      They seem to be a flame retardant/plasticizer used to help with their pliability, flexibility, and elasticity.
      I'd say its a common thing (prob common to every tent except canvas), but because its Costco and prob being sold somewhere that has strict laws which you need to state this info at point of sale to avoid fines etc.

  Thanks OP! I have a 10-man and a 3-man tent, and at the moment we're not camping much. However once a year at my kids school we have a camp-out on the oval where the 10-man is a huge pain to set up for <12hrs, and the 3-man is too small for us now they've grown. I was going to grab something second hand but for $109 delivered this was a bargain, and job done!

  Now I just need some of those thin (but not too thin) roll out matt things for the kids to sleep on. I got rid of the stretchers we had because they were also massive. Will see if Costco comes through for us before October :-)
