Cheapest price so far?

From the reviews, absolutely great monitor for the price. In Valorant I get around 600fps on my 7800x3D. If I had not upgraded my PC recently, I would be buying this now. I'll just wait for the next deal

  • Is going down to 27" worth the 480hz for competitve games like Valo?

    • +3

At a fixed distance from your eyes, 27inch is better than 32 for competitive games IMO. The whole experience is more "focused".

    • +3

Imo if you don't want to go down to 1080p (assuming this isn't 480hz@1080p), then 27" is ideal for 1440p for competitive games, I have no desire to switch to anything bigger or higher res while I still play these sorts of games.

    • 32" monitors are intended for about a 1m sitting distance. At a typical seating distance (50-60 cm), the longer term goal would be something like 21.5" 8K monitors, as absurd as that might seem today.

Nothing. Just sharing my thoughts because there is a minimum text limit

    • Uh everything if you're a gamer.

Its a benchmark not set on this monitor…..

???????? He's talking about being able to make use of the fps his gpu can produce.

    do we really need 480hz?

    • +5

There are all sorts of neat tricks you can start doing at 240hz+ like this CRT beam shader for emulators. Might get interesting in a few years when 1000hz + displays become more common and allow things that fundamentally can't be presented at lower refresh rates to be displayed on screen, and devs get the full fusion range of human vision to play with.

    • Yes for someone whos serious playing competitive games.
for normal gamers, you wont need over 240Hz
I have this monitor and plays fps games. Its amazing monitor

    • Speak for yourself buddy

I think it's a bit cheaper on edu store

  • +2

Glad I don't/can't play competitive games at all.

  • A bit on the small side.

AW2725Q is $1200 (and even cheaper using Dell EDU promo, I got it for $1020) as a 4k 240hz alternative. QD OLED so less bright in HDR but higher pixel density.

  • +1

now THATs a refresh rate damn son

  • I haven't experienced 480hz OLED but I can't even begin to imagine what that would look/feel like. OLED with almost instant pixel response and 480Hz, wow wow wee waa

  • hodl for a 490hz monitor - 480 too low these days

    120hz -> 480hz is actually more of a noticeable upgrade than 60hz -> 120hz.

I went from an AW3225QF (32" 4k240 qd-oled) to one of these panels (27" 1440p480 w-oled, SDC 27X1QE) due to black level issues / bad contrast ratio with small amounts of ambient light.

The sharpness decrease is noticable - but certainly worth it for the much improved visual quality over qd-oled, no more purple haze on dark areas. Side benefit is that the screen is also much clearer in motion.

    • and - have you managed to get to pro level in any esport titles?

      • +3

I'm currently top 400 in Valorant (was top 1000 in CS) and have recently played at a few offline tier 3-4 events against salaried pro teams.

Not good enough to compete in the big major tournaments or make it my job though.

      • I'm a plat peasant but would still get this monitor just for clear motion

  • Got it down to $1087.32 with a corporate discount. Thanks OP.

    • any chance you or your coworkers have another coupon? :(
