wondering if it worth to wait a lil bit for some savings?

    • extremely rarely. Pinarello would not be offering sales, but perhaps bike shops with Pinarello stock would be prepared to discount their stock to clear it for newer stock. Giant/ Cannondale/ Canyon amongst other brands sometimes have sales, but brands like Pinarello/ Cervelo/ Colnago would never really have big sales

    • Bike shops do old model clearances every year. Like cars once the new model is out the previous model devalues hard. Meanwhile they wont bargain on the new model at all for a few months since someone else will pay full price.
Pinarello isnt as common as floor stock though, vs say Giant.
June in Australia has the financial year clearouts where many stores are keen to offer discounts.

i think this is good value for a new sora drivetrain bike with carbon fork - unclear whether the brake calipers are sora though??

if you are good at working on bikes then yes go second hand for much better value - especially going into winter - however this is good value for something new

be aware though the bike will probably come with skinny 23mm tyres i reckon and when paired with the aluminium frame and low budget wheels it will be a very harsh ride - so set aside another bit of cash for at least 28mm tyres

Looks like good value. Ticks the boxes for an entry-level road bike except for one huge problem:

No choice of frame size, and no frame dimensions given. (Am I missing something??)
Road bikes need to be fitted. Like a pair of shoes, it is no bargain otherwise.

      Frame: all-aluminum 6061. Frame size: 53.5 cm (medium). Fits most riders 1.7 m to 1.8 m (5 ft. 7 in. to 6 ft.

      • Where did you find that? Does not appear in search of linked page. How measured?
Nor is it sufficient, even if not hidden.
I guess you can always buy a new stem to adjust the reach, but change of handlebar height will be limited.

If you're not in a hurry to purchase, and happy to spend a bit more, it may be worth waiting to see if Decathlon have another sale on their Triban RC520 soon. Last Nov, they had this for $880. Combining this with 10% cashback from Topcashback plus the value of Decathlon rewards points, this came down to around $750. A much better bike with mainly 105 components.

    • I second this. 105 drivetrains are the best value for money in terms of an entry level road bike. Sora 9-speed is not going to last if eventually you are into the hobby of being a road cyclist.

  • 10.5kg, ouff. I bought a road bike with similar spec 2x9 sora for about $250 and it was under 10k. Over 10kg for rim brakes is pretty poor even for entry level.
