This seems like a upgraded version of their previous 4 ports 65W dekstop charger. Maybe it is a new product offer?

    GaN
    I like GaN
    Is small.

    • IIRC, Agassi used a rather large racquet. But maybe he was just small in relation to it?

Pete Sampras had a much nicer racquet-to-person ratio.

      • +1

Have you seen the size of Agassi’s current racquet paddle? It’s GaN sized

    • +1

GaN, treat yourself to this charger.

  • Can anyone advise how well this charger performs? It appears that when fully loaded, port 1 will output 45W, but the remaining ports only output 5W each

    • +6

That sounds about right - it's 65W total shared between all the ports.
Good for charging random stuff - not so good if you want to charge your laptop + tablet together.

UGreen have a pretty good name, so it probably won't catch on fire at least :)

EDIT: Actually - look on the page a bit further down, they show all the different combos. EG. All 4 Ports: 45W + 4x5W. 2 Ports: 45W+20W etc

      • Thanks mate, yeah I saw that. It's just that I'll be fully loading this when travelling, and not sure the 5W per port (other than the first port) will be sufficient for all the other devices. I'll keep contemplating…

      4xUSBC + 1xUSBA feels about right - I still got a bunch of random USB-A Stuff - I hate the ones that're 1xUSBC and 4xUSBA :P

    • +14

Wow that's an unpopular take- one USB-A is invaluable for all the stuff that doesn't work with usb c-c cables. Think cheaper chinese handheld consoles, lights, and just cheap stuff with USB C In particular.

I travel a lot (including camping and bikepacking) and so have worked hard to limit all the devices I use regularly to USB C charging. It means smaller chargers, less cables, faster charging, etc. It has taken a few years but I've finally got there. This includes things like my bike computer, GPS messenger, electronic bike shifting charger, earphones, all bike lights, torches and batteries, and of course powerbanks.

One day, the rest of us will catch up to you but for now we do need that 1 USB-A so it's not a waste.

        • So it's not useful to you at all.

But useful to 95% or so of most people who have not obsessively worked to ditch USB-A. And have to charge things like flashlights or shavers or whatever.

Yeah, they should totally mass produce products for a tiny market niche.

          /s

          • @rumblytangara: It's not a niche, it's the current market. USB A is legacy.

            • @Bogusjimmy: ICE cars are also using legacy technology. Would you argue that new suburbs should not include petrol stations?

              • @rumblytangara: ICE cars are still almost 90% of the new car market.

What % of new electronic devices can't charge via USB C?

        • Usb-D will wreck all that

    • +5

If it's going to have 2+ USB ports, I always like at least 1 of the ports to be USB A

Reason? Not all devices support PD, and for those devices USB A is your only real option.

      • +1

lack of pd on some devices like some torches and stuff means need usb A, unless you have the special cable the device might have come with.

    • +3

Not having usb A is a deal breaker for me. If they stop putting USB A on all chargers then people will be forced to buy extra cables for their existing device or having to replace theirs with USB C devices, which leads to even more waste.

      • I have enough USB A chargers and the number of devices I own which use USB A exclusively will only decrease.

Having only USB C cables is so much simpler and easier.

    • +2

Yeah well maybe they would if your precious USB C was actually a proper standard and not a haphazard amalgation of BS.

      • +1

The charging side of things are pretty straightforward. Worse case scenario someone buys a cable without an e-marker and is limited to 60W. They probably would never notice.

The data transfer side is minefield but again most use cases are satisfied by the USB 2.0 speeds provided by all cables.

      • +1

It's the standard. Buy quality products and cables and they work. Interestingly Apple hasn't sold a MacBook with USB A this decade.

  • Is Anker considered better than UGreen or is it much of a muchness with same internals?

    • +3

IMO their quality is on par with each other.

iv got various ugreen and anker chargers, battery packs, cables etc….havent had any die on me, I usually lose it before it dies.

      • have had lots of anker and ugreen products, one anker brick died with heavy use after 1.5 years. my other three anker bricks and cables have all been flawless though.

    • Anker "quality" is good, but usually old. And thus well overpriced.

  • Why has the price changed to 49.99 now?

    • +3

      Apply the coupon

  • Sheesh - my trial Prime expired last night and now the deals I'd been waiting for start!

    • Just need to add $10 of items to get free shipping

  • This has the benefit of more USB C ports but I'm personally hanging out for 100w charger to be around this price. I only need a slot for laptop, phone and maybe one other thing. Can just swap one out in the rare event more devices need charging

  • +1

Does this charge S24 ultra/S25ultra with superfast charging 2.0 speeds?

    • in theory, it should (assuming ONLY the s24u/s25u is connected), having multiple devices connected might not achieve this.

  • Got the 100w version which has better wattage when 3 or all ports are in use. Much less thinking about it if you are just charging phones that might be capped anyway.
As with most ugreen products it will go on sale again.

  • received mine today, the figure 8 cable is detachable which is nice for travel.

It's much lighter than the 100w & 200w versions as this seems to be more of a plastic construction.
