VEU Program Replacing Heat Pump.Experience?

Hi guys,

Recently had a guy come into my restaurant to have a look at replacing 2 of my hot water pumps with their split hot water system (Chromagen Midea 300L). Told me it would be $400 ($200 per tank) but would kickback to me in cash, so basically no cost to me. Under the VEU scheme.

Seems like a bit of a red flag…heard some horror stories of these free upgrade schemes using crap products which rust and fail within a few years and that after sale service is basically non existent, so if there is a problem, you basically have to spend money to fix it yourself.

Any advise? Experiences? Have reviews of this particular unit?

    Any advise?

    Classic ozbargain.

  • Make sure you check the reviews, especially for Chromagen after sales problems when thing go wrong.

  • How did you find the company? Or did they find you? Check their reviews and the reviews of the product. Ask them about other product options they can provide. (Hint: if they don’t offer anything else, that’s a red flag).

Also look into how long the company has been around / been approved for the VEU process. Many scammers will only exist for a few years, then close up shop and reopen under a new name (to avoid fixing the inevitable problems with their shoddy work).

I know a bunch of people that have had good experiences with this and other VEU schemes, but you do need to shop around to find the right places and not the companies that are just in it for themselves.

There’s a few Facebook groups that might be useful, such as My Efficient Electric Home (MEEH), but some users on there can be quite rude so that’s worth keeping in mind before you go there. (A good tip for that group is to use the search function before posting questions, as it may have already been recently asked)
