Cheapest Way Get Rid of Cat

So, we don't want the cat any more. Can't take care of it and it's never really been a "pet", just a resident that eats. The ridiculous rigmarole you have to go through just to get back a cat-free house that doesn't stink of cat turds is bloody crazy. Plus, it costs ten times more than the thing was ever worth.

Anybody know of a group or club or whatever that will come and pick up a cat and take it away, gratis? Come to think, I'd even pay a coupla bucks.

I can recall my old grandad dealing with this sort of problem way back. He would take unwanted kittens down to the river and chuck them in… Nowadays you'd be charged, fined, imprisoned, executed, and buried in an unmarked grave if you did that. Absurd world.

You sound like you've never really been a pet "owner". You've just fed it and got bored. Now your want to get rid of it?

What should society do with bad pet owners?

Ughhh there you go. Absurd world of people who'd kill humans to save an animal smh…..

        • +3

Animal abuse is often an early sign of something more sinister.
So it's not to "save an animal", but rather to save society from evil.

          You give me creepy vibes.

          • +1

@Ughhh: Not in that article but in the HCR-20, a forensic risk assessment, previous incidents of animal cruelty is assessed in the historical component.

      • +5

Doesn’t sound like you can’t take care of it but rather choose not to. Keep telling yourself lies and you might believe it one day.

      • +1

Who's they dumb animal who got it originally?

        • -1

Yep, me. But not dumb enough to keep the damn thing when I can't look after it.

          • @Moi Too: So take responsibility for your actions. You chose to get it. Take it to a shelter.

  • +1

    just a resident that eats.

Were you expecting the cat to do chores around the house?

    • +1

Well, Moi Too only sometimes does the laundry, so perhaps the cat wasn't lifting its weight.

      • +1

But if the cat doesn’t wear clothes, should it be responsible for doing laundry?

  • -1

    Anybody else?

    • +7

Your grandfather sounded like a real specimen of a human. 1 billion sperm and he was the best one

      • -4

Gunnar, everyone did that sort of thing back then.

  • +5

    Surrender to RSPCA/pet rescue place

    • -7

I looked into that. You have to fill out a looooong form explaining your actions and justifying everything, plus pay a damn fee, plus take the animal to the boonies just to hand it over. I'm buggered if I'd driving X Kms and paying money just to solve what could be a very easy problem……

      • +11

I hope you don't have children.

        • -2

What a stupid thing to say!!! And a dead giveaway. You think animals are as valuable as children? Figures..

          • +1

            @Moi Too: Decent ragebait

If it’s such an easy problem, why haven’t you solved it yet?

        • -1

"easy problem" means that I could easily knock it on the head and dump it in the wheelie bin. Is that what you're suggesting I do?

Best to think before you post, mate.

          • +1

@Moi Too: So why don't you do that? Don't be a p*ssy about it /s

Edit: For those with reading comprehension disabilities, this is a joke. I am not suggesting the OP should do that. On the contrary OP shouldn't do it.

      • +1

Why did you get a cat in the first place? It's called responsibility. There's a reason shelters are overrun with strays and dumped pets. Of course you should pay a fee to contribute to rehoming. Next time think before you get a pet. They're not disposable just because you cbf taking care of it any more.

        • -1

Thank you for you wise advice and life instruction. Unfortunately you missed the entire point of the thread in your noble self-righteous rush to lecture a man who's very probably 50 years older than you and knows all about "responsibility".

          • +1

@Moi Too: Well if you're actually one foot in the grave and still haven't learn any life lessons, then it was a waste of oxygen letting you get this far. The cat is better off without you.

            • -1

@niyiaw: Jesus! The vicious hatred of some people! Have you always been like that?

No, don't answer. I think I know your type.

  • +2

Cheapest would be to simply leave it behind when you make the move. It would also be cruel to both the cat and the wildlife.

Surrender your cat to the RSPCA or a similar organisation.

Advertise a free cat in the Classifieds on Ozbargain, Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree.

LOL!! My "deleted version" was not deleted, sunshine. I edited it to add the word "and". Viz, "and buried in an etc etc".

Jesus, can I get a rational response on this thread, please? Anyone?

  • Always see people on gumtree listing their cat/dog for adoption

    • -1

Gumtree eh. I'll try there. Ta.

  • You’ll realise fast that a 'resident that eats' was the only thing saving you from a rodent infestation. Once the cat’s gone, so is your peace, and good luck getting those tenants to leave.

    • An animal that gets fed every day doesn't need to eat rats, I would think.

    • I don't have a cat or a rodent infestation.

  • Dim Sims yum yum

    This has to be ragebait

  • Nowadays you'd be charged, fined, imprisoned, executed, and buried in an unmarked grave if you did that. Absurd world.

Sounds like these should still apply still today to pet owners. A pet is like a kid, you have elected to have it, look after it.

    • -1

OK, so "Jimmy F wants to EXECUTE people who give cats away.

Thanks, "Jimmy F, now we know ALL about you.

      • Should be a 2 for 1.

You and the cat, get some kind of a discount.

        Sounds fair.

This is literally the most (profanity) up post I’ve ever read on ozbargain and boy has there been some shit on here before.

    • True, "Pelicann". I've seen some of your stuff…

Jesus, these people with nothing better to do than look up other people's forum posts!

  • What would you think would be a fair thing if you were a Cat?
