jesus, just signed up last Friday, missed this

  • Is eSIM eligible for this offer?

    • +1

yes, just bought one and was tracked immediately

      • Thanks!

  • +2

Between Yomojo's 50% off for the first 6 months and this deal, the market seems to be heating up.

Personally, I think the Yomojo's offer is better, as the referral bonus will cover a few months.

      • how come i never got charged for data when i am over the limiy?

      • that doesn't sound right for a prepaid service, just don't keep extra balance on your account perhaps?

      • May be get rid of your card details or just provide an invalid card like a used up coles mastercard gift card

    • On top of that there's a profit but it comes down to reputation and reliability I guess

    • +1

Yomojo seems to be Optus 4G only vs Felix 4G+5G Voda. 5G speeds probably don't matter with the speed limits, but I don't know what effect the lack of 5G has on coverage.

  • Dammit, signed up on Friday. Missed 6 month now this.

  • Good deal for both providers. Any port out fee ?

  • just confirming its prepaid and no contracts ?

    which makes
    $1 profit after cashback of $11 if I buy 25 GB $10

    • +2

No $11 cashback is for $16 unlimited plan

  • +5

Sim slutted voda service end of 2024 it had improved by miles.

    • +2

Agreed, It's not as good at jumping between towers whilst driving as Optus or Voda is but It's rock solid for most. and since they have teamed up with Optus for its rural network there's little reason to stay on the Optus network.

How can I use this with my router and replace my nbn?

    • +1

Yes, until they catch you and block it. Sometimes after a month, sometimes never.

      • I think if you keep a low profile you can get away with it longer. So no heavy usage, don't download at peak times etc.

You still need a recent phone to run the app to activate

        • By "recent" you mean up to some 10 years old? The one I'm using is 7.

          • +1

@wisdomtooth: Yah. I suppose 'relatively recent' is more accurate

I just found it a bit weird. Once the sim is activated it can be used in anything, but you can't activate it with just anything. Worth noting

            • @outlander: I had an old pixel 2 which they just blocked for no good reason even after it was active… whereas a mid-range slightly newer device was fine

      • Sorry im new to this, is it not allowed to use it for your home internet? I dont use much gbs anyway

    • I did it for a few months so it is possible.

      • +1

Still doing it. No probs. It's been better than what I had before (Origin, MATE), streaming and all. And I'm hotspotting from an old phone! I'm yet to set it up properly through the wifi.

    • +1

Dont use a router with a sim slot, use a phone & USB tether it to a router that allows it. Using a phone means it wont immediately flag that you are using it in a non-phone device.

Dont abuse the data heavily enough that you draw attention.

  • Still on the 6mths offer.
A few days ago, I received a survey from Felix regarding the speed and pricing. It seems that they're contemplating on a faster plan.

    • +1

hopefully they make current speed unlimited plan cheaper

      • +1

Highly doubt it. It used to be $35 for 20/20 speed and they increased it to $40 not too long ago.

        • One of the questions mentioned $30 for 30mbps. Who knows

  • Can I port out with Optus trial and back in?

    • Sure why not

      • After looking at it more, maybe not because Optus is a new number?
I'm currently with Felix and want to keep the same number hrm.

  • Good deal for overseas roaming.

    • Their international roaming was not great when I tried before

      • doesn't even work for me in New Zealand despite advertised. I should really contact them.

        • Can you receive sms overseas without purchasing roaming?

          • @Brick50: it works for me even though my roaming doesn't

            • @abuch47: Thanks, yes can confirm does work 👍

  • Can a beryl router pick up the iphone hotspot of this, and transfer it to my regular router through ethernet?

    • +1

Your router can probably rebroadcast a hotspot in access point mode, no need for Beryl.

You can also do ethernet tethering from your iPhone. That should be the most reliable/fastest.

      • … or USB tether to a router running OpenWRT, DD-WRT, or AsusWRT-Merlin.

        • Did you find USB tethering to a router and at the same time keep charging the phone a bit tricky?

          • @ja912son: I haven't yet tried it, tbh, but ChatGPT says the router may charge the phone via the same USB connection.

  • I used the Vodafone network 10-12 years ago when it was totally $hit and I vowed never to go back. At this price, I'd consider it for my daughter if it has improved. Does anyone have any comments on the network quality these days?

    • +1

I have corporate fleet Telstra on my work phone and get better reception and speed on my personal Vodafone. But it highly depends on where you are.

