  • 50k bonus points… meh.
Suppose it is a low annual fee and spend requirement.

  • just got auto approved in about 2 mins

Lucky you. Can never seemed to get approval from Amex.

      • i had been rejected the last 3 times i applied for their other cards, only difference i can think of was on this application i asked for the smallest limit (2,000)

    • How many cards do you churn per year out of curiosity?

      • +1

5/6 probably - will be less now since most banks are moving to 24 month exclusion periods :(

Just saw this, not a bad offer for AMEX given its velocity points essentially 100,000 AMEX points.

Although no one will get it due to their sh1tty anti churning policy.

I understand it's annoying but serious question - Why would they not reject churners?

If you ran a business would you want customers who are highly likely to lose you money?

      • Yeah, banks can very much lose money on churners.
Given AMEX has the highest fees it's strange that they don't want more business.

But yeah i get that they want to minimise costs to them bit crap.

Ive been denied by AMEX 3 x in the past 6 months. I usually churn many cards. Excellent credit rating, mortgages, great salary.
Just applied for this card - 2k limit. Automatically approved. HAPPY DAYS!

  • Amex loves rejecting churners..

Even though I hadn't had a card with them since end 2019 they knocked me back a few months ago, to what I can only suspect is my churning history.

    • Same boat :(

    • +1

give this a shot with the 2k limit… i was reject last 3 amex applications but for some reason got auto approved for this card

      • I did it with a 2k limit and they still knocked me back months ago , it was for another of their cards. The wild west at the moment

Don't forget the referral system (second last in the list). Same offer for you, but 5/10k points for a fellow OzBargainer.

  • Available to new American Express Card Members only.

All amex cards from all banks?

    • -1

Since when does the big 4 offer Amex card?

    • Most banks stopped issuing companion AmEx cards in mid 2017 because the RBA capped the interchange fees to make it uneconomical to supply AmEx.

I've currently got one of the grandfathered $0 annual fee Velocity Escape cards. AmEx have been bombarding me with Spend $1000 and get 15 000/20 000 bonus points offers to "upgrade" to this card.
I think I'll be keeping the fee free option as long as possible.

St Geo now wants to know the size of my rectum. Is this a better option?

For the churners, I just got approved for this card with the minimum limit. I used to have the Amex explorer card which I closed in April 2022. I was rejected multiple times since last year for other Amex cards. There is hope!

  • Regular card churner here, last approved card was in March 2025 (Citi). I applied for this after reading about the success of other churners and can confirm also I got approved instantly. I’ve been rejected by AmEx several times over the past couple years (I always request the lowest limit and did so this time as well).

    • Can you tell me how the card churning work. Do you basically sign up for this, crank out the $1000 spend then cancel your card once you get the points.

Rinse and repeat on whatever other offers come up?

      • Generally speaking, yep! Sometimes I keep the card longer if there's nothing worthwhile to apply for (most banks have a 18-24 month wait period now before you're eligible for bonus points again).

        • And it doesn't mess with your credit score or anything?

          Spose I better do this

          • @mecusherb: In my experience, no, but YMMV.

            • @I like cats: I clunked out on a Commbank card over a decade ago. So not even sure I'll qualify for this but I suppose I would like the velocity points. Especially considering there were flights to Japan for 52,000 points the other day.

  • Have applied and not declined, will see what the outcome is over the next week

  • Just Called through and they said I wasn’t approved a letter will come in the mail I’m 7 days… only applied for the $2k card

  • just got my physical card in the mail today - smooth process

  • Just got declined due to financial status for a $2k card, first decline I’ve received for a credit card in years

    • What do you mean by “financial status”?

      • they said I couldn’t afford it which is wrong, only credit card that has declined me

  • Was rejected couple months ago for the American Express Velocity Platinum Card, dont know why as my expenses and salary is usually fine.

Applied for this with the minimum credit limit and instantly approved. Quite a low reward card but will use for 12 months with the 2k limit and get my bonus points and spend points.

  • This card has quite low minimum income requirements.
My wife works casual and makes under $30k, applied and approved for a minimum limit.

Please use referrals when applying like I did (second from the end), someone will enjoy their bonus points, costs nothing for you but a click.

  • Wow I got approved too, amex declined me a month ago.
I used the referral link to sign up. Please use it also if you're signing up

  • I have been declined by Amex (frequent Churner) several times over the last 5 years. Got approved for this. Spent a 1000 on day one and the bonus points are visible in my amex account a few days later.
