Even at this discounted price I could not recommend. Plenty of good whisky at the $200 mark.

Would love to start a wiki/forum for it, i know its subjective but i am willing to give more a try who has liked it at this mark. i keep going to r/scotch but too much info there.

      Some of my recent favs.

longmorn 18 (albeit a little hard to find these days)
      ardbeg 10

      • +3

Longmorn 18 is an absolutely gorgeous whisky.

It is highly regarded by blenders and I guarantee you would find it inside a bottle of JW Blue anyway.

I am sitting on a bottle for a special occasion

        • cant find stock of Longmorn 18 anywhere?

          • @Omarko: yeah, check almost every other day, but don't seam to find any :(

            • @turtleCatcher: Pernod Ricard released it under their "Secret Speyside" bottling in 2019, making that specific expression hard to find.

        • Crazy, I've lived next to Longmorn distillery and never tried it. I'll have to give it a crack!

      • I'm a fan of whiskey from tassie.

Overeem, Hobart Brewing Co, Remnant, Battery Point Distillery, Killara.

        • Lark? I tried that recently.. I liked it a lot!

          • @Shaun Prawn: Lark is good, but there are better whiskeys in my opinion. Definitely give them a crack.

    • Japanese whiskey is far better, this just has the marketing hype.

    • Yeah same… i got this back in 2016 from duty free for around $180 but we enjoyed the everyday whiskey more than this…

    • Most overrated whiskey of all time.
Give it 10 years and they'll slap on a $400 price tag.

    Congrats brah

Not best price ever but acceptable for something with mass appeal or yall wanna flex at the Viet wedding on a budget.

Johnny blue is a classic example of when perception of a product is influenced by price and not quality.

  • +1

overrated? so sweet for a whisky

  • +3

I bought Johnnie Walker blue when I was 18 to feel fancy.

    Waste of money.

    • +24

I bought an 18 year old when I was feeling blue.

      Excellent value for money.

      • +4

Everything aged 18 years seems to cure the blues!

  • +1

Hmm im a huge fan. Must say its a good deal 😉 however also don't deny that at $200 mark choices are plenty. However this is consistently good over the years.

  • +3

I still have half a bottle of blue from 15 years ago. Not even close to being worth the money, so many better whiskies in the +$150 range. I think last time I had some the wife used as a mixer for a cocktail.

    • I have one unopened from over 25yrs ago and still have no desire to open it!

  • The days this was in the $120 price range

  • +5

One of the worst value for money Whiskies in my opinion.. plenty of good whiskies under the $200 mark.. Ardberg 10, Lagavulin 16,

    • Lag 16 coming up in price and will be over $200 soon

    • +1

Laga 16 is horrendous value for money

  • For $200, you can get a much better whiskey. This is from Tassie and is delicious.

    https://overeemwhisky.com/shop/sd-009-bourbon-cask-matured-d…

for example. I prefer a sweeter and non peaty whiskey, but either way its much better than Johnny Blue.

  • I'd rather 3-4 bottles of Glenlivet 12 over this. Nonetheless a deal if you're on the hunt for a JW blue

    • The glenlivet founders edition is such a lovely whiskey for the price too

  • I rate Starward two fold higher than this, $65 at Dan's

  • $248.88 for WA

Despite the naysayers, it is worth buying once to try it and you probably won’t get much cheaper than this. You can’t diss it until you’ve tried it.

Drink it side-by-side with a Johnny Walker Black, and you will see the difference, and nod wisely that it was worth the money.

Then again, one day I made the mistake of drinking this side-by-side with a $100 bottle of single malt scotch. I much preferred the $100 bottle. Lesson learned.

    • it is worth buying once to try it and you probably won’t get much cheaper than this.

You could also just buy a nip at a bar and save yourself $170 if you really want to try it.

    • +1

there is nothing wrong with it as a drink, it is just not worth the money when there are so many exceptional options once you get in that $150+ bracket. Personally I also prefer single malts now but have a few good blends mainly for visitors that prefer them. To me it is like the Japanese whiskies, plenty of them I love, but once the prices went stupid on them they are just not worth the money any more.

    • I found Cardhu 12 very similar to JW Blue. There's a few more notes in the blue but I couldn't justify paying the significant difference

    • Maybe 5 or 6 years ago a mate opened a bottle of Blue with me. He received it as a gift and neither of us were regular scotch drinkers. We ended up getting through the whole bottle during the night and it was a lot of fun. These days I'm trying lots of new things so would be interesting to compare and maybe I'd think less of it, but maybe this scotch is a good simple intro.

  • This is normal sales price in costco, sometime it went do to around $170 but you can have for $203 now in store if you or your friend has costco card.

  • Congrats and all the best mate!

  • Best of luck to OP with the nuptials but this is an interesting post.

Have never seen the content of an OP post skew the voting so much before - this already has more votes than most sub $200 posts for JWBL. Given its regularly around this price, has been on Amazon at this for weeks, and at times 200 or less, this objectively isn't a great bargain.

two hundred bucks for this crud?

a fool and his money are soon parted.

  • Alcohols are so expensive in Australia

    • good whisky is expensive everywhere not just Australia. Hell even in Scotland a cruise up the golden mile can be a heavy tax on the wallet.

  • This is not a drink i enjoy..quite the opposite.

A simple single malt, a humble glen livett even their 12 yo tastes miles better. Soon as you step up into a 15yo .. about the 80-150 range you ate cheering.

Nlended whiskey, oile this blue is jjst starihjt paint thinners to me.

Nlended whiskey, oile this blue is jjst starihjt paint thinners to me.

Musta had some before ya started there mate :)

  • If someone is still looking for JW Blue Label, I suggest buying 1L from Dan Murphy. It comes to $271 after $50 discount and cheaper than this deal.

If you can buy Dans gift cards cheaper (5% discount), this comes close to $255 for 1L

  • I had one bottle long time ago, and when I had it
    It was just ordinary
    So it’s all marketing
Or too much expectations as I spent so much

You need a friend or two, or your partner
    Nice talks and mood
Even the cheapest whiskey will taste heavenly

    • What kind of poem is this?
