RM Williams Archive Sale (up to 50% off Past Seasons) + $10 Delivery ($0 with $75 Order) @ R. M. Williams

880

*Some are actually more than 50% off, the carcoat I bought is about 70% off.

After the Wayville and Toowoomba sale, RM has made available discounts from the comfort of your throne. From what I can see the boot sizes are quite limited. After just getting back from the Wayville sale, the only worthwhile purchase are the jacket and coats. Hopefully you can find something worthwhile for you. From what I observed some item actually gets released a few days into the sale, so they might not be available today.

Example: $489.00 (Price reduced from $699.00) — https://www.rmwilliams.com.au/comfort-craftsman-boot-khaki-s…

thankyou - great deal on the carcoat!

  • +1

    How does the carcoat fit?

    • I have a small RM car coat and i’m normally a 40 shirt

  • +7

Sucks that most of the non-leather goods like the clothes are imported. I’d be happy to pay the premium prices for Australian made but it’s just the same old made in India/china/bangladesh stuff, not sure it was always like that with rmw? Anyone recommend Australian made alternatives?

  • +1

I picked up 4x boots from Wayville for $100 each. This online sale is disappointing

    • What's Wayville?

      • South Australian thing :)

    • They’ve never been that cheap at Wayville. Don’t lie

      • Last 3 days of the clearance at Wayville, they dropped the pricing of all boots to $100 each.

        • +1

Including the elastic sided boots? They dropped all non-elastic boots to $200 when I was there, but the boxed elastic boots have always been $400.

          • +2

@awesomise: Yeah, every boot was on clearance down to $100. I went on the 2nd day they marked all boots $100 and I was only able to get Adelaide, Cuban and suede elastic side boots. Comfort craftmans etc disappeared on the first day of the $100 clearance.

I would try and go on the last 3 days of the clearance sale to grab a real bargain next time RM Clearance happens again at Wayville

            • @RADICALIST: Hopefully it won’t take another 3 years!

            • @RADICALIST: May I ask are the adelaide and cuban boots men's or women's? Im always confused by RM's product line.

              • @puan123: feminine style

                • @buffalo bill: Yeah, women's boots for my wife. I was only able to get white leather sneakers for $100 and Commando boots for $200.

    • I was so cut I left SA the day before Wayville started

      • +1

If you weren't there for the last 3 days, it wasn't worth going tbh.

    • So, $200 a pair?

  • -7

where's the link to carcoat ?

  • Does anyone know if there is a big difference in quality in their Australian made apparel versus the overseas made stuff?

    • +2

Not really. I have mixed RM shirts made in Oz, Madagascar, Vietnam and China, besides the fact they were made with different materials, I don't think they're better than one another, but I love my Madagascar-made linen shirts.

  • My understanding is RM Williams quality has dropped off a cliff. You're no longer buying quality, just the brand.

    • +2

I don't know either way. Clothing line maybe. But I doubt their boots have declined. Been making their boots the same way for generations.

        https://youtu.be/N5QX2_5jvtY

You might like to watch this then. And any other loyal RM Williams customers

        • +5

Every single thread about RM this atrocious video gets linked. It's entirely dedicated to complaining about synthetics in the Comfort's which are designed to have synthetic insoles. You can't compare Classic to Comfort and pretend to be surprised that a boot designed to have synthetics has synthetics.

          • +3

@japes: Rose Anvil has been debunked for their Common Projects video. I wouldn't trust their analysis for anything other than entertainment.

In saying that, anecdotally I have heard the QA of RMs has been bad for last few years.

      • -1

Boots have declined the worst unfortunately

    • -2

I did notice their Comfort Craftsman now uses medium grain leather. When I bought mine back in 2023 it used full grain leather. Maybe that's the drop in quality? I wouldn't imagine if they're still using the same type of leather the quality would go down

That said I got a full grain leather wallet a few months ago and it feels really nice and solid

      • The Comfort Craftsman is still full-grain yearling, but they offer a variety of different leather types now seasonally - lot of pull up options.

I don't even know what 'medium grain' is.

        • -1

It says the type of leather on the listing for each item mate…

          • -1

@bumluffa: Exactly. The standard-line Comfort and Classic Craftsman are full grain yearling. Can you link me to a 'medium grain' one?

    • Some of their clothes are now made in Australia, but there's some pieces that are made overseas so it can be hit and miss. I've got some shirts, jumper and pants that have held up.

Can't comment on their shoes. They raised the price earlier in the year and it's hard to justify the price.

  • Didnt get the Wayville this year. Just dont message members. That being said, how many more boots, bags and belts can I buy?

  • whats the best TNF puffer vest to go with these ?

  • -4

Shitty quality for 450$ price tag after sale. Still not worth it, watch the youtuber exposed this cheap material. For $450, Thursday is way more superior and worth every penny

    • +1

I dont know why down votes tbh. Whilst I own RM boots, I refuse to pay $400 for them because the quality has dropped (yes, even at Salisbury). And at $600+ there are several brands offering superior products.

