Dyson Not Honouring Their Own Promotion Codes?!

TL;DR Dyson discount code SAVE550 is not applying on cart despite being advertised in their promo, on product page in web & mobile, social media, & first page of Google results on 'SAVE550'. Dyson support put me on hold for 10 minutes to try to work out what to do, promised call back, hasn't happened. So it's an unobtainable deal.

Our Dyson V11 vacuum recently broke with the plastic trigger not working (a common fault - they break in half). I bought a replacement trigger & tried to repair it myself as it's out of warranty (purchased in 2019) however we couldn't get it to reliably work.

Knowing that lately I'd seen a discount for the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine Complete vacuum on socials and on their website at around the $1000 mark, I went back onto their site today to purchase one. The last few days it was straight discounted to $1099 but now they required you to add a code 'SAVE550' as advertised on their page to bring it down from $1649 to $1099.

You can see this for yourself - on the product page there's a pop-up at the bottom advertising it. Google 'SAVE550' you can see over a page of results and different promotional links that lead to the same product.

Problem is the SAVE550 code doesn't work at checkout. So I rang customer service and the customer support agent couldn't get it working either. And even though they can see the promotion themselves on their pages, they aren't given permission to process my order. So they've promised to call me back but it's been nearly 5 hours now and no response.

What a clusterfck. The only reason I have decided to stay with Dyson is I already had multi-tools and even though it breaks down after five years, when it works it was effective. But given these systems are designed to fail and even their website doesn't work, what's the point anymore?

EDIT: I just got a call to manually process the order on phone. So I guess there's that.

  • They probably added the promo banner before activating the code in the backend. Really stupid there is no error message as to what the issue is.

Looks like Dyson sucks in all the wrong ways.

    Dyson V15s Detect Submarine - $1069
Use code APRIL6 if you have ebay plus for another 6% off.

Why even bother with their website?
Their ebay store is cheaper, i bought the gen5detect this weekend from it for $939

    • Appreciate the heads-up re. Ebay promo. I wanted the Complete pack which is exclusive to Dyson website as t further includes the Fluffy Optic (for hard floors), Floor Dock. So for extra $30 it's worth it IMHO.

It is unfortunate that only Dyson website sells these 'Complete' packs as dealing with their website is evidently a nightmare.

    • Why even bother with their website?

When Dyson have a sale on and you can stack with a decent cashback you can save a lot. For example I got the Dyson Gen5Detect Complete direct from Dyson for $695 after cashback last Black Friday.

      • i Specifically meant now not in general.
Normally their eBay and website are the same price but not this time for the gen5detect i bought.

    purchased in 2019

6 years should still be servicable under ACL claim considering ATO says to depreciate a vacuum cleaner over 10 years and Choice says an average cordless stick vac should last 5 years (your Dyson could be considered a more premium product - at the time - so should last longer).

Alternatively if the motor has burnt out ;) your house contents insurance might cover it

    • Ooh appreciate this advice! Cheers.

  • /rant I really dislike Dyson products, I've always found cheap Aldi stuff to be better. /end rant

Anyway, I just got an email saying "We know you've had your Dyson machine for a while… Use the code below to enjoy $100 off. Valid for 30 days from the date of issue. code = 00WC1L8J".

It might be a scam, I don't know, but I'm not going to use it either way, so I'm just leaving it here for anyone that wants to try.
(Mods please don't ban me for leaving this here, I just couldn't find a better place for it. <3 )

  • "You can see this for yourself " at which URL? www.gogle.com.au?

    • Google 'Dyson SAVE550'

      • Referd me to this page when I searched "Google 'Dyson SAVE550'"

  • A friend told me recently just to get the ryobi vacuums hand held from bunnings using the ryobi power tools batteries and they are just as strong and much cheaper in the long run.
