This is a great starter drone, I have one myself. There are reports of them randomly flying away and crashing though, check out reddit.com/r/djineo.

    • Where are you allowed to use these sort of drones? I’ve always wanted a drone but I figured that most of the places I’d want to use it would not be allowed because of public property or whatever

      • +1

For me, mainly in state forests or beaches (when there's nobody around). The DJI software won't actually let you launch the drone if you're in a prohibited area. Other than that, it's just a matter of using common sense and not bothering anyone. Official rules can be found on drones.gov.au.

      • -2

Actually you are most certainly not allowed to fly in private property (unless owner says yes). Most public property should be fine (park, beach, national park etc).

        • not really, many local park forbid drones (example, centential park in sydney) and most beach, well you cant fly near people so it has to be empty remote beaches

        • check again the rules for national parks

  • Is it a new tello?

    • +1

Much much better than the tello. Not going to withstand strong wind but I did fly it on the beach with decent sea breeze and it was okay and can be controlled with no issues. In the same condition, the tello would just be gone the moment you fly it.

  • Whats the best way to control this drone? Can you get a remote with it?

  • +2

The fpv combo also available for 664$ in the dji ebay store

    • this is lowest price ever. Great deal

    • The only combo thats worth it when it comes to the Neo!

  • if you can have one, will you get Neo or Mini 2 ? (both second hand, cant afford to get higher up model).
i like the active tracking of neo but afraid it is too beginner - i dont want to upgrade too soon

    • +2

Depends on what you plan to use it for and in what conditions. For a drone that can do active tracking and for vlogging, neo is super easy to use. But for more scenery/panoramic footage, I would lean more towards the Mni range and dare I say save up a bit more to get at least Mini 3 instead of the 2.

Just putting it out there as well that the neo is quite loud and has a 'whiney' noise due to its smaller propellers and will attract attention/disturb people compared to the mini.

      • thanks. wow and i thought my mini 2 is loud already!

        • +1

Mini 2 has active tracking if you use Litchi instead of the dji app.

          • @Spendmore: Wow… but….the app is $44…

            • @McMaferMur: Yeah a lot cheaper than buying a 3 Pro though. It does a lot more than ative tracking too like plotting in a flight plan and autonomous flight.

              • @Spendmore: Ok. Hmm i have $11 in google rewards money
                Maybe should bite.

                • @McMaferMur: Have a read up on what it can do, I think its a fair price considering the development that has gone into it.

                  • @Spendmore: I se. Seems mini 2 is right for me i like hacking and modding stuffs from iphone 3gs jailbroken to unpatched switch.

                    • @McMaferMur: You will love litchi then. You can get a plug in for google earth and map out a flight plan with camera focal points, then upload it into the mini and hit start mission. It then follows the route taking photos or video and lands where it started, you can pretty much walk off and leave it do its thing however I like to keep an eye on it.

                      • @Spendmore: omg just like in the future with AI, Robots and Eyes on the sky checking human

                        • @McMaferMur: Haha erm yeah I try to avoid filming humans Lol. What you can do is take multiple shots of your home and create a 3D image, check property fence lines or fire breaks etc.

                          • @Spendmore: What you can do is take multiple shots of your home and create a 3D image,
inside or outside or both? more info please how and what software to use - cheers !

                            • @McMaferMur: I have only done outside, I uploaded the photos to the polycam android app and it generates the 3D image.

  • Is a controller needed or is smartphone fine?
    Cheers

    • I only ever use my phone to control the Neo, but be aware that it's limited to 30m vertical and 50m horizontal distance, and has no return to home function.

This is fine for my use (mainly for real-time emergency situations - eg: bush fires, hiking incident etc), but may not work for everyone.

  • I already have a mini 2 se fly more. Would the remote and batteries work with this? Is there a good reason to get this in addition? I feel that it may be more rugged and the follow me function would be good.

    • Doubt battery will.

    • @StopSpending If you've got the RC-N1 controller like the Mini 2, then it won't be compatible.

I actually thought if that too, buying the basic drone only and using my Mini 2 controller, but unfortunately not.

  • I have the Mini 2 (not the lower spec SE) and was thinking of grabbing this for the simplicity of hand launching anywhere and ease of use when travelling.

.. but I'm wondering if this will be a downgrade even though the Mini 2 is years older?

    • I asked the same above…

      • @McMaferMur If portability for overseas travelling isn't a major consideration for you, I'd probably rather get the Mini 2 (not Mini 2 SE) if I were you.

For straight flying and spec wise, the Mini 2 wins. You've got the 3-axis gimbal, stronger flight in wind, external memory card slot, longer battery and I reckon you'll get a longer distance with it.

However, for me, the only reason I'm considering the Neo is for the portability when travelling and the ability to easily hand take off/land without the need to find a clear area with no people likely to run into it. I'm just hoping the Neo quality is good enough as a substitute for bringing my mini 2.

        • People say neo camera is worse. Maybe alittle

    • +1

wind tolerance is low and noise is annoying af.

  • Got fly more bundle at goodguys. Know cheaper on eBay but couldn't wait :). Fun little thing. Had a few flights inside house. No issues. Followed subject and ignored kids or others walking past. Paid $459. Reason is the batteries and controller so can go further as heard it can lose wifi quite easily and fly off. I did pay dji care 2 years for $52 in case accident or lose it. Had mavic many years ago. This feels much safer with kids around. Bit noisy and just obstacle avoidance under. Not much need though for what I use it for.
