Noticed Gladiator II (2024) Movie Dropped to Rent for $4.99 Already. Is It a Bad Movie?

only a $2 saving from $6.99, and I only usually post new release rentals when they are $2.99, but it usually takes much longer for them to drop to $2.99.

Gladiator II is $4.99 to rent already.

I heard someone say it was the worst movie of 2024. which doesn't make sense when it's the same director as the first Gladiator movie with Russell Crowe which was a hit apparently.

question for anyone who has seen it, is it true it's that bad?

Its fairly good. No where near as good as the first one though…hard to make one better than the original in my view

      Its fairly good.

ok so you make it sound not painfully boring for 2 hours 30 mins.

hard to make one better than the original in my view

yeah someone said similar about "Den of thieves 2". not as good as original. seems to be a trend. maybe deliberate to ragebait and get more views.

I watch a lot of movies, so it was ok, but nothing special, whereas the first one I could watch over and over again…and have.

          ok thanks.

you honestly make Gladiator II sound watchable. maybe the person who said worst movie of 2024 got triggered politically by some message they saw in the movie or the fact Ridley Scott is an aethiest.

  • To rent? People "rent" digital movies?

for 99c yes and occasionally new releases for $2.99 if I don't want to wait longer (they usually go up to $4.99 after the first $2.99 sale anyway).

if you only sub month to month on and off and never a year, it can be a lot of pressure off not having to squeeze in more views in a month just to feel like you got your money's worth. if renting for 99c too it often does turn out to be cheaper than the average month stream cost split by views.

it isn't bad' the issue is it has no 'reason' for exisiting other then a cash grab piggy backing on one of the greatest movies of all time

it in 'many' ways rips off the orginal story but does everything worse or less interesting, bar Denzel the actors generally put in a average performance and the character motivations are at times weird

it isnt bad there are some good action sets and at moments it is nice to be back in the 'Rome' world but it never hits any of the highs the orginal movie did it doesnt even get close

it is a 6 out of 10 if you ask me when the orginal was a 10

ok good info thanks will consider it when price drops further.

thanks missed this part. gives me a better idea.

    thanks for the opinions.

maybe the director also didn't want to make the new one better than the original which was one of his best or something, or kind of hinting people to go watch the original.

also kind of off genre and not really a A24 fan, but I'm really looking forward to watching Friendship (2024). the trailer is just so cooked. 😋😂 https://youtu.be/cmSPwZIZu6Y

  • Wish I had known Gladiator 2 retroactively changes Lucius's backstory from Gladiator 1.
It nagged at the back of my mind the whole movie, knowing something was off but not what.

      retroactively changes Lucius's backstory

would that be a problem if you didn't remember the story from the first movie? all I remember is the very very end.

      • It's still enjoyable, plus I had to rewatch G1 to find what was missing. Enjoyable too.

  • Yes.

yes it was bad, could be worst movie of 2024. ok thanks for your opinion. 🙏

  • No.

  • Maybe!

  • Price isn’t always indicative of quality.

  • Gladiator II has grossed $172.4 million in the United States and Canada, and $289.7 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $462.2 million. Taking into account the film's estimated $250 million budget, Gladiator II’s global total of $462 million means it may not be as profitable as expected. It also falls short of the original film’s total earnings.

    • Cinemas take an average of 50% from tickets (less early on, more later when interest dwindles). So that $462M gross is likely to turn up as $230M in Hollywood. And film budgets don't include advertising, so add tens of millions more.

The movie lost money, but then again, it's Hollywood. I wouldn't trust any figures they release.

It's garbage mate, don't waste your time. It's doesn't hold a candle to the first film.

  • Is It a Bad Movie?

    I have not seen it.

    Yes it is Bad.

Well it came out in 2024, so almost guaranteed to be trash.

  • ok I think some bugs going on at Apple at the moment.

for those who are bargain hunting rentals. new releases seem to be randomly be added to rent for a much lower price by accident. technically a price error i guess.
so I think this is what happened for a short time with Gladiator 2.

so I was about to post the new release Small things like these, which was $3.99 to rent last night. but checking now it's $24.99 which is the usual price for movies just released and become available (well sometimes $29.99 or $19.99 to rent but in general).

so yeah keep a close eye on rentals which haven't become available yet, or are "buy" only still. when they get added you might get a bug that makes it less than the average rental (average for most movies like non new release movies like the original "Gladiator" are usually $4.99 to rent).

    • $24.99 to rent a film?!

      Are people paying that?

I can go to the cinema for less.

No wonder some people miss Video Ezy or Blockbuster.

      • Are people paying that?

not likely. but some movies come to stream at the same time as in cinemas, so they get some people I guess because it's more convenient to stay on your couch and tap rent then get to the cinema.

I always add upcoming/new release movies to my list, and so I have a long list of new releases which I just watch delayed compared to everyone else. eventually they have a decent amount of them drop to $2.99 at the same time. can't remember what it's called but one of the "sales" is called Movie mania or something like that. bunch of new releases drop to $2.99. the ones that don't get many views also drop to 99c. they do this on a regular basis not sure how often maybe over 4 times a year they put the oldest new release rentals on sale.

fyi renting is not my main way of watching movies. usually chunks of the list get added to streaming services over time, and I just sub a month to watch them all to get my money's worth. if you have an iPad the Apple TV app is a handy way of checking where it is. sometimes it gets it wrong so I use Justwatch to confirm.

two streaming services i don't like is Binge, which adds the trailer and fixes it through the backend to appear like "it's available to stream if you sub now!" and Netflix which denies the integration alltogether. they seem to still think they are the no.1 service which is above every other service. 🤔