    • +2

watch the youtuber exposed this cheap material.

You mean the one where he compared a Craftsman to a Comfort Craftsman and said the quality must be declining as there was a difference between two different models?

…When the whole point of the Comfort Craftsman is that it is different to the Craftsman and has some synthetic materials like a rubber sole.

      Such an exposition!

      • -2

If you know about leather and boots that much, should have watched the video. It only went live recently a couple of months, RM Williams being dissect to the core. At the end of the day, not worth to spend for this brand anymore, just for brand shit

        • +2

You mean the video that went live more than a couple of months ago (more like 9 months ago) which I just explained was a pointless video as he compared the difference between two different models and said the quality must be declining because one was not like the other?

        • +1

          I'm into boots.

I own Vibergs, Grant Stone's, RM's, Parkhursts, TGC (Fugushin) and have had plenty more brands including Allen Edmonds, Thursdays, Grenson and Meermin over the years.

That video is hot dogwater. Rose Anvil rarely makes a good video (knows (profanity) for someone who is 'in' the industry) but ventures from his usual clueless into intentionally misleading, but again, probably because he's just all-round clueless.

          • +1

@japes: How do the other brands you own compare to RM's?
I love mine but hard to justify a new pair at current prices. Is there anything more cost effective?

            • @SJDR: A decent pair of goodyear welted boots/shoes is going to cost you about what a pair of RM's cost outside of sale pricing. Also massively depends what kind of shoe/boot you're keen on.

For service boots for example, Viberg is just absurdly expensive and in my opinion not worth the dollars spent (about $1600/pair), but Grant Stone's are generally regarded as the best bang for buck for high quality materials, craftsmanship, and QA. They're going to set you back about $675 plus GST and postage anyway. Parkhurst are low 600's plus postage.

Meermin have a wide selection but you'll want narrow feet and their QA is hit and miss and the customer service isn't there. Excellent boots if you get a good pair though, which would happen more than not. Thursday Boots are about $350 plus postage I believe, but I'd honestly pay for better quality. Yes they're welted, yes the leather is fine, but the QA can be hit and miss (they have good customer support) but in my experience the soles were absolute garbage, which when you're paying $200+ for a decent resole here, you want them lasting.

For a nice pair of Chelsea's you basically aren't going to find better than RM's here in Australia - you can still find them for around $450 during sale time and for end of season, or try outlets, but since they got rid of third-party sellers doing custom orders the average price is definitely up. I have not tried Rossi, Ariat, Baxter etc either though. TGC did some excellent shoes and boots but they're no longer available.

That's a dogs breakfast of information but let me know what boots you're after and I can probably narrow down/help.

              • @japes: Thanks for that!
Budget would be under 500. I'd love another pair of RM's but can't find them for that price any longer.
I might look at Thursday boots though. I'm very light on the soles (my RM's must be close to 10 yrs old now and the original soles still look near new

                • +1

@SJDR: Check them out. As I said if you have any particular styles in mind I might be able to help narrow the search a bit.

Thursday has a pretty good mix of styles and their lasts are generally pretty nice but they do casual better than dress.

    • Do you have any pairs of Thursday's? Not even comparable.

  • Thanks OP, bought the runner chore jacket.

    https://www.rmwilliams.com.au/runner-chore-jacket-taupe-twil…

$99 ($349 RRP) all in all with free delivery. Hope it's good quality and if not, well, it's $99.

  • Still pretending to be working class

    • yes. Because leaning into heritage is marketing 101

Do you think it would benefit RMW if they started using CBD suit types as models? Don’t be naive

  • Pet peeve: the collars on the Oxford shirts are comically small

  • Bought the Milsons sportscoat for $129 down from $449. Arrived today and very happy with it.

Wow .. fanboys downvoting the comment about the YT review
Definitely going to watch it :)

    • +1

It's not a bad video but the creator has been criticized for this and other videos as well.

      • RMs are expensive and maybe not so much "value for money" anymore. There are high expectations for materials and build, which is totally fair.
      • There is truth to the Comfort Craftsman Materials, since for that specific boot, criticisms about thinner leather in some areas and the use of synthetic components (like fibreboard insoles) at a premium price are understandable.

However the video has some issues as well

      • They compared the Comfort Craftsman (designed with synthetics since 2006) to the more traditional Classic Craftsman. They're different lines for different preferences.
      • The Comfort model's synthetic elements (e.g., Poron foam insole) are not cheap either, and it isn't an hidden downgrade but rather intentional design choice for the comfort model's goals.
      • They implied that there is a massive, brand-wide quality drop based on the Comfort model, which is a stretch. Especially since the Classic line still exists with its traditional construction. Even with the different materials used, its still not a sub $200 shoe.
      • -1

        Thanks, noted

    • -1

Wow .. nothing quite says 'confirmation bias' like a comment like this.

