  • Roborock or ecovacs for hardwood floors at ~$1500 budget?

    • +1

I have maxv model and use it daily for hard floor mopping. It’s absolutely godsend and my floor has never looked this cleaner. I have set this up to avoid rugs (as I vacuum them manually using Dyson stick).

I use it with EcoVac cleaning solution which is around $37 for a litre but you need only a capful - probably will last around 6-8 months.

If you have multifloor it’s even better as you only need to manually move the unit to the desired floor and it auto detects and changes the map accordingly. Highly recommended.

      • Why do you vacuum manually rather than use the maxv?

        • +1

my rug has a weird design and is a nightmare to vacccum. It also sheds lot of pile so if I use any robot vaccum, it will fill up too quickly and I will be replacing the bag pretty much every month. I worked out that the best way to deal with this is either to change the rug or just not let Maxv near it - the latter is a cheaper option :)

Roborock's massive lineup of almost-but-not-quite identically named products is so confusing.

    • +2

You can't even tell which one is latest from the model number. But in China they named quite identical. S7 Ultra=G10U, S8 Ultra=G20U. Price of Most Australian Model are 2~2.5X of Price in China Mainland.

      • +2

How does one pay Chinese prices and have it shipped to Australia… 😏

        • +1 how do we order from china?

        • They are unfortunately region locked so getting them to work in Aus would be a pain

          • +1

@flud: u mean it won't even work if it detects IP as outside china?

            • +3

@selphie: They are region lock. They detect the IP of the robot, if it is outside of China Mainland then you can only use it without mapping which is a pain. Although you can technically fix this by introducing a proxy server between Australia and China, it takes some effort.

Also these robots are upgrading too fast so that they are not tested thoroughly. I purchase roborock from China since 2 years ago and when you need a warranty you have to ship it back to China in some case, which is not a very pleasant experience.

              • @rzy6cn: Regarding warranty, ur better off just learning to repair these yourself. They are too bulky and it’s annoying to be without them for weeks at a time when they repair it (or reject your claim).

Parts are quite cheap off of aliexpress.

eBay plus required for those prices, worth mentioning

  • Not great for carpet still - but wooden/ceramic tiles these are a godsend for vacuuming and mopping. They also don't go up bathroom lips. You'll need to purchase a separate riser.

We still have to use our dyson on the carpets. We have the S7 MaxV+ Ultra which is very similar.

    • +2

I have the S7 MaxV Ultra too. If you want it to be good with carpets you need to swap the brush out to this https://www.robotspecialist.com.au/products/roborock-s7-q7-m…

Just note, it does tangle quicker than the default brush but that’s because it acccccctually vacuums the carpets properly. Levels up the carpet performance significantly.

      • Did you use this approach?

        • For 2 years straight, yep.

          • @Broos: Have you noticed any adverse effects on the ultra dock? The website link says “not recommended for auto empty dock or wash dock”. I have seen this recommendation from others to use this brush for better hair pickup.

            • @legomansam: Nothing at all. The dock empties and cleaned perfectly.

Roborock makes great products but their customer support and warranty is questionable. I have S7 ultra which developed a fault in the second year which Roborock refuses to see without paying an assessment fee because their warranty period is 1 year. Paid $1.8k at the time. Currently have a QCAT case against them.

    • What was the fault with the S7?

      • +1

The dock says “voltage error” when it attempts to fill in the vacuum bag. Other functions work so I am still using it as is.

The problem with their assessment fee was that if they deemed it to be unrepairable, I lose the assessment fee. QCAT case wait time is long but I rather pay money to get ACL in their heads than paying the assessment fee.

Personally won’t buy their product anymore and it was my second purchase of their products.

    • Yeah their aftersales is nonexistent. Very frustrating. I’m glad to not have any issues with my S7 MaxV Ultra, yet.

    • +1

I’d only buy Roborock through jb hifi for this reason.

Any issues you can resolve through them.

    • Bought mine through Costco. Remember similar price for maxv. $1199 if I am not wrong. Hoping Costco would resolve if any issues.

  • Need this with dual brush and more power

  • As someone that owns both a Qrevo and Qrevo MaxV, I would suggest waiting for a Qrevo deal sub $850 (I got mine for $817 on good guys commercial last year).

MaxV is better because of the extending mop and camera, but neither of those things are really that important.

Regular Qrevo trumps it because it's water tanks are bigger (like 1/3 bigger), which means less refilling required. Also in real world use in the same environments, I don't necessarily feel like MaxV's supposedly superior obstacle avoidance is true in practice.

    • MaxV is better because of the extending mop and camera, but neither of those things are really that important.

I actually love the extending arm! I bought this three months ago, and not once since then have I had to manually clean the edges of my floorboards—they’re spotless.

As for the camera, I’m not entirely sure what benefit it really provides, but I’ve noticed that map switching in my multi-floor home is impressively fast. I’m not sure if that’s because the camera recognizes each floor or if it’s due to more advanced sensors compared to the Dreame model I used before.

Overall, I genuinely love this machine and hope it keeps my floors sparkly clean for at least the next three years.
