Although I have not had any battery issues yet. Have adaptive charging on and charge wirelessly overnight entered my IMEI and was eligible.
Went through the process and was approved and will receive $714AUD payment from Google through Payoneer.

If you have a Pixel 7a its worthwhile to go through the process in case you have future battery issues

LOL. Not sure why you think existing owners of a product getting reimbursed almost the full cost of a product 2 years after purchase is a bad deal.

      • -3

Buy a pixel then, go on.

        • +1

Did I hurt the cult of motorola fans feelings or something?

    • +2

It's not too late to delete this

      • -3

        Oh yeah haha my bad.

  • +2

Good way to buy something else to get rid of the live bomb in your pocket.

The Pixel 7 series in general was a miss, but happy with the 8 Pro (worth noting I got it 75% off, not worth original price).

    • +5

Pro 7 is decent. Just 7a with issue

      • There was certainly a multitude of 7 Pros coming back for repair that would say otherwise lol, maybe you got a lucky batch or they an unlucky.

e.g. with Pixel 2XL I didn't get any of the common issues people were complaining about

      • Also interested in 7 Pro issues - mine has been fine for the years that I've had it (aside from the March update that had weird video brightness issues, but that seems to be fixed with the April update now)

        • My Pixel 7 Pro battery swelled and popped the screen up a few weeks ago 😔

          • @adrianyep: Same thing happened to me (and the pixel 3a I had)

Google replaced the 7pro with another one, I think was just in warranty

          • +2

@adrianyep: From what I remember Google is pretty generous with replacing phones that have swollen batteries even outside warranty so you could give it a shot.

          • @adrianyep: Yikes! Is that a known issue?

        • Having issues just on the 2 year mark (thankfully Google covering warranty) with the pixel 7 pro phone randomly turning off in pocket … known issue that has only just appeared - no broken glass etc.

        • My 7 pro motherboard fried a couple of months outside of warranty.

    • +1

Hahaha good old Google. They also made a Tensor chip that was so weak it didnt have the processing power to run the face unlock AI on the Pixel 6 series. Something literally every phone in that price bracket could do years before.

      • They also made a Tensor chip.

Yeah but it was more just a bastardised Samsung Exynos chip. Apparently the Pixel 10 Pro releasing this year will have a true Google SoC - let's see how that goes. I'm betting it's not going to be a challenger to the Apple or SD Elite chips.

    • +3

My P7 has been rock solid since day one, and I'll hold onto it until P10 or the next major upgrade.

    • +1

My pixel 7 has no issues yet, it's quiet a decent phone.

    • care to share how you managed to get the 8 pro 75% off?

      • Not intended for the general public, GRT (Retail Training) for Google but could sign up with my personal email - just needed a referrer/sales rep.

Limited giveaways, but wonder if I could still access it

  • +1

i know theyre not the only company to have hardware issues, but why does it seem like google in particular are so bad at making phones?

    • -1

Samsung Note 7 literally got recalled twice and then discontinued for exploding batteries…

    • Yeah my Pixel 9 screen died after just 6 months. It was my second pixel to have faulty screen. Insisted on replacement under warranty and sold it. Never buying a Pixel again.

      • +1

Who did you get it from originally and did they actually replace it? My Pixel 9 pro is starting to have some sort of bright line on the screen at the top, and I'm worried it's going to shit itself soon. Bought it from JB HiFi.

        • Yep mine was exactly the same, it'll shit itself soon. Got it from Vodafone but coz their policy seemed to focus on repair, went direct to Google and insisted on replacement. Even got them to agree to send the replacement before receiving the faulty unit back. Let me know if you need screenshots or anything. Good luck!

          • @Ryballs: how did you got google to agree to send the replacement before receiving the faulty one?

            • +1

@softkun123: I told them I can't send the phone before receiving the replacement as I need it for work.

          • @Ryballs: I tried hard to send the replacement before faulty unit …. but google guy kept on saying the replacement process would be you sending your device back to us first.

It might be whom you speak with.

Is it possible to share screenshots of chat?

    why is this tagged "Pets"?

    • Fixed up the tag

    $714AUD

The poor Aussie Dollar finally works out for us.

    • +48

Existing eligible owners receiving almost the full cost of the phone back even if they have not had any battery issues.

2 year ago i paid $729 for the phone and received a bonus $150 JB gift card
I am now getting a $714 payment from google and get to keep the phone.

      Seems decent to me

This one post saved me $714. You've saved me nothing with any of your posts.

        • +1

cool opinion bro, thank god the community doesn't agree with you purists

      • That's a bargain

  • +10

    Thanks for spreading awareness

  • Heh. I'm not eligible as I had my phone replaced last week due to issues.

  • +1

Holy crap thank you! Our spare phone (that we have used like twice so idk if there's issues) is a 7a so this is an awesome little win!!

  • +4

Just did mine and it says “ Our records indicate your device is not impacted by a known battery issue.”
    I guess that’s a good thing.

    • +4

Out of curiosity did you try both IMEI numbers? Being a dual SIM phone

      • +1

Did you try your other IMEI number for a second refund? Maybe wait until you get the first refund in your bank.

  • Man where is my reimbursement for the Pixel 6 Pro?

    • My pixel 6 blew up like a balloon and all I got was a replacement pixel 6 (was out of warranty so I'll take it) but hey totally would've taken a near full refund.

      • Got one too how did you claim ?

        • Same thing happened to me. Went on the support chat, they asked for some pictures, then they sent a new one. Must have plenty of stock lying around that they're just happy to flog off.

  • +4

    Thanks OP,
My 7a is just under 2 years old and battery has started to swell in the last 2 weeks, was going to contact support but this is way better than getting a refurbished phone.

  • +2

    Is proof of purchase required?

    • +2

No, they just checked it against my google account presumably

    • -1

      This is modern ozbargain.

The word bargain has lost its meaning. I've also seen it being used to promote free movies

      • This is a bargain. And that's a bargain too. womp womp we will continue to upvote posts deemed a bargain by the community and not by the pedantic purity minority.

    • It's a bargain
We get the money back by surprise
      Possibly with a profit

    • +1

While I sort of agree with you, the vast majority don't even check the forum recap underneath the email.
      aka They won't see it

  • +1

Did you actually send your device for replacement battery or they just checked the IMEI and gave you refund

    • +7

No, my device is still working you don't have to return it

  • +3

is it worth buying cheap 7a from market place to get this ?

    • -2

Thats my thought, most people could be talked into giving you the IMEI of the phone to "check it"

      • Needs to be linked to your google account, but not certain.

    • Hey man did it work with multiple phones?

  • -5

Surely the 8A at $650 that comes on special now and then is a better deal. Or am i missing something? I grabbed one and hasn't missed a beat and ticks all the boxes I need for a basic daily phone.

    • +4

Not sure if you read the post but it's almost a full refund for battery issues relating to the 7a, not a deal for the 7a

      • Oh, my bad. Quick look and read it wrong. Good deal if had issues then.

  • -3

My wife's Pixel 7 has to be one of the worst Google phones. We've been through the OG Nexus devices and Pixel 3. Pixel 7 though has had issues with mic, battery life and worst of all the picture quality is horrendous. I know this deal is for 7a.

  • -2

Do they offer google store credit for AU?

    if so how much?

    • From the android police article

"If your Pixel 7a is in warranty but mail-in and walk-in repair options are not available in your region, you can claim a one-time payment of $456. Google explicitly notes that this option is not available in the US and India"

This is USD which is what I got from them so presumably there are no mail-in / walk-in options in australia so you get the payment straight to your bank account

  • my pixel 7 pro is having battery issues, nothing for that?

  • I've had a 7a with battery swelling.

What did you have to do with the existing phone?

    • +1

Can either keep it or dispose of it yourself

    • I bought a battery off eBay and replaced it myself. Easier than I expected.

  • Nice one, my 7a is not eligible but it was worth it to try. Particularly as I got the phone for $474 brand new.

  • If your phone is eligible do you have to return the phone for the cash payout?

    • No you keep it or dispose of it yourself

  • +3

Just completed the form. Suggests up to 3 weeks to respond. How long did it take for you?

    • +2

1 day, received approval email and link to Payoneer to create account to process the payment to my bank.
Says it will take 10 to 18 days to receive the payment, hopefully will not take that long

  • +3

I had the same issue and was not aware of this scheme. I reported it on April 9th, and I received the refund deposited to my bank account on the 22nd.

    My refund was $759.

  • +3

Thanks so much for sharing….looks like my phone qualifies, well they said my case will be reviewed within 3 weeks, but they mentioned the dollar amount.

  • Only for 7a?

  • +7

    Amazing.

Also screw the negs, if something saves me money or puts money in my pocket, its a deal.

  • +7

Thanks. I wouldn't have known about this if you didn't post it.

For some reason it couldn't detect the email account associated with this phone. Not sure if that's why it said I had to wait 3 weeks for an agent?

  • +2

Wow, and I got my 7a through the commercial pricing too. This is a major deal

With how they handled this Im definitely going to go with another pixel. A lot of other companies with muck you around with a battery replacement program

  • +1

Big ups for this one, big help for a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't have known, thanks

  • +1

So you can buy 7a at Amazon for $519 and get appeasement for $714?

  • +2

I have a 7 wish Google has similar thing for 7

  • +2

The question is, are they verifying IMEIs that aren’t linked to your google account manually, or letting them through? Hmm

    • +1

Yeah i would like to know as well

    • I was signed into wrong Gmail account when checking… It said IMEI wasn't associated with that Gmail… Had to switch to the correct Gmail account for that IMEI. Otherwise it said had to answer more questions… But I just switched to the right account..

  • Thanks so much OP! I did it on my wife's phone and fingers crossed it gets approved. Did get something about unable to detect email associated with phone or something like that but we'll see what happens!

  • Thanks for sharing. My Dell laptop also has the swelling battery issues, but Dell refuse to do anything because out of warranty.