      • -2

You must be a greens voter who occasionally go around with that imaginary flag

        • I have no idea what you're talking about, which is a tad ironic since neither do you. Enjoy the misinformation in the video though chief.

          • -2

@japes: Ah, classic playbook. Dismiss what you don't like as "misinformation" without offering a shred of counter-argument — very on-brand for someone trapped in an echo chamber of their own making. The entitled fanboy routine — acting like your opinion is gospel while waving off anything that challenges it — is as tired as it is transparent. But hey, when facts don’t suit your narrative, condescension is always the next best defense.

            • @Ozsaver88: I've provided feedback on the video elsewhere in the thread (literally the comment chain you're referencing getting downvoted in your initial reply here) and in previous threads.

What specifics would you like to know so I can provide the substance you expect from others but are so keen to avoid yourself?

              • -2

@japes: Appreciate the offer, but no one here needs a self-appointed gatekeeper. Stay away and let people watch the reviews and form their own opinions without your running commentary attached to everything. Simple.

                • @Ozsaver88: Yet your initial response here is intentionally inflammatory and completely redundant since the video had already been linked.

If you were interested in genuine discussion, which you clearly aren't, that's a horrific way of going about it. The follow up greens/flag comment was even more wayward.

If you need to justify not buying an 'expensive' pair of boots then please, go ahead and do your own research. Maybe try multiple sources and don't feel the need to announce it in future too. If you want to actually learn about welted footwear, leather, and boot quality, you'll find better places than Rose Anvil quite easily - there's people in this thread who know more about it.

                  • -2

@japes: You seem awfully invested in policing comments on a bargain forum. If people want to watch a review and form their own opinion, they will — no permission or boot lecture needed. Maybe take a breather from being the thread’s unsolicited authority. Not everyone’s here for a debate club.

And just so we're clear — I’m not wasting another minute reading or replying to your self-important drivel. Got better things to do than sift through your condescension BS. Move on.

                    • -1

@Ozsaver88: Another very odd comment. Don't get upset because you've got nothing to offer.

Won't spend time with anything further but you'll pop back through previous comments to downvote - classy :)

                      • -2

@japes: Not upset, just unimpressed — especially by keyboard preachers who mistake snark for substance. If projecting superiority helps you cope, go off. Just don’t confuse your running commentary with relevance.

                        • -1

@Ozsaver88: But did you ever actually watch the video?

                          • -2

@japes: Whether I watched it or not is none of your business. You’re not the gatekeeper of what people choose to engage with — so take a step back

                            • @Ozsaver88: So you're happy to announce that you're "definitely going to watch it :)", and then somehow upset when people ask if you watched it.

                              This writes itself.

I don't think you understand what gatekeeping is but don't let me gatekeep you researching that yourself either.

                              • -1

@japes: You’re way too pressed over a random comment on a bargain forum. Seriously — f*** off and find a new hobby. This one’s tired.

                                • -1

                                  @Ozsaver88:

                                  Reminder that you're still here.

                                  • -1

@japes: You’ve been tracking my replies like you’ve got a crush. I don’t swing that way — move on :)

                                    • -1

@Ozsaver88: That's a weird way of mentioning that I have the ability to read. Would love to see that response you've deleted too.

Reality is you've spent more time complaining about me than it would've taken to watch the video you were 'definitely' going to watch and still haven't, so you clearly aren't concerned with being 'informed'.

                                      • -1

@japes: It’s a shame your parents never invested in hobbies or social skills — would’ve saved the rest of us from this little online personality crisis

                                        • -1

@Ozsaver88: How do you still not grasp that I'm just baiting you because it's easy?

                                          • -1

@japes: Nah, you're not baiting — you're just pathetic and starved for attention. Crawl back under your thread aka your life.

You are a limp troll with no balls. Sit down and keep pretending those RM boots are hiding anything but a shriveled pair of testicles.

                                            • -1

@Ozsaver88: I'm baiting because I know you have to have the last word. As I said, I've got other boots too :)

                                              • -1

@japes: Bet those boots are the only thing that’s ever been inside anything

                                                • -1

@Ozsaver88: That makes zero sense (bit of a theme here with you), but is also a swing and a miss. Try again.

                                                  • -1

@japes: You try so hard to be relevant, it’s almost tragic. Almost.

                                                    • @Ozsaver88: Such a weird comment since nothing at all has even tried to be relevant here, including your initial response. You've actively refused to engage in relevant discussion despite my prompting and haven't even watched the video.

You also keep taking really odd swings (and misses) with your attempted insults. As I said before, it's very clear that you think you need to have the last word. You seem like a very simple person - I'm sorry that you can't let it go.

                                                      • @japes: you should seek help!

                                                        • @Ozsaver88: Why do you keep engaging?

                                                          • @japes: I really want to help mentally ill people like yourself

                                                            • @Ozsaver88: Thanks mate, I can see that from the way you've initially posted here with a video you haven't watched. Really appreciate it.

                                                              • @japes: Yes, you're welcome. Seek help! sorry that we can't do much online here.
