I can't remember why I set up a price watch on this. Maybe for a homemade ambilight type thing? Anyway, it's at an ATL according to the camels.

does anyone know if there are any delays in the feed?

i know someone tried to a capture card with their laptop thinking it can be used to connect a Nintendo Switch on the go (instead of bringing a separate portable screen) and he said the latency was so high he couldn't play any games

    • the above blurb says - "With advanced chip, specifically designed to handle high-bandwidth video and audio signals, ensuring that there is no lag or delay during transmission"

      • +3

That above blurb is as useful as a piece of burnt paper.
I wouldn't trust this for latency, even the higher end capture cards struggle to get less than 5ms. Check EposVox for more details.

        • see below for pixelbugs's comment "I haven't noticed any delay in my year or so of having this capture card" - he's used the item - have you?

          • +1

@avtek: I suppose you got me there- but i've owned similar USB 2.0 powered capture cards that were fine for recording but not great for playing on an ipad.
Latency is also subjective- perhaps the commenter hasn't noticed it because he's playing slower RPG games or something.

As for this one, I've ordered it. If you want I can update my post with detailed latency measurements.

            • @LilSlip: ugreen have been pretty good with the stuff that ive bought - personally im more interested to figure out what codec it records in - would be great if it records to h265 - if it does then i would buy

I haven't noticed any delay in my year or so of having this capture card

      • good to know, did you use for anything like gaming which requires you to confirm response of inputs (movements, audio, etc) on the screen?

        • +1

Rhythm games are my thing so yes

      • Just to confirm, are you referring to the live feed of the capture on a connected computer, or the HDMI out on the capture card?

        • HDMI out on the capture card. Live feed of the capture will have differing delay based on what you're using (OBS for example adds a bunch of delay, but there is other software that is nowhere near as bad, if not unnoticeable on delay)

  • Ordered one, thanks OP!

From description it looks like it only does 1080p capture and not 4K. Its 4K passtrhough.

    • And no software to capture by the looks of it.

UGREEN 4K Video Capture Card $33.99 + Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $59 Spend) @ UGREEN via Amazon AU

It doesn't capture in 4K. It accepts a 4K signal, but only captures in 1080p.

Typical lies from the manufacturers just like with all them "4K supported" projectors that turn out to have 720p native resolution.

    • Is there a reason why it can pass through a 4K signal but only records in 1080p at 60fps?

      • +4

The usual, more expensive components needed to capture at 4K due to higher bandwidth requirements.

      • Becuz of the cost mate.

  • +1

Any idea if it passes through HDR?
I can see it doesn't capture HDR but it doesn't specify the pass through.

    • Same, I can not find any information if it will accept any kind of 120fps pass through.
Edit: Found a comment on Banproof's review that it no HDR in any form is supported

    • +1

As a general rule, if it only supports 1080p@60fps capture, then it wont support HDR.

They are technically two seperate requirements, but if it only supports 1080@60 due to hardware/cost, then HDR is unlikely to be supported as it requires higher cost chip specs and bandwith.
