    Can someone in the know tell me what this doesn't have or do vs the better brands that appear on ozb for $150-$200?

    • Quick

      • quick cooking

        • It does have a "Quick Cooking / Steam" mode shown in the images at the bottom left in the 3x3 grid of 6 mode icons.
          It also features "Fuzzy Logic /AI".

          It does not appear to be a true pressure cooker though.
          Pressure cooking is said to provide:
          * quicker more even/uniform cooking of the grains (less likelihood of undercooked centres or overcooked edges)
          * enhanced flavour/aroma
          * better nutrient retention
          * can better soften tougher grains.

          It is also not induction based.
          Induction based cookers typically offer:
          * more even heating since they heat the entire inner pot directly (not just the bottom with an element)
          * more precise / responsive temperature adjustments which is good for more delicate grains and to minimise burning
          * gentle and more controlled heat distribution for improved texture of the cooked rice

    • As you spend more you can get things like fuzzy logic (Zoji), induction heating, pressure cook settings etc. I have this one, it gets the job done, but my upgradeitis makes me want a Zojirushi or a Cuckoo.

        I'm an enabler so I'm going to essentially double-down your own upgraditis, I can say that the Cuckoo I have that has pressure cooking has earned a spot on my counter permanently, not just for cooking rice/grains but one-pot meals and quick soups.
        Marrion (from Marrion's kitchen YT) has a great one pot chicken rice meal that cooks up a treat in mine for example.

        Having said all that, if you already have a instapot (or similar) then that would work just as well, but not as good at doing steamed rice to then get a nicer texture for fried rice (for example) but the instapot would give you more than passable results for rice regardless.

        To OP, one with the pressure cooker function is where I would advocate for, then it's more useful more broadly, unless you have an existing pressure cooker.

        • I am both grateful for and annoyed by this comment, haha. Now I want to buy an expensive rice cooker again. Do you find the pressure cooker setting useful? I'm on the fence about whether that's a good addition or a bit of a gimmick.

  • Maybe a silly question, 10 cups meaning you can add up to 10 cups of raw rice or it can cook up to 10 cups of cooked rice? Thanks

    • -2

      Cooked

    • Means you can ad 10 cups of raw rice, so would be maybe double of cooked rice.

      I don't have this model but they almost certainly mean raw rice and by "cup" they probably mean a rice cooker cup which is typically ~180ml (not 250ml or whatever other cup you might be thinking of).

  • Did any one notice the power consumption? 750kW!!!
