It’s some light hearted Aussie sarcasm bro iykyk

Open the card and see if there is 16 digit code before purchasing. If they don't let you do it, forget about it. Not worth the risk.

    • +1

Current generation of apple cards have good anti-tamper. You have to tear open a tab just to scan it at the checkout, there's no code visible without destroying the packaging

        how recent is your info?

cuz 2 month ago when I tried to buy Apple GC from one of the bigger Coles in NSW, all of the GC has been sliced open and glued back —- even the $30 ones. the whole shelf is compromised.

        • This is what happened to me. The cards were opened meticulously and 3 digits on the reverse had been scratched out so that you couldn’t redeem the card. The silver strip that you peel off had been replaced. It was a work of art.

    • This doesn’t help anymore. They modify the reverse side of the card underneath the silver strip so that you cannot redeem the card. The cards were sliced open somehow and you could not detect that they had been tampered with. It was meticulously done. It was a nightmare getting them refunded from Woolworths. So never again, the stress was not worth 10%.

Bought one $100 from Coles and found it been scratched after opening the case, no help from Apple or Coles after spending couple hours with their customer services.

  • Bought $100 Apple GC this year from Coles. Outside looked ok, seal normal. Inside had a different card value $200 with last 2 digits scratched out. Took 3 months and a reminder before Coles agreed to a refund.

My coles now has a new design Apple gift cards where you have to tear off a big strip on the back of the package to expose the barcode before it can be scanned for activation. MUCH easier to now detect if they have been tampered with.

    • +1

No. It is still not safe.

      • Considering Apple have gone to the trouble of re-designing the cards I'm sure they have put some thought in to it as to how best minimise the issue and wouldn't have bothered if it would have only a negligible effect.

Nothing is really safe. I've had the issue before with the old cards, and while it's a pain Apple did resolve it for me. I've not had any issues with the new design but will be really interested to see how many reports we get/see of the new ones having similar issues.

No idea why would they focus on the gift card itself….

How hard to check last 4 digits card numbers that you purchase with before you can redeem gift card ? and when code not match 3 times Apple refund you and void that GC plain simple solution. They can temper whatever they want but never in a chance to redeem once.

Yes, but I bought $4K worth in the last Woolworths deal and it was the Redemption Code on the other side of the card that had been tampered with; they scratched off the last 3 characters so that you couldn’t redeem it. I don’t know how they do it; the silver strip had been replaced meticulously. It was a nightmare getting the cards refunded. So the outside of the package looks like it hadn’t been tampered with but the card inside, on the other side of the barcode, was. I hope this helps someone.

I purchased a few of the newly designed Apple Gift Cards last month, and a staff member at Coles mentioned that these new cards are more secure. According to them, each card number is now associated with a specific Coles store, and only that store can activate the card. If any issue is found with one card, the entire batch is supposed to be deactivated and replaced.

I’m not sure if this is entirely accurate, just passing on what I was told.

  • Hard pass on these bonus point deals ever again for me unfortunately. Despite the comments from last Woolworths deal about the risk of dodgy cards thought won’t happen to me. Bought enough for a new iPad through education store and half of them didn’t work - Woolies say not their problem and still working through Apple dispute >3 weeks later like it’s the first time it’s ever happened to them. Meanwhile have watched the new iPad deals come on better through every other retailer…

  • I used to do these gift card deals all the time (bought whole ass laptops, iPhones etc with them) but I don't think I would risk it any more

Buyers beware: the new cards can still be tampered with!

2 of the cards I bought have the strip intact but when I opened it, the voucher code has been scratched off.

Luckily I was redeeming them while still in store so the cashier gave me an immediate refund. She said that most likely people use a stanley knife to cut the bottom of the gift card to take the card out, get the code & scratch it out, and then put the card back it and glue the bottom back together.

Remember to check the card immediately before leaving the store!

  • my local Coles has started only selling Apple gift cards behind the service desk, much less risk of tampering

  • Any risk of using this gift card in Apple education store?

Also Im not a student, but planning to buy from there and get it delivered.

    • No risk.

Your only risk is tampered card from coles store.

      • Thanks! I mean will Apple cancel the order if they found out I'm not a student? Then what happens to the gift cards after purchase?

        • I’ve ordered plenty of things from the Education store (not a student) for delivery and never had an issue or been asked for ID prior to delivery.

I’d imagine if there was ever an issue the amount would be credited back to your account.

  • Thanks OP. Purchased 3. The cashier tore the strip each one and scanned. Had not seen this before and I realised that the last purchase was several $$$ from Amazon (virtual cards). Got them home and tried to scan the barcode to no avail. Then opened up the pack and saw there was the traditional card with its strip which I dutifully ripped off and instantly identified by the camera. All good

  • Had no issues purchasing some of these in Coles yesterday! I redeemed them while in-store incase I had any issues, but it worked fine.

  • went to buy some today and the staff said “I wouldn’t buy these if I were you - they are being declined”

I have purchased 5 cards yesterday worth $1500 flybuy was scanned but still dont see the points added to the flybuy account online. Does anyone know how long it takes for the points to reflect ?

    • +1

Same thing. Points werent added in my flybuys yet

    • +1

I got the 20x points deal with Google Play gift cards with Coles last month. Same thing. I sent an email to them with receipts and Flybuys details after a week. They didn't reply but I finally got my points 2 weeks after that. So about 3 weeks for me.

      • Thats riducolous of Coles and Flybuys as have done this at woolworths before and they credit the points immediately…hoping that i will not have to followup and wait that long to get the points now :(

        • I bought ours day1 (wed14) and you made me look - mine are there but cant tell you when they were added
