nbn FTTP Gets 250 Max but HFC Can Get up to 1000 with Spintel?

Hello

I have a question that I don't think has been answered.

My parents in law recently upgraded to FTTP from FTTN and I have HFC at home. We looked at Spintel plans, for whatever reason, if you have FTTP it seems to limit plans up to 250 whereas because I have HFC I can get the 1000 plan…

This doesn't make sense to me at all… I thought going to FTTP means you could get speeds up to 1000? There was so much digging and cabling for the FTTP upgrade… disappointing to hear if it is only maxed out at 250…does anyone know why?

FTTP and HFC are both capable of 1000Mbps download. 2000Mbps come September.

Spintel may not have enough capacity in certain areas. Check Buddy Telco, Leaptel or Superloop for 1000Mbps.

Digging or no digging varies by home. At my friends the installer put the fibre through the existing conduit pipe and no digging.

      Plural or possessive noun?

      • Plural.

I heard jv needs a new fibre NTD and 2000Mbps plan so you can send comments faster.

Same here couple weeks ago the installer attachs the fibre to the old phone line at one end then pulls the old cable out the other end bringing with it the fibre optic.

  • ahh so it's capacity interesting…

No idea why I am close to 3x that rate then: https://www.speedtest.net/result/17718110791

    • I meant plan wise… my parents in law have FTTP, if you put in the address into Spintel… you can only access plans up to 250… so I was wondering the reason for the limitation…

      • Try the address with another provider and see if higher speed plans are available.

FTTP is a huge improvement compared to FTTN already.

The issue is with the retailer, not the infrastructure…

  • Other issue is no one else is offering 750 for $90 other than Spintel. FIL is paying $89.89 pm with Superloop for 100

      750Mbps is Spintel's typical evening speed 7pm-11pm. It's 1000Mbps and has a max of 970Mbps on a speedtest using a capable router.

      Leaptel 100/20 $79.95/m for 12 months.
      Buddy Telco 100/20 $73/m for 6 months ($85/m ongoing).

      Leaptel 1000/50 $99/m for 12 months.
      Buddy Telco 1000/50 $99/m ongoing.

From September 100/20 gets boosted to 500/50 and 1000/50 gets boosted to 1000/100.

      • Which company is having their 100/20 boosted from September?

So I'm in Rosebery NSW - Spintel gives me the option of

        (1) 750mbps (with typical evening speed of 740/42) for $90/m ongoing

        (2) 1000 (with typical evening speed of 840/42) for $100.95/m ongoing

        • I reckon that most providers will have 500/50 ready to go.

Nobody else sells 750/50 because it's not available until September. SpinTel is now purchasing 1000/50 from nbn and cutting it down to 750/50.

I wouldn't go with SpinTel 1000/50 $100.95/m. Buddy Telco and Leaptel have a better network overall.

Someone on Whirlpool was complaining about this, seems to a be a problem with Spintel's backend or website or something. There was no issue with other providers. I'd just go with someone else like Leaptel if Spintel can't fix it.

Looks like the system hasn't caught up yet that your parents are on FTTP. Does Spintel tell you the connection type?

try nbnco address checker as well.

I doubt they could get 250 on their previous FTTN connection…

      • FTTN is absolute rubbish…

FIL was quite funny, he refused to let NBN people come onto his property for a long time because he didn't want them to dig up the garden again…

Why do they need more than 250?

    • FIL likes to stream things….

so on the days we work from their house, while they help us look after our offsprings, we have 2 Adults on Teams calls, 2 kids streaming youtube kids and 1 adult streaming youtube….

so 100 struggles on those days…
