    Does anyone believe these claims.

    • +1

      Not me

    • Yep, sort of and really depends on the car. Older cars with higher kms doing short trips can actually benefit a bit. Not magic, but might help clean out minor build-up.

Newer cars with low kms? No real need unless there’s a specific issue. Just follow the dosage and don’t expect miracles.

Best time to add it is just before filling up your fuel tank. That ensures it mixes well as the fuel goes in. Ideal before a longer drive also, especially if your usual trips are short as it gives it time to circulate properly. There are two doses in this, so $4.5 a pop.

Easiest way to tell if you're getting a snakeoil version is to actually look at the active ingredient.

In this case, its mostly hydrocarbons, so you'll get better value, and a stronger clean 'making e5' (half a tank of e10).

Otherwise an off the tap 'PEA' blend fuel will do better.

    • I can't comment on this product but I can 100% confidentially say that Liqui Moly WORKS. I was amazed at how well it worked on our car with flat spot acceleration issues.

      The solvents/hydrocarbons DOES work & worth a try @ $3 ish…I still have injector-cleaner from past-sales, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/530816

For MY-MANUAL-car, it's that VERY-1st-LIGHT-TOUCH of the acceleration-pedal that I feel the responsiveness of my U91. Every few months, responsiveness feel sluggish, I add WAY-LESS than the recommended dose. Generally, I feel a SLIGHT-improvement in responsiveness…but sometime none.

The above was mainly METRO-driving with same work-route & weekly routine…lucky to get a few minutes drive @ 60 km/hr at-best. But, in the last 6 months, my work-route changed: 24+ km journey with mainly 70-90 km/hr stretches of highway/roads 😇. I NO-longer need to add injector-cleaner. I think it's because the increase petrol-flow via higher-speed & more-constant-flow (fewer traffic-lights) clears the periodic slightly clogged injectors.

The benefit of the above is minimal comparing to the responsiveness via different brand-U91. Brand that deliver poor-responsiveness DO translates to ~ 0.03 L/100km worse fuel economy & this's NOT-base on the L/100km display on my dashboard which has UNDER-state since-new, lol.

Injector cleaner must have “PEA” in it to perform , an additive invented by chevron, which is the only ingredient that can correctly clean injectors and other components. The ones with it will generally have it mentioned on the bottle for example , https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/rislone-high-performance…

    • Thanks for the heads up

"Nulon Petrol Injector Cleaner helps to eliminate hard starting, rough running, flat spots on acceleration and poor performance. PIC is safe to use in all types of petrol."

This is injector cleaner not fuel system cleaner as per Ops description.

FWIW from personal experience it lives up to the claims. Helped with hard starting and flat spot on acceleration on an older car (port injected) . Won't do anything on a new car without issues

  • Petrol injector cleaners are not a scam, but their usefulness depends on your expectations and how they’re used.

    When they are useful:
    • Preventive maintenance: Helps keep injectors clean if used regularly (e.g. every 5,000–10,000 km).
    • Minor issues: Can smooth out rough idling, mild hesitation, or slightly reduced fuel economy in cars with mild carbon build-up.
    • Older vehicles or those run on low-quality fuel benefit the most.

    When they don’t help:
    • If your injectors are severely clogged, a bottle of cleaner won’t fix it — you’ll need professional ultrasonic cleaning.
    • You won’t notice a dramatic power or mileage boost if your engine is already clean and running well.
    • They don’t fix mechanical problems or major fuel system faults.

    Scientific basis:

Most reputable injector cleaners (like Nulon, Liqui Moly, or Techron) use solvents like PEA (polyetheramine), which is proven to break down carbon deposits.

    Verdict:

Not a scam — but not a miracle cure either. They’re best for preventive care and minor performance smoothing, not for solving serious engine issues.

If you're looking for proven and powerful cleaning, choose a product that contains Polyetheramine (PEA).
It is the gold standard for injector cleaning in both consumer and industry use.
