Making The Most Out of Private Health Insurance Extras

I just got top cover private health insurance for Qantas points but also because of necessity. Are there any podiatrists, physios, dietitians, acupuncturist etc around Sydney that anyone can recommend for no to little gap while I have fancy pants cover?

My limits seems to be generous with a 75% rebate.

I just recently claimed remedial massage from my cousin who gave me a discounted rate.

And the dentist I saw today offered me veneers for my two front teeth which is usually only covered under major dental but he put it in as general dental for me.

Or perhaps there are OzBargainers who work in healthcare who could offer us mates rates?

FFS, that why we are all getting screwed with extras. Fraudulent claims. FFS.

-shrug- I asked if it was general dental or major dental. He said general. I didn’t ask him to put it under another line item.

If the Dentist cant know the difference, I would be very careful about their procedures skill.

Veneers can be rather fraught with issues. I suggest a simple search under "issues with veneers"

A long term issues when overtime they deteriorate.

  • Can you clarify who your PHI Extras insurer is, is it Qantas Health (NIB).
Just check on any waiting periods on Extras unless you have some deal where that has been waived…

    • Yep, you have to call up to get it waived. They will also offer you a few more points to sweeten the deal.

Interesting. Many funds prohibit claiming for services provided by related parties.

I know an Optometrist in Melbourne that will let you get non-prescription sunglasses. eg. Ray Bans

Imagine studying for all those years to obtain the required qualification and registration, then doing what is described above.

      • I got sunglasses for years with them. They get $200, I get sunglasses. Otherwise the $200 optical rebate goes to the healthcare company. Now I get proper prescription glasses through them. It's a win for them and me.

    Get a b**b job.

Seriously, what a low life. You don't have to get all of your money's worth from insurance. Just having the coverage gives the money's worth.

Whilst I agree that this is scummy, “extras” health insurance is an optional add on and not really health insurance.

It’s just a fee that gives you a specific amount of usage for random services from various categories.

Wrong. Tell that to a health insurance fraud investigator and see what they say to you.

        • What would the fraud team care over me saying extras insurance is not the same as hospital?

That's not what you said above. You said:
