Can You Use This SCA Washer Fluid in The Tesla Y?

My dad’s Tesla Y is showing a low washer fluid, he just bought this for $5 and going to mixing with whatsoever it had in the car. (This will be his first top up)

Is this product ok to be mixed with whatever is in there originally?

I wouldnt risk it. The tesla is likely to ha e sensors in it that will notify HQ that youre using non Tesla accessories and will disable your fart noise generator.

    • Thanks, will take note for future Telstra purchase.

You most likely will need to replace it with 'Musk Washer Fluid' so you don't void warranty…

      Yes, ordering now!

    • which is just his tears in bottled form

      • 😲

  • +2

Yes, and you can also use SCA anti-freeze in the Tesla's radiator, SCA automatic transmission fluid in its gearbox, SCA differential oil in its diff, and SCA fuel injector cleaner in its petrol tank.

    • Don't forget to keep a set of SCA jumper leads in the boot too…

        Is OP this guy?

His dad might be real unhappy if the wrong wiper fluid is used.

  • +1

    Yeh nah

  • +6

I would just cover the windscreen in Star Wars stickers to avoid future similar issues. FFS.

    • +1

NEED to know if that actually went ahead hahaha

    • $6000 is not a price he is willing to pay

      • Your son or your dad?

It's a car, being a Tesla does not make it any different.

    • +3

Wash your mouth out. How dare you even consider that a Tesla is 'just a car'. The Xitter bots will be affer you now.

  • +8

Here's an easy answer - YES

    • Can you dumb it down a notch?

This question is perfect evidence of poor literacy and numeracy skills in this country!

    Wow..that's cheap
Get a few more bottles and do the blinkers while you're at it .

  • From Tesla:

    CAUTION
Use only ethanol-based windshield washer fluid meant for automotive vehicles. Using other substances, such as untreated water, can result in bacterial growth within the climate control system resulting in odor or potential damage that is not covered by warranty.
    CAUTION
Do not add formulated washer fluids that contain water repellent or bug wash. These fluids can cause streaking, smearing, and squeaking or other noises.

    From SCA:

    Product Info
Keep your vision crystal clear when driving with SCA Ready to Use Windscreen Washer Fluid. Add some of this powerful solution to your washer fluid reservoir and watch as stubborn bugs and road grime just melt away, removing annoying obstructions from your vision and keeping your exterior glass neat and tidy. This no smear formulation also helps displace water, with a hydrophobic effect that allows your wipers to shift water more efficiently off your glass even in heavy rain. As well as delivering fantastic results in wetter weather, the lubricating property of this solution helps to keep your windscreen rubbers healthy through the drier months to save you time and money replacing wipers in periods of little rain. This pre-mixed 5L pack is perfect for the busy motorist, just open…

    Looks like its fine?

Any washer liquid contain Isopropyl alcohol will work.

But only bottles sold on the far right of the shelf will be accepted by Tesla’s

    • Yes, the liquid must have papers to attest to its purity.

  • -2

Don’t risk it. I highly recommend pay Tesla to update to the latest software first to reduce likelihood of glitches.

We just use water… But you're not alone OP. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BJZ3e8yx3/

  • +1

Make sure you don't drive it in acidic rain either.

    • When hailing golf balls is okay?

  • I just ran a bottle of the SCA stuff through my car and it's rubbish. It leaves white water marks all over the windscreen.

I'll go back to mixing demineralized water with washer concentrate.

  • Join some FB groups and search for what others have asked or suggested.

Some bottled water + few drops of dishwasher liquid should be fine for any car.

    • +4

I wouldn't use dishwasher liquid but you do you

      • Probably looking for a colour upgrade.

  • +2

A real answer… the old and new fluids may be incompatible.
I had a problem once, when an auto service mechanic topped up one of our vehicles.
The new wiper fluid gelled with the existing wiper fluid and blocked up the lines to the nozzles. I think they finished up changing all the lines.
So if you want to change fluids, first of all you should empty the reservoir, put in clean water and empty that through the front and rear nozzles, and then you should be OK to put the new fluid in.
PS I now top up the windscreen wiper reservoir on cars before they are serviced, so this never happens again.

  • I’ve only used water mixed with vinegar and a bit of soap all the time and never had any problems.

  • I use this and it’s been fine. Haven’t had any issues.

      What model Tesla?

      • Model Y

        • +1

          Which firmware?

          • +5

@Flutterby: I'm still on v12.6 which supports 3rd party washer fluids. I'm waiting for a jailbreak for the upcoming versions before I upgrade it.

            • @lazybones1987: Left hand drive version? Heard it supports a bigger range of 3rd party fluids.

Toyota bumper fluid works well in the LHD market.

        • Would it work in a Model 3 as well or just Y

  • If you've got any type of ceramic coating on the car, my detailer advises honestly just fill up with water and don't bother with concentrate..

My concentrate actually ended up on the outer A pillars and left water spots. Nowhere else on the car so assuming it was from that. (heavily diluted of course. But still).

I'll be flushing the fluid in mine soon and just filling with water. Car is garaged and I wash it regularly so I rarely need the wind wiper fluid to do any real cleaning.

  • -2

Well there's the first problem! Bought a Tesla

  • I use this 500ml concentrate, which I got for $10, but I don't have a Tesla

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08HYDWTV4

    • I use that same product and price on Model Y. No issues, works fine. Service peeps didn't say anything.

  • Tesla is quiet picky in washer fluid specs. My pick was Audi anti freeze washer fluid which meets Tesla’s requirements

    • @MS Paint

    • 'Picky on specs' for washer fluid is BS. Its washer fluid. Theres a little pump that sprays it on the windscreen and the wipers wipe it off. Every other car does the same - with the same gear made from the same materials.

  • It's fine unless you use the fluid whilst driving the Tesla up a curve/curb/kerb. Such a great thread.

(It's great to see the OP's Tesla saga is evolving though)

  • Since the fluids are showing low.
Make aure to get SCA engine oil and top that up

  • Mate its a car. THere is no specific kind of washer fluid for specific cars…. Water works just fine! I use it from the hose.

Special ethanol washer fluid is only required in places where the weather goes below freezing, because then you dont want it to freeze.

Water out of the hose on its own works fine. Can leave water marks if you leave somewhere with hard water. THese kind of additions can help, or use distilled water

  • Buys expensive vehicle

Proceeds to use cheapest washer fluid

    Hmmmmmm
