Great price on a very good smart lock that launched overseas last year and is listed as "coming soon" by TP-Link Australia.

Prior to this, the cheapest I had seen it including delivery to AU was $260. Retails around $160 USD.

  • My price is coming up as either $163USD or $255AUD

Edit; it was because I was on the US site… but I have $400USD Amazon gift card to use!!

  • 1 year battery life… with wifi? Is this for real?

    • Would like to know too

    "Hey Google," open the door…

    • Think you can only do it via Alexa

      • Also compatible with Google Home.

    • +1

Google assistant only allows you to lock a door, not unlock.

      • Oh. I missed that detail. Luckily there's like 5 other ways to open the door.

        • Use 'Alexa' as per earlier comment.

          • @jv: Unfortunately we're a Google household.

      • Google assistant only allows you to lock a door, not unlock.

        Why?

  • Has anyone used this before? If so please let us know if any feedback. Considering for the front door.

  • +2

Bought it for $275 when it first came out. Worth every penny. Finger-print unlock makes it so convienient. Just wish it has a sensor to only auto-lock when the door is closed.

    • How long does it last between recharges?

      • It says one year on the box.

        • +2

Real life usage might be different

      • +1

Bought it late last year, still haven't charged it yet.

    • You need Home Assistant ! :-)

      • You need Home Assistant !

        NDIS?

      • Does this integrate with Home Assistant at all? Last time I checked there was some limited functionality depending on the exact model.
I'd buy it if so, was kinda waiting for the USB smart locks but they're slow to release and will cost at least double

    • Thanks for this … I would prefer one that you can still close once it is auto-locked.

    • +1

Could you say more about how the auto-lock works in real life? I have an old Samsung lock which works well, but can't imagine some sort of locking of the device when the door is open.

      • +2

There is a set timeout, say 30 secs. If the door is unlocked for 30secs, it will auto-lock the door.

  • But what about installation ? who can install it ? We can by ourselves or not ?

    • If you're pretty handy and you have a hole saw and a chisel you can do it. Instructions are usually pretty good.
Otherwise any decent handy man should be able to do it within an hour.

      • +1

Above is for installing on a door without an existing deadbolt. However I realise that most front doors will already have a dead Bolt. In this case you'll just need to measure up the door and the existing hole to see that they are compatible with the product. You may need to take off the existing deadbolt to do this.

    • Open the manual and scroll to the last page. You need to have either the correct type of deadlock already installed (usually cylindrical shaped), or have a bolt the same style or get out the tools like the other comment suggested, depending on your carpentry skills. There is probably a tool you could 3D print to make it easier to line up bolt holes

    • Very easy install, did it myself, and they have instructional videos as well.

  • Thanks OP. Bought one.
Good timing. Our current Kwikset Bunnys unit has started failing after 5 loyal years of service.

    • Weird coincidence … So is mine. The kwikset button is dying

      • Exactly. Hoping the digital touch pad on this one should be better, plus all the other ways to open.

  • Cheers, replacing the slightly janky Schlage unit - the old Schlage was great, the S1 much less so

  • +1

I bought it last week when it was $198. It arrived in 5 days from a California distribution center to WA. Haven't install it yet but looks good and a bit heavy. Also I couldn't find any other seller for this model in Au.

  • will this one get any trouble with home insurance?

  • Anyone know how heavy the package is?? Got a friend coming from US, and was thinking of using my Amazon US GC to buy it

    • Yeah. Guess you could save another $30.
Shipping should be free for AU Prime members.

  • Wow, from the specs and feedback, sound like the best one and best price too. Big custom battery should can last more than a year for sure, type-c charging is handy, just don't know when can get the second battery. Has backup physical keys, will not lock yourself out when something went wrong. Quiet motor is very welcome. Hope the motor has more power than Lockly so it won't stuck if the pole toching the side. This will be my next lock.

Please don't forget the buy 2 bouns 12% discount, can throws in t shirts, sock, book for free. Got myself a $10 microscope.

    • thanks, Cancelled and reordered with another item.

    • Thanks for the tip leetec. I added some flash cards for $14.74 and that made the total $189.11. The cheapest item I found is this book about Michelangelo to save a few more dollars.

  • Can anyone confirm that this works with Home Assistant?
From what I found online, there is not yet a direct integration with Home Assistant.

  • Can anyone give the depth of the external part of this lock? The specs on the TP-Link website imply it's 60mm deep, which seems implausible to me. Important to know this for checking clearance from a screen door in front of it.

  • My current deadlock is double cylinder - has anyone fit this in a double cylinder spot ?