    • +1

I just moved from Boost (Telstra Retail) to Felix (Vodafone). And Felix is hands down better in every regard. I’m amazed.

I have a $300 Boost SIM ready to go, but I wish I hadn’t brought it now.

    • +1

Vodafone is often much faster in metro areas then Telstra or Optus but if you travel to places where there is only Telstra then you have no choice obviously. Swap and find out. You can always swap back

  • I'm thinking of cancelling NBN and only using this unlimited SIM in my old phone since I live alone. I have guests sometimes so wondering if the hotspot would pick up signals from G to 1st floor. 20mbps is fine for me.

Also can I just call Spintel and say I don't need internet anymore? Are there any issues if a year later I wanna go back to NBN?

    • +1

You can cancel your NBN and come back a year later, no issues. Worth a try. If it doesn't work for you just go back to how it was before. You'll even get better sign up deals when you rejoin the NBN

      • Thanks. Will order now

    • I'm thinking of cancelling NBN and only using this unlimited SIM in my old phone since I live alone.

Did exactly that, in a household with 2 adults and a kid. Good enough for 1080p streaming, and all of us watching different YouTubes at the same time.

      • +1

Yep only 3mbps is required for a decent youtube video quality these days. Praise modern compression

      • Do you keep the old phone plugged in all the time as a wifi router?

        • Mostly, but not always. It does last for a few hours while hotspotting.

  • With Topcashback, do you get $11/month cashback for the duration of the offer of 4 months? i.e. You pay $16/month & get cashback of $11/month-cost $5/month for 4 months?
    Thanks

    • No, it is a one off cashback

  • Thanks Churna

  • I used to have Vodafone years ago which was terrible and had exorbitant prices every 6 months. Does anyone have any comments on the current network quality?

    • -1

well felix customer service is better than voda thats for sure

  • Why my voda has NO signal at all in Costco Crossroads NSW?
If there is signal I will get this deal….

  • Noob question. With the “25GB $10/M” plan, do we get 25GB each month?

  • I ordered this and I selected a new number, but now I thought when the sim comes next week, I should probably temporarily port over a number that I keep as a spare since it is expiring on Amaysim anyway.

Does the activation process for online orders still allow you to port a number if you selected "new number" at the checkout?

If not, then not really a big deal since I'll just top up $10 on Amaysim, but usually I swap it out and then buy a cheaper sim at Woolworths with some extra credit, but I would have been able to do this another 4 months later.

    • I was able to extend amaysim for an year for free when I chose pay as you go

  • Just signed up for the unlimited plan to try it out. I tried to search the FAQ for ways to turn off auto renewal and looks like one has the "pause" the current subscription to stop auto renewal. When the plan is "paused" can the active plan still be used as normal until expiry?

    • Yes, until the end of your current billing period.

  • Anyone know the date when must this SIM be activated by before the SIM expires?

  • The onboarding experience is really seamless. eSim was activated in afew minutes.

  • Does the billing period start as soon as you sign up or not until the SIM is activated? Was already charged during the sign up but don't actually need to start my port for another week or so.

    • Just like any prepaid mobile service, you pay when your order it, and it starts when you activate it.

      • prepaid mobile service

Thought these plans roll month to month instead of a recharge like other prepaids?

        • Kinda both. It rolls as long as they can auto-debit your account.

        • They'll charge you the amount each month, first month up front then each month after every 30 days from when you activate the SIM for the next 3 months. If you have auto recharge on at the end of the 4 month period, it will charge you wherever the full rate is for month 5 onwards.

I ended up getting a GL Mango pocket modem for $42 at Amazon, and have Felix tethered to it from an old cracked Xiaomi phone. The Mango charges the phone, and is connected to another router via the powerline with an old TP-Link AV2000 I had laying around, and that in turn to yet another router via ethernet cabling in the wall. After all this, I'm still getting 27-28 Mbps, which is more than enough for my needs.

    • +3

is there any risk of charging the phone 24 hours ? I was a bit concerned with fire hazard during winter. thanks.

      • Is there? The Mango only provides 5V≈0.5A anyway.

        • I'm not sure, but it's for my investment property and I'm a bit cautious about leaving it charged all time.
there're mobile battery caused house fire in the news in the past.

  • -5

    4 months? meh

  • Is it possible to have more than 1 service for an account? I can't seem to figure it out

    • +4

      No

  • Regards to the cashback has anyone tried activating after 30 days and still get the cashback? E.g 60 days after purchase?
