My last pair of black dress shoes for work were Stacy Adams by Florsheim (which many of these are). The rubber soles under the front part of my foot lasted less than 6 months before getting a hole right through. My previous dress shoes of another brand, with similar sole thickness and used in exactly the same manner, lasted nearly 2 years. I personally was disappointed with the quality of the sole of the Stacy Adams shoes. This is just my personal experience with one pair of their shoes. Hopefully they are not all like that.

  • I went to try some of the imperials on at David Jones then purchase online, i was dissapointed to see made in China or India on them, i thought the Imperials were made in Italy. I was over constantly buying Chinese made leather shoes from Windsor Smith, Julius Marlow etc for over $150, so i ended up getting Loakes (Handmade in England) for not too much more. But i cant hold this against them maybe they are made in china with better quality rubber.

well, for $60 for a set of leather lace-ups, that's the 16 year old's school shoes sorted. I am sure he will destroy them a term and a half in with kicking footballs/tin cans etc but chances are he will outgrow them as quickly as he can destroy them so rather than have an expensive pair of half destroyed clarks shoes that dont fit anymore I'll try these out for half the cost. Thanks OP!!

The Florsheim Imperials and Royal Imperials are solid value for money - the latter is better constructed and made in Europe, the former will be made in China/India and workmanship won't be quite the same, they're usually made from the same materials. I have pretty much the same pair of brogues in both Imperials and Royal Imperials and that's what I noticed when I compared the two. The RIs in particular were very good value for money (bought them both at 60% off I think).

I wouldn't bother with the rest of the Florsheims, a bit rubbish for wearing regularly to work (perfectly fine for above poster's son!). Unfortunately there are very few RIs or Imperials on sale…

I find most rubber/wood sole shoes whther they cost $50-$250 wear out in 6-12 months depending on how much you wear. They just not made to last long and once the sole goes the shoes is useless.

The only sole ive found last the longest is julius marlo - crystal sole. Got 1 1/2 year out of my lst pair and thats with wearing em 5, 6 days a week.

    • Thanks for the heads up. I'm looking for a pair of shoes that wears well. This is good news too:
"Their famous Crystal Sole outlasts other dress shoes by 75% and provides comfortable flexibility, durability and resistance to slipping as you move through your day. Other benefits like extra wide fit for greater comfort, a removable innersole making it orthotic friendly and full grain leather for breathability and lightness help make the Julius Marlow shoe a key piece in any wardrobe."

Do all Julius Marlow shoes have the Crystal Sole?

  • will this code work in store as well?
