it's basically a bluetooth speaker with LED lamp + 8K battery inside, and solar chargeable.

    the USB-C is input ONLY.

    USB-A 5W output.

can charge via solar but it will take a long time to charge 8000mAh. if you use it camping to listen 30 mins and charge with solar everyday you could probably keep it topped up with solar. USB-C charging is also an option in a pinch, but charging the 8K battery everyday won't be easy even with a 10k/25k power bank.

5 watts charging is terribly slow for most people.
The PV panel also doesn't seem very high-wattage.

This seems more like a last-resort option than your next speaker or powerbank of choice. Could be good to keep in the car but I imagine one would use it quite rarely given the prevalence of other powerbanks that charge much quicker, speakers that last longer etc.

    • tbh because the battery lasts 8 hours, when camping you could use it for half an hour a day and charge that little bit back up with the 2.5W solar. so it lasts forever and you can keep your other actual powerbank for charging your other devices.
      8Ah x 3.7V = 29.6Wh battery. 8 hours/0.5 hours = 16.
29.6Wh battery/16=1.85Wh, 1.85Wh/2.5W = 45 mins of full sun solar to charge back up.

I guess I'm thinking it of more like a camping BT speaker with 8K battery, not a power bank but that function could be handy in emergency. I'm also hoping to be surprised by the sound for $30. but who knows maybe I will be disappointed. 🙇‍♀️

and yes even 9W/18W charging is considered slow these days.

I have this speaker and the sound isn't great and it doesn't get very loud. Some may like it for this price but I never use it.

    • oh no ok maybe my expectations for the sound were too high.

it might also be a lot less popular than I thought. I liked that it's bluetooth and has a big battery inside, but boomers might be pissed it doesn't have digital radio.

  • It seems a strange combo of products.
    +1 for the solar ability
but campers generally shy away from speakers - it's quite offputting to others at the campsites.

I had been looking for something like this but without the speakers. Hopefully can find a solar rechargeable powerbank for a slightly cheaper price

It seems a strange combo of products.

yeah but I was happy with the flexible design.

cloudy and still at home? can charge with USB-C.
outdoors camping and limited on power? can charge a small amount with solar. (as I mentioned above with limited use you can keep the 8000mAh topped up, and even if slow charging USB-A 5W only, in an emergency you can have about 7000mAh spare as long as topped up everyday).

also you could think ignore the speaker part, and use it camping as a LED lamp with 8K battery you will probably get a lot more battery life just using the light maybe 3 times as much (24 hours total). and keep it topped up with solar.

ok got mine here's some feedback.

opened it as soon as got home yesterday and plugged it into charger, takes about 5 hours to completely charge. which makes sense given the large 8K battery.
so battery was completely empty out of box. my INIU power bank had 50% charge when I opened it but I got a new model soon after it was available on amazon. not that bad can't complain.

battery is holding charge very well. there is no charge indicator on the speaker but it shows % through bluetooth connection it's still 100% even after playing it for awhile. the charging indicator is behind a very solid feeling rubber piece which waterproofs all the ports, the indicator blinks while charging and stays on when charged. I like this better than "off" when charged because it's much easier to see from a distance and catches your eye.

the overall quality of the speaker is great, I feel like it's a budget Marshall speaker. everything feels quality and the 700g weight makes it feel very solid.
the sound is just ok, but if you have EQ you can really make it sound very good (Spotify App has built in EQ). with EQ it sounds better than the UE Megaboom someone left behind, but obviously the Freeplay is not 360.
I'm not kidding when I say it's much better sounding with EQ. I assume from having those big batteries inside it has no problem putting out 10W.
as the other comment said above, the volume might be slightly lacking, but indoors even after proper EQ (only cut don't boost) I still only use 65% volume and it's plenty loud for me. but take it outside and you might find 90% volume isn't enough.

the downsides, there is no multi speaker pairing you can only get and use one at a time. and the power on and off sounds are a bit loud (you can't control these volume) and weird. power on sounds like pwoer on, but power off doesn't sound like power down? anyway small complaints.

oh and after it's charged and you pull out the cable, the red light changes to blue and stays on. I don't know what that's about I assume it's letting me know "Im charged". but yeah I watched it for like 10 seconds it stayed on. the speaker was off so it's not a bluetooth indicator. just a bit random.

haven't tried solar yet, but there is a solar indicator on the top of the speaker between the buttons. that's great, so you can tell if it's actually getting enough sun or not to charge. also the LED light is not the brightest but bright enough for a lamp. there are 3 brightness levels you can cycle.

overall satisfied for $26.60. I mostly have small bluetooth speakers but this really kicks. I might get rid of my wonderbooms, they do have advantage of pairing and wide stereo though.

also there is a warning sticker under the solar panel which says do not leave it in a car it may overheat and start a fire.

some extra info from user manual that didn't show on store pages.

    Area Light Output : 3W.
Area Light Lumens : 100lm (I assume at maximum)
    BT version : 5.3
Playback : Up to 15 Hours (I believe it, battery holds charge very well, some pages say 8 hours maybe they changed it so people can get that if play the speaker louder)

      just an update.
to see if the % would drop I played the speaker every day until now for approximately 3 hours total at 65% volume and was able to see 90% battery level now on the phone indication through the BT connection (ime BT connection indicator shows % when it's actually just passed it so 89% and it shows 80% when it becomes 79% etc).
so should be getting 30 hours until battery empty at roughly just above half volume. I think 15 hours as claimed is possible at max volume.

this is going to be one of those speakers I only have to charge once every 2 months.

forgot to describe why the sound was just ok.

out of box the sound is very middle focused it's quiet on bass and quiet on highs, kind of like the Megaboom tbh but the Cygnett had bit more bass. but still less than I like which is why I didn't really like the Megaboom's sound.

if you want to EQ it I recommend cutting all the middle and leaving the far left and far right dots where they are. then raise the 2nd from left dot until you get the amount of bass you like. I also added a bit with the 1khz dot to make it sound a bit clearer. when you cut middle like this you might think the speaker got quieter, so instead just raise the volume more to achieve a good volume.

doing EQ on the Megaboom didn't change much honestly. but doing the same on Cygnett made it sound much better, and you can tell it's making it's sound easily. which is why I say the Cygnett is the better speaker.

also the Cygnett doesn't lose bass as you turn the volume up, it stays the same and bass gets louder with everything else. Megaboom after a certain point just keeps losing bass.

  • Was able to get this down to $17.99 delivered. I added the Nokia DC-18 Universal Portable Micro USB Charger @$4.99 to get the order total over $30 and make it eligible for the $10 welcome discount. Welcome discount added an extra $5 off for adding a phone number for a total of $15 off. Unsure what made me eligible for free postage but it was available at checkout as well.

      nice.

I think free shipping is included as part of welcome discount.

just make sure to charge it fully with USB-C before trying to use it. battery was 0% on mine out of box and it will take forever to charge it fully with solar.
